Yet another wait-list! Grrr.

During my interview day, Dr. Witzburg told us that their wait-list was very small, and that it was "highly likely" (I wrote that quote down on my notes with not one but two underlines!) that people wait-listed would eventually be accepted.

I guess that's no longer the case... boo 🙁

Anyway, congratulations to those who were accepted!

Just accepted via email.

To those on the waitlist - I've always thought BU has an unusually high number of SDN posters. Maybe it's just because so many people apply that so many are on here, or maybe the waitlist situation isn't that bad, it's just that BU is overrepresented here. Good luck! :luck::luck:

Waitlisted here at well. I'm also wondering what their "small group" of waitlisted applicants means. It doesn't seem like the group is going go be small...🙄

BU isn't particularly honest year after year regarding the size of the waitlist. It's apparently VERY large. I even hear that that no one is rejected for the March decisions. Every year, Witzburg gives his famous speech about hating wait lists and wanting to keep them small so that there's a reasonable chance that everyone on it will eventually get an acceptance. But come the end of March, everyone not accepted is waitlisted.....It was that way last year and the year before as well.

The waitlist could still definitely move, but for the past two years, it hasn't moved at all...

btw, I was waitlisted by BU last year....

LORD IN HEAVEN

Just got my acceptance email. And I really could not be happier!

Interviewed 2/11 with Dr. Stone and he didn't call. Good luck to everyone still waiting! Sending my good karma! :luck:

Accepted via phone call from interviewer, but gonna have to decline (for Cornell). I'm sure there's a waitlister out there who would be happy to take my spot. Congrats to everyone and good luck! CLASS of 2013 BABY! 😀

So I haven't gotten an acceptance letter, but I just got an email congratulating me on my acceptance and asking me to fill out this history and physical and return it.. Strange. Guess I'm in.

I didn't get an acceptance email either, just the note from health services saying congratulations and get a physical before matriculation...I'll take it though! I'm so glad the wait is over!

I'm in (got the physical request email and no phone call)! 😱

Congrats to everyone accepted! I'm sorry to hear the waitlist is so huge--but don't give up if BU's where you want to be!! At this point, I'm probably going to withdrawal if the financial aid is low.

I don't really recall what Dean Witzburg said on the interview day...but does anyone know if they give need (or merit) based scholarships? Or do they just give loans?

My coworker got off the waitlist at BU (a few years ago) in late July, so there may be a little hope for some of us waitlisters!

Ugh, waitlisted... I thought I might get used to news of more waiting, but that just isn't the case. Congrats to everyone who has been accepted!!

Accepted!!!!! Woooooooooot!!!!! Just checked my mail....can't believe it!!!

Waitlisted as well. Congrats to those accepted!

Does anyone know if the GMS students are put on a separate waitlist? And if so, does anyone know if it tends to move more or less than the wait list for the general applicant pool?

Keeping my finger crossed.:xf:

Also, do they just wait list all interviewees, or do they actually send rejections at this point as well?

got in! I got the health history & physical email too, and no formal "acceptance" letter otherwise. maybe it'll be in the mail at home (I live in Somerville, MA so the mail shouldn't take too long to get from Boston)

So counting up the number of people who have posted a waitlisted status on this forum (including myself), we are already at 17! I just can't believe that they would keep all of the March people plus the first rounders hanging on. I talked with my advisor (at BU and on adcom) and he said that the waitlist has a good chance of moving quite a bit this year due to the expense of the program. Then I ran into my "insider" friend in GMS and she said that the word is the list is not going to budge much at all (<5). I don't know who to believe and I am seriously crushed. If this waitlist doesn't move, I am going to have to leave my husband and home to go to another school!! Why would they tell us the waitlist is small and then put everyone on it?!?!? Don't they realize the degree to which they are playing with people's lives?!?

Well, that's med school admissions for you...where the med school holds ALL the cards, and the applicant can only win on the school's whim. Too bad it's not like grad school admissions, where the school pays for the applicant's travel fees and lodging, so the school actually has to pay attention to take care of who it interviews because of the bigger investment.

