There were all instate in my group also, and they told us we will "hear something before March 15th". They made no assurances that anyone would hear in October. They said you might, but you might not.

Interesting that they would say different things on different days.

That is strange. I wonder how they will select who they are going to invite in october. Only the guys with 38/3.8+ with a record of saving baby whales in the Bering Sea in the dead of winter?

I am so nervous right now. I think my interview went well. But I"m not sure that my interviewers agreed with all of my positions on issues. They were smiling and acting very interested towards the end and our interview ran a little longer than alloted. Hoping that is a good sign. I loved this school.

I know, I'm so nervous. I am trying to tell myself I won't hear until March but a little part of me is holding out hope for sometime in the near future.

Man how great would that be?!

Bump.. anything in the mail today?

I called and it sounded like it might take awhile. Anyone else know?

I called UofI also. They didn't give me a clear answer. Last year the earliest response was Oct18th via snail mail. Its been almost one month since my interview. HOpefully there will be good news coming soon. Too bad that UofI's admissions process is so vague/opaque. I really hate being strung along.

For how fast he rest of their process is, it's weird they are slow with their rolling acceptances. I got my interview invite 3 days after submitting my secondary and the interview itself was 10 days later. I was really surprised by that.

Yeah I'm sitting here waiting anxiously as well. Please post as soon as you all hear and I will do the same.

I hope we all hear very soon!!!

They give out interviews to applicants who haven't submitted their secondaries yet, so I don't know if the three days gives an accurate impression. Even at my interview, they told us to make sure to submit our secondary essays if we hadn't done so already.

I am anxious as well... but I tell myself that it proabably wont be until end of next week when they send out acceptances. I also tell myself that I should expect to find out in march but I dont belive myself.

Please stop commenting on this thread, it makes me think someone got accepted 😉 Good luck everyone, hopefully we will hear soon.

Just accepted by email.

No, actually I am full of ****. 😛 Still waiting semi-anxiously.

Good luck to those of you awaiting acceptances. Quick question about Iowa's secondary:

Carver requires one year of general biology and a semester of advanced biology. I have only taken one semester of general biology. The rest of my biology credits meet their advanced biology criteria, yet I can only list one advanced bio course! What should I do? Should I just list one of the advanced bio courses as a general bio course? Also, does Human Anatomy count as advanced bio or general bio? The secondary does not specify this. Thanks for the help.

Anatomy is advanced bio, general bio would be bio 1 & bio 2 & labs. I'd call the school to see if they want a written request for an exception to their policy or if completing several advanced bio courses would satisfy their basic bio requirement.

Are any OOS applicants able to comment on timing between completion of secondaries & interview invites? It's been just over a month & per the school there should not be a problem w/my stats 3.7+, 10+ per section MCAT) thanks!

I'm OOS and it was 3 days for me but it may just depend on when your amcas was verified.. It was a month from that point for me but they might be swamped right now.

How do they notify you if you've been granted an interview? (electronic or USPS correspondence?)

I interviewed pretty early and I'm beginning to lose my mind. And to think we possibly have five months left until we'll hear...

I called last week and they said no decisions had been made. I asked if they knew when they would be made and the lady said "I know but I cannot tell you."

Someone else should call, we can rotate (and try to keep our sanity).

I just called the admissions office to clarify and they said they email to notify accepted applicants the same day they mail the acceptance packet.

Too bad... no email for me today.

got the acceptance e-mail this afternoon. so happy to have one under my belt!

Congrats everyone! Iowa is a great school👍

This thread now makes me sad. No email.

Yippie!!!! I just got an email. I'm gonna be a doctor!! Congrats to everyone who got the email and to those guys who didn't, just keep your hopes up we have a long ways to go!!

Hey does anyone know if Iowa actually notifies you that you are in the hold pool or do you just assume if you have not heard anything in a reasonable amount of time? I interviewed on Sept. 26th and my application was complete before that.

They don't let you know if you've been put on hold. I would give it a few days or weeks and then call them. They'll tell you whether or not they've made a decision and whether or not you're in the hold pool.

Accepted yesterday as well. How many of you that have been accepted are in-staters?

congrats to everybody. When did the accepted people interview??

I'm in-state/I go to Iowa right now and I interviewed on September 26th

fyi - this is to share timing info for anyone further back in the process than those above -- I'm OOS, anticipate an interview unless my app completion date precludes it (given feedback from the adcomm last spring on my app package) was complete (2ndary) around sept 18th or so, + no word on interview yet.

I'm also OOS, was complete on 8/15, and have yet to hear anything. I'm a reapplicant and interviewed at Carver last year. Seems to be a fickle process...

I had to harass them about downloading my LOR's for a couple of weeks. I sent everything in August, but the LOR error pushed my completion back to 10/2. I'm OOS btw.

OOS and 2nd-ary complete 10/17.....

no interview yet.

I truly don't understand their process either. I'm OOS and was offered an interview before they even had my LOR's, with very average stats. They have been submitted, but not downloaded as of yet. I guess I'll remind them at the interview?? (politely and professionally, of course 😉

Seems like the further into this process I get, the more it is just random luck with your app being at the right place at the right time with the right set of eyes looking at it. Good luck to everyone!!

It really does seem random, I don't think it is but it definitely does play some part in many schools decisions.

thanks to the other non-interviewees above who responded! My take earlier this year was that the process was not random, given specific feedback and steps recommended by a number of schools, including Carver, regarding how to make my app highly competitive. Given all steps were completed, if I miss the cut this year I'll go back to agreeing with others who feel that the process IS random.

fyi again - things that Carver told me this past spring, related to OOS applicants, is that one needs 10+ per section MCAT score (this may be for a "guaranteed" interview, per other postings some OOS may be interviewed below this cutoff). They also mentioned that seeking feedback would be noted on the file & help a reapplicant in their chances. Time will tell, congrats to those accepted already.

This 10+ per section rule for OOS applicants to interview seems sketchy. Why would the school send out secondaries without this as a warning or even extend a secondary at all? Was this rule stated by a person from admissions or just speculation? Being OOS with a <30 mcat and having submitted my secondary, I am curious about this. I have lived in Iowa and have immediate relatives who have graduated from Carver. Does that waive the 10+ OOS rule?

This applies to automatic interviews. I had below a 10 one 2 of 3 sections last year and received an interview (I'm OOS, btw). I hope this helps...

Thanks! Sorry if that had been stated earlier. I guess I had missed it.

crap

I spoke with the school. Automatic interview cutoffs have increased, they are now 10+ per mcat section and 3.8+ gpa for 2009 entry year for OOS applicants.

This is likely why some of us have not heard back for some weeks; we're no longer in the "automatic interview" pile, but rather the look at applicants who are near the cutoffs" pile.

Darn! I am so close to those cutoffs! Well, if you don't have the numbers and get an interview, at least you know there is something about your application that is appealing. On with the hopeful waiting....

Anyone interview 10/27 and hear anything? How about anyone know when/how often the adcom meets to make their decisions? Thanks.

Admissions office told me adcom meets every 2 weeks or so. The last time they met was 10/21 (going by the last time any SDNers got accepted), so next round of acceptances should be soon.
