I did get it today.

It was good news! 😀

Congrats! I'm also glad to hear acceptances are still going out.

I'm getting extremely nervous for my interview! 😱 I hope it's not too stressful.

Thanks all! That was a very pleasant surprise!

I'm getting extremely nervous for my interview! 😱 I hope it's not too stressful.

Don't be! My interviewers were very kind and only wanted to get to know me better, no trick questions at all. My faculty interviewer was writing so much that I almost considered pausing at times to let her catch up! 🙂

hey even better ahah! Congrats! Are you gonna go there?

I'm in the same situation as MJisKING, so I will have to think long and hard about this. Will you be at Second Look? I'll definitely be there.

Good luck to all of those still waiting on decisions!

Guess I'm due for a later batch. 🙁. Not good.....

I'm posting solely because I have a Doug icon, and you have a Judy icon -- cool! 😛

And yeah, I'm in the same predicament as you two, looks like. Interviewed 2/24.

haha!! I'm totally beaming (old school nickeledeon shows are very therapeutic for me, especially during these nerve wrecking times). Anyway, what an awesome coincidence.

But hey, did they tell you when to expect the news? Or....did you just leave afterwards and forget to get any relevant information like me?

I think they said something to the effect of "we'll let you know when we know." Has anyone else been accepted from this most recent batch/are they done sending letters from this one?

so at this point i guess we assume no news is bad news? based on last year's thread it seems like many people didn't hear back until mid may... oh well

My friend also got an acceptance letter this batch.

So it looks like the pattern is if you have "letter sent" in the first part of the month, it's most likely good news and if it's towards the end of the month, it's waitlist, etc. Kind of good to know what to expect, I guess.

As in mid-May acceptances? I thought the deadline to withdraw from all but one was May 15th?

so i called earlier this week asking about the waitlist movement, and the answer i received was 50%. i asked again if it was "up to 50%" and the answer again was "we take about 50%"...

now, while i would LOVE for this to be true and don't want to be a pessimist, this seems awfully high when compared to the past... is this year any different? did anyone else get the same reply?

It does seem high but...the difficulty is that people withdraw from the waitlist (and at least at UCSF, according to the dean, the school doesn't take that into account those withdraws when working out acceptance numbers). So I'm not sure if the school gets a good idea of a percentage

Lets just believe 50%!

50% would be amazing! But it seems too high, I think people got other answers if you look back a few pages

I need some help. I interviewed in late-ish March and haven't received any decisions yet. I am thinking of going abroad for 6 weeks this summer (mid June to end of July), where it's not as convenient for me to receive postal mail and access Internet and printing. So I am trying to work out different scenarios, just in case I don't get rejected, gasp:

If I receive a waitlist from UCLA, do you guys think I would need to stay in the U.S. for the summer? How do people accept to be on the waitlist? Do they get a form in the mail that they have to sign and return?

If I am accepted or put on hold, is it essential that I stay in the U.S. for the summer in case I have to take care of stuff?

Thanks bunches.

Yikes. This definitely depends on how you like to handle things, but if it was me, I wouldn't leave the country until I had a pretty good idea of what was happening. The good thing here is that you interviewed some time in the second half of March, so you will probably be notified in May. Would that leave you enough time decide about this trip?

All accepted students have to send in an acceptance letter, and I'm assuming that they would call to notify those they're taking off the WL to save time. If you're abroad, these steps could be tricky, but not entirely impossible (depending on where you are and what you're doing).

And yes, if you're accepted, you'll have to get cleared health wise, send in transcripts, apply for housing, and who knows what else. Do you think you'll be able to do these things abroad?

you can always have the mail sent to your parents' house or to someone you trust.....just change it on AMCAS and let UCLA know. Have them keep you updated, etc.

Even if I do have the mail sent to my parents, I still would have to be physically present to sign some forms (e.g. acceptance of offer, health forms, whatnot), wouldn't I? Or are all submissions done online nowadays?

