Had my interview on the 21st.
The day was very easy and relaxed. Morning presentations were a little long, especially the financial aid (seems more pertinent once you are actually accepted).

The facilities are very impressive, CBL was interesting and led by a real nice 4th year, interview was stress-free and went by very quickly.

Also, they said in the morning that rolling admissions is pretty much over and now every one else will go into the final pool if accepted. Everyone will find out March 15th.

Nice to know that I beat the end of rolling admissions.. good luck with waiting for your final decision!!

On the 15th??? That's a Sunday...ah, either way....I hate having to wait!

Speaking of which... haven't gotten the acceptance packets yet (my parents said they got 2 large envelopes on Sat. from Iowa, I assume those are it- we'll see when I get it in a few days) but does anyone know the details for Iowa's Second Look/Get Acquainted day? I.e. will they be helping with expenses at all? Definitely looking forward to coming back.

Got an email today saying I was in the final pool. It is my understanding that the committee chooses to either look at a file initially or defer it to the final pool. So does this means that my file has not been reviewed yet and they will be looking at it for the first time post-interview in the next couple weeks? I interviewed back in Sept and am out of state...

No. The way Iowa does their selection process is they look at you first to determine whether or not you will be accepted initially off of rolling admissions. If you are not accepted initially off of rolling admissions then your file gets put into the final admissions pool which is looked at in March to fill the rest of the spots they have in their class. You should hear about a final decision around March 15th.

I, too received the email saying that "We are writing to inform you that the Admissions Committee has completed the Rolling Phase and will be reading your application as part of their review in the Final Pool". What, it means that they did not read it before? Means that the read it and placed me in the final pool? At this stage the admissions office already rejected people?

What Herky said. Also, Herky is one hell of a name for a mascot.. what's the origin/meaning behind that anyway? Is it supposed to be short for Hercules or something?

got the final pool email today too. hopefully there's still a chance to get in. i really enjoyed the interview day..unlike some other schools lol. i'm not sure what the odds are once you're in the final pool. anybody know anything more about it?

Yeah, I'm in the final pool, as well. This is the 2nd year that I have applied... Should I have my hopes up?

Withdrew to open up another spot for everyone else. Good luck!

I dont think they will be paying for travel or rooms....which sucks

Damn. That does suck. At least the weather will be much better then. I still want to go because classes weren't in session yet the week I interviewed. I'll probably still spend the money to go unless they give me squat for financial aid.

What's in the acceptance packets anyway? My parents sent it over to me on Monday, and I don't expect to get it till tomorrow or Thursday and I'm wondering what to expect.

Correct, Herky is the er...Hawk. And yeah, I guess it was originally thought of as a reference to Hercules. Here's the wikipedia article I found the info from. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herky_the_Hawk

Just rec'd this note in the past few days:

We are writing to inform you that the Admissions Committee has completed the Rolling Phase and will be reading your application as part of their review in the Final Pool. This review will take approximately 8 weeks; therefore, decisions will be mailed after the review is completed and no later than March 30, 2009. These decisions are final and will be sent by US mail. We will not give out decisions over the phone or by e-mail.

C'est La Vie!

Were you IS or OOS? Guessing by your name, IS, but your MD profile says MN, so I thought I'd ask!

I go to Iowa State but am originally from MN. I initially built quite a bit of anonymity into my Mdapps but decided it would be more useful for other applicants to put my true GPA, MCAT, home state, college, activities...

I did love University of Iowa though, even though I felt dirty the whole time I was there 😎

So do you claim residency for Iowa or not? I'm just wondering if you opened up an IS or OOS slot 😀😀😀

It's been too long since anyone posted here.

Who's looking forward to waiting more than another month?

Anyone with me?

I am definitely waiting for the Get Acquainted day in April... anyone else planning on going? Perhaps we can get something set up for Friday night or Sunday or something like that.. especially for the OOS people.

Like many, still waiting. Somebody correct me if I am wrong. Right now they are reviewing our files in order to do three things: accept, wait list or reject, this sounds right? Also, some people were rejected in January?

Yeah, I'm also OOS and looking forward to it. By the way, there's an Iowa Med class of 2013 thread in the allopatric class thread sections.

I'll be there and can't wait!!

I was in one of the last interview groups, and they said that pretty much all Jan/Feb interviews are in a pool with anyone not already accepted or rejected during rolling admissions. They said the admissions committee will not be meeting until the end of this month, and had not been meeting in January/February so don't plan to hear anything until March. They said that only about half the class was full, so not to stress too much. Hope this is helpful to you!

would love to come to second look but its on the same day as another school and iowas day sounds rather short in comparison, i wish i could be at iowas too =/

do you have to be invited to go to the second look program?

im a little confused as to what if offers and where to find information. if anyone could enlighten me that would be helpful.

its snowing where i am, anyone else?

Its open to accepted students, iowa calls it get acquainted day or something. There isnt much info available yet but I think it will involve getting to know other students and faculty on an informal basis, plus they will likely have many activities planned out.

They mention it briefly in the acceptance letter, but I have not seen any other correspondence specifically relating to this.

I hope there are some activities planned out, enough for me to get a good look at things, because airfare to Cedar Rapids doesn't seem to be cheap that time of the year... it's almost $280 for me to fly there from the east coast. Well, looks like it's time to tighten the buckles some more to free up the $$..

FYI-- $280 is an awesome price going into or out of CID. I have paid up to $450, and have never paid $300.

For all of us in the final pool waiting most likely will end. Last year they began sending letters on March 10th.

Here's hoping sooner rather than later. I've prepared myself to wait until March 30th...

Thanks for posting that link, it is quite helpful.

I don't know if the GA day will actually help me make a decision, especially this close to the end of the cycle (I have to essentially decide before May 1). I'm actually considering not even going to any of the second looks as I am not 100% sure what I can get from them (all of them are obviously going to focus on the positives of attending the school) that I can't get from emailing/calling a few current students, which is what I'm doing now. We'll see..

Hey everyone,

I was "final pooled" and just received an acceptance email from Carver! Check your inboxes...!! 😀 I loved Carver. Absolutely loved it. Will be withdrawing, however. Best of luck to everyone waiting!!! :luck:

i thought the final pool was going to hear about the decision by mail?

thanks for the heads up, and congrats!:luck:

I got the email this afternoon as well!!! I was one of the last interview groups, so I was pooled with everyone else for whom there had been no decision yet. The acceptance email said that there is also a letter in the mail... they probably just didn't want to keep us waiting (thank goodness). Woohoo!

+1

Email said the official letter+other info will be snail-mailed.

Anyone else hearing anything?

Accepted this evening to Carver. In state applicant-received the email around 5:00. Good luck!

haven't heard anything...I thought decisions for final pool came exclusively via snail mail...in any case, congrats to those who were accepted 🙂

Accepted this evening... in state...

I have it on good authority that decisions were made TODAY, and the class was filled+ ~20 spots. No idea when or how acceptances/waitlists/rejections are going out. I haven't heard anything yet :xf:

I feel like throwing up. With Iowa gone, this cycle rests on WashU. Not good odds.

Edit: Shouldn't say "gone" before I actually hear from the school I guess...

I just emailed the admissions office and they said decision letters were mailed today. I don't know if this means that people who didn't receive an email yesterday are either rejected or wait listed, but I didn't receive an email so I am trying to keep my hopes up. :xf:

Kinda weird that they sent out emails this year. I am trying not to read into it too much. We cant assume anything.
