2016-2017 Medical College of Georgia Application Thread

Omg. I was complete 7/20 and the anxiety just kicked in...

As soon as I saw that people had gotten II's I felt the same way and immediately went into panic mode thinking about how crappy it would be not to get accepted anywhere! EVEN SO...It's still the beginning of September and we have a long way to go!!! Plenty of interviews to be had.

Can anyone who's already had an interview here this year comment on how it went?

Are MCG decisions sent via email and postal mail, or just via one or the other?

I think they primarily correspond with applicants through email. The only time I've heard of admissions calling anyone is to let a select few know that they were accepted into the program.

By "select few" do you mean applicants from a very small applicant pool (e.g. MD/PhD applicants)?

Sorry, I guess the word "select" wasn't the right word to use. From what I've heard it was kind of random like maybe the caller was set up to call whoever was next in line for acceptance on a particular day or something like that.

Ah, understood. Thanks!

Any tips from those that have interviewed so far?

Any tips from those that have interviewed so far?

I interviewed on Monday and had a great time! My two interviewers were very warm and welcoming, and I felt that they took a genuine interest in my experiences. I was less nervous than I was for a practice interview.

My interviewers asked a couple standard questions about me and my experiences. They didn't make it feel like an evaluation at all.

Just be the pleasant person you are and you will be fine!

I was complete 7/19 and they just now got around telling me that my AP chem credit is no longer accepted there. So now I'm short a chem lecture and lab, and I graduate in December. The pre-med office at my school didn't even know about this change in policy until last Friday. So now after my graduation I get to go retake freshman chemistry at a community college, because that makes me a more qualified applicant.
Just a heads up for anyone that tested out of the full year of freshman chem.

That totally blows. I really don't think there's a good reason for not accepting AP credits, especially when every top ten seems to.

I'm with ya there! Hard not to wonder what is happening when those complete after you get a II before you.. of course luckily, there are other explanations for it besides the adcoms seeing your application and going "hmm.. nah."

Anyone know how receptive the school is to pre-II application updates?

Can we expect about the same as last year in terms of no one hearing back on RD acceptances until mid-November?

My advice would be to sift through the MCG Application Threads from the previous few years to see if there is any discernible pattern regarding RDP decision renderings. I was an EDP applicant this year, and by looking over the MCG App Threads from 2010-2011 through 2015-2016, a pattern of EDP decisions emerged such that it was evident that EDP decisions were generally rendered on the Friday following the second Thursday in September, provided that that Friday did not fall on September 11. This turned out not to be the case this cycle, as my EDP acceptance arrived on the Friday following the third Thursday of September. Still the pattern proved somewhat usefully predictive. I expect that similar patterns regarding RDP decisions will be evident in the threads for the MCG application cycles of previous years.

Best of luck!

As far as I am aware, the only application updates MCG could receive prior to an applicant receiving his/her secondary would be anything updated through AMCAS (much of which is restricted following AMCAS submission). Application updates for MCG are uploaded to a special section of the school's secondary.

I submitted my secondary on 9/23. All of my LOR's are green check marked as of 9/22. If I am lucky enough to get an interview, will I be notified via email? Does checking the "status" in the secondary give any other indications I'll be getting an interview?

I got my interview invite via email. I don't believe there was any indication in my status tab beforehand, just green checkmarks showing they had received everything. Good luck!

Hey, did anyone else get an email from MCG about clarification of admissions requirements? I don't know if it is just a mass email they sent or if they are specifically telling me that I might have some issues with my prerequisites.
I think it's sent to everyone

That email made me heartbroken. Dying waiting for II 🙁(