I have to decide on the trip ASAP. Sigh. Thanks for your responses, though. Anyone else want to chime in? I would appreciate it.

It seems like it's possible to designate someone to speak for you so if you were out of the country or otherwise unavailable, they could find out decisions and maybe sign stuff for you. Otherwise, you could always just have your parents sign the forms...I mean, unless you contest it, most likely no one will ever know or care.

👍

I'm going on a trip for the month of June and most of July. And if anything happens, I'll just have my parents sign the forms.

The data below is for 2008 entering class from February 15th acceptance batch on forward:

Letter Sent 2/15: 10 SDNers reported an acceptance. Their interview dates ranged from Novebmer 15th to February 8th.
Letter Sent 3/15: 7 SDNers reported an acceptance. Their interview dates ranged from Novebmer 15th to March 7th.
Letter Sent 3/18: 40 SDNers reported a waitlist or a hold.
Letter sent 4/10: 1 SDNer reported an acceptance. She interviewed in mid November.
Letter sent 4/16: 2 SDNers reported a waitlist.
Letter Sent 05/09: 10 SDNers reported a waitlist or a hold. 1 SNDer reported an acceptance.
Letter Sent 05/12: 1 SNDer reported a waitlist. Seh was accepted a month later.
Letter Sent 05/27: 1 SDNer reported an acceptance. He interviewed in early April.

Between May 15th and June 15th 9 SDNers reported an acceptance off the waitlist.

The info above is from last year's UCLA thread.

I'll try to make a summary for this cycle when I get a chance but basically it's not looking good for those of us who interviewed late (february onward) and hasn't heard anything yet.

if your parents can sign the forms and call you about any questions related to them then I doubt UCLA will ever know the difference. There's an accepted student checklist with alot of stuff that can be done over the internet too.

If you want to be extra careful just send UCLA a letter of attorney and explain to them your situation.

Wow, thanks for doing this, MoonUnitZappa! As grim as this looks, it's still better to know than to be kept in the dark [checking your status obsessively].

sorry for intruding but im planning application for the next cycle and i cant find this information on the website or this thread - what is UCLA's LOR policy? what letters do they want, how many, etc.

thanks

correct me if i am wrong, i believe it's 3 letters with at least two from science profs and a maximum of 5.

btw, you can send more than 5 if you want I think. for schools like UCSF, UCSD, etc they keep telling us to send 5 but I know plenty of people who sent more and I actually asked UCSF's office later if I could've sent more and they said yes. Anyways good luck!

wow that is an epic post

people in next years cycle will greatly appreciate that info

If you keep updating that post until the end of the season, I can link it to the 1st page of the UCLA thread, so its easier to find in the future!

My guess is that people who were accepted on 03/12 either applied as disadvantaged or were deemed as such by the adcom. So there could be back to back acceptance batches, one of which is for disadvantaged only.

Wow... look at how many of us are on the waitlist. I thought I had a chance but after seeing that amazing list, I have just given up all hope. Haha, I met some of you waitlisters at UCSD's second look.

Silverlining and I were trying to figure out who you were at UCSD's 2nd look!

What's the difference between "waitlist" and "hold"?

I want to know which one I should be hoping for.

Waitlist is better. They go to waitlist first then if everyone on waitlist is accepted/withdraws they go to hold people.

Technically you are correct, but in actuality hold=rejection.

Hey! Can someone help me out? I'm currently on UCLA's waitlist and I need their email to send them some updates. I'm currently overseas and will be here for awhile so I don't have anything with me.

O man. So many ppl at UCSD's 2nd look who I talked to were waitlisted at UCSF or UCLA.

Would it be better to email in some updates like DaiCa is doing or snail mail them in? I also plan on sending a letter of intent along with this update.

edit: NM, just called and the lady told me to snail-mail it all in.

does anyone know when they start revieiwng waitlisted people again and who receives the files? the dean of admissions?

any news from those waiting for an initial decision? I wonder if we will get a response before may 15th...