Oh, and I should mention that I was waitlisted too, just to add it to your tally 🙄

OK, here goes some positive speculation.

Last cycle too many accepted students came to BU and my class is over-enrolled by about a dozen students. So they took ZERO waitlisters last cycle.

They probably do NOT want that to happen again, which would lead them to be a bit stingy with outright acceptances and plan to go to the waitlist this year.

I have NO inside info, but this would explain why you are seeing so many waitlists and so few acceptances on SDN so far.

BTW, congrats to all acceptees!! and good luck to waitlisters!

Thanks fizzle, you're number 18 🙂 and I sure hope you are right slowbutsteady...as you can I am still in the emotional reaction phase of being waitlisted :/ I am really happy for those excepted too! Just wish I could join you! Time to switch to positive energy...almost.

I have not heard anything from admission office or the health services and my interviewer said that he hasn't gotten the email list for ppl that got accepted.
No waitlist either. Am i rejected?

This is good to know; thanks!

I wish they could have just been a little more upfront about how the wait-list situation works... I'm on several already, and I really do understand that their movement (or lack thereof) is highly dependent upon what accepted applicants do, and that it varies from year to year. Hearing that same explanation from BU wouldn't have particularly surprised or bothered me.

But now, having heard the whole song and dance about how the wait-list is going to be super-tiny and almost everyone is likely to get off it, I don't see why we couldn't have gotten a more realistic assessment of the wait-list situation when we interviewed.

Withdrew from wait list. Good luck all!

For some of my waitlists last year (5 ugh) SDNers made a list of all of them by user name and then celebrated when someone was accepted off it.

It was very exciting and informative. You guys might want to do that. Where is Shemarty when you need her? Oh, I know, deciding between Yale, UCSF, etc.

I think that is a great idea and I would love to be a part of it! Are those of you who posted a waitlisted status comfortable being on such a list? If so, I would like to start one just so we have some semblance of an idea of what's going on! Thanks slowbutsteady! Here it is: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=615379

Has anyone been rejected post-interview?

# 21 on the waitlist
btw lets do it gr8fulMD! I mean it could only help at this point eh?

I would guess that given the economic environment an expensive school like BU doesn't look quite as good compared to a state school this year. Consequently, I would wager that the waitlist is going to move more than normal this year.

Another waitlist here.

I remember Dean Witzburg telling us that they would have a larger group on the waitlist this year. More movement was expected from the list this year due to financial aide issues.

Accepted but I'll be withdrawing. Good luck everyone!

so no one got rejected?
ur status page should be updated

Screw it, I'll break the ice. I got rejected.

Wonder when they are going to ask for a deposit?

accepted, but i am withdrawing, so all you waitlisters can get in. good luck guys.

Thanks for letting us know! It is a small shred of hope. Best of luck in all your future endeavors! That goes for everyone who has contributed to the information shared on this thread as well. Hearing from others has relieved so much of the anxiety that had built up from months of silence...at least for me. Thank you!

Accepted but withdrawing as well--that's at least 2 for you guys then. Good luck!!!

waitlisted as well. i totally remember them saying the list was going to be small, but that seems false.

do people know when we are expected to hear? the june-aug note in the wait list email was vague.

hey guys, how is bu's matchlist for residency? i really liked the school and am heavily leaning towards attending but am trying to justify how much money it costs to attend... what are some other schools that u guys are choosing bu over? i did get into some great schools (like duke, brown) but really like the boston area and hoping that i wont later regret anything in terms of residency matchign etc. thanks!

you mean 2nd look day? It's on May 2nd, and I'm coming for sure 🙂

Any other ANGRY/disappointed GMSers out there? I was rejected after being deferred in Jan, interviewed in November. I honestly thought I had a great shot of going to BU, with a 4.0 gpa in the program, 34 MCAT, and being from MA...my interviewer even asked me why I wasn't already in med school. Oh well, I guess thats how the **** hits the fan.

hey all 🙂

does anyone know when BU will be giving out more information regarding the open house? it's in a month... so excited! 😀
