I don't know when the exact cutoff is to be considered for the December acceptances. The adcomm meeting to select the first round of acceptances will be on December 2. So it's possible that you might get considered at that meeting with a December 1 interview, but I really don't know. I can tell you that in the past, CCLCM has had adcomm meetings every other Thursday. The people who interviewed on one of the Thursdays when the adcomm met got their apps reviewed the same day of their interview while they were downstairs hearing the financial aid talk! If that practice continues, you really might come up for review on the 2nd. But I can't make any promises. Maybe ask at your interview day.
In case anyone else is burning to know, the second adcomm meeting to select the February acceptees will be held on February 17.
No, we interviewed about 250 students last year, and we'll be interviewing around the same number this year. So there are more apps coming in, but no change in the number of interviews offered. The good thing is that if you get invited to the interview, you've already made it through the biggest cut. Last year there were about 1400 completed apps. No one really knows how many there will be this year. The number of apps has been rising every year since the school started, and there may be a bigger jump this year because of the free tuition and because the first class is graduating and we will now have a CCLCM match list.
The adcomms at the two programs are quasi-independent. They talk to each other, but they don't necessarily choose to invite the same students. So for those people who apply to both programs, some get invited to both, some get invited to CCLCM but not the UP, and some get invited to the UP and not to CCLCM. Whether you applied to the UP or not has no bearing on whether you'll be invited to interview by CCLCM (or vice versa). Since the UP doesn't have a research requirement like CCLCM does, the applicant populations overlap some, but not all the way. (It's like one of those Venn diagrams. 😛 )
I can't tell you if fewer people will be accepted or not post-interview. There will be 32 people selected initially in Dec. and Feb. like I explained above, and then more people will get selected as spots open up due to withdrawals. In other words, CCLCM will not be over-accepting like many schools do. The problem is that there is no way to gauge how many withdrawals we are going to have, and there really isn't room for a 33rd student, let alone more, if the adcomm guesses wrong about how many will withdraw!
Good luck with your apps and interviews. 🙂
