Yeah, it sounds like a deferment of the decision. Weird. Good luck - I hope it turns into an acceptance soon! 👍

I got a letter today from them too and I've been accepted! I am so excited!

I got a letter today saying that no decision has been made on my file and it is still in active consideration. Sooo...no rejection, waitlist, or acceptance...How should I react to this? haha
Based on the FAQ on their website as well as the ultimate decision for me after I received that letter, the chances are slim. Keep the hope alive, but just be realistic.

I received the same letter yesterday (interviewed 9/24). I have a friend who got this letter last year, was eventually waitlisted, and ultimately accepted. So there is hope.

Congrats Chad! ...Ive been secretly rooting for you from Lurker-ville

For those of you who have been accepted, do we have to turn in the health/immunization form now? On the letter that accompanied the form, it said it had to be returned in 4 weeks, but it looks like the letter is written for students who are actually matriculating... I was planning on only going to the trouble of getting one of these forms filled out (since most places don't require them until the time you actually begin school).

Also, am I correct in that there is no deposit to hold your acceptance? I didn't see anything in the conditions of acceptance about it.

chad--i called today about the health form and it seemed like we needed to send it in ASAP (if not within that 4 week time period). i was thinking along the same lines as you....if you call and find something different let me know.

and no, there is no deposit to hold your spot. confrimed by MSAR. haha. yet one more "pro" for MD

🙁 I hope Student Health still has my shot records and stuff even though I graduated in May.

I interviewed yesterday, 11/5. I hope it went well. What is everyones general idea on when I will receive a response? 3 weeks? I am a state resident, hope that helps my case.

Turnaround at the beginning of the interview season was 3 weeks. My decision took exactly 4 weeks, but I'm thinking it's because one of my interviewers probably couldn't make it to the original adcom meeting the week before. If you call the office, they will say it could take anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks, despite what you may have been told on interview day. Also, decisions seem to be made on Tuesday/Wednesday and are received by applicants Thursday-Saturday.

Good luck!

Correct, NO DEPOSIT NECESSARY (for any of the three schools in MD, I believe).

I had that same question last year.

Just got an interview invite!!!!

I was hoping that they did not forget about me😀

Man I hope I hear from them soon...maybe they decided they don't like me after my interview last year so they're punishing me this time around.

I got my interview invite today and I am scheduled for 1/14. Is it normal for it to be so late or is this saying something?

How many acceptances do you think schools award compared to how many actually matriculate. I am sure more competitve schools can award less and expect most accepted students to come. So maryland for example matriculates 120 in state out of about 320 interviews and 40 OOS from about 400 interviews. How many do you think they are actually accepting to fill all the available spots?

In the brochure they gave us yesterday, they said that they offered 310 acceptances last year.

Well I know for OOS, Maryland interviewed 153, accepted 97, and 31 matriculated. For IS, Maryland 321 interviewed, 220 were accepted, 129 enrolled. That data is from 2007, by the way.

just wondering, when exactly were you complete and are you IS or OOS? I've been complete since 9/29, IS, and haven't heard anything still

Thanks chad and Funky. I havent had time to look through that book to indepth. I love me some The whole university of Maryland Baltimore is incredible. My bro just graduated from the school of dentistry, and he has nothing but praise for the system.

I am instate and I submitted my application 9/21 but I don't know when it was complete because it said forever that one of my LOR wasn't in so I called and they were like oops we just forgot to change your status on the website. So, I'm not really sure when it was actually put in the pile for review. You could call perhaps. If you are having a similar issue, I would call.

I'm kind of at a loss for why I haven't heard anything yet, and I even went to the same school as you...ugh. Stupid.

Don't worry about when you actually have the interview. I interviewed last year a little later and they still had "plenty of acceptances left". Its an interview!

I graduated from Loyola and then did the postbac program at Towson. But yeah, I'm sure it'll be fine for both of us.

so my parents just informed me that they have a letter for me from UMD... I interviewed about 4 weeks ago.... I didn't have the guts to even ask them what hte envelope looked like and just asked them to re-mail it to my school address... for those who heard back - whether it was an acceptance/hold/waitlist/rejection - what was the envelope size thickness and all that??? gah Im so nervous :-/

My acceptance packet was a large envelope (maybe 9"x12") with about 10 papers and a small booklet inside.

I would think that a waitlist/rejection would come in a regular-sized envelope.

crap 🙁 actually my parents told me it was a 1-pager in a regular envelope 🙁🙁

Hey All,

So for those of you that have interviewed or been accepted are you OOS or IS?

Also, caught wind that U of MD was sending out holds? Does anyone know how they work?

Good luck to everyone

OOS (but in Virginia and apparently they have a slight preference for us). Also, the holds were discussed in this thread about a page back (I think).

ACCEPTED!!!!!😀

Got the phone call today! Show me the money!

FINALLY GOT AN INVITE TODAY!!!!

After all the **** I went through to get it...ugh. Here's to hoping!

What kind of **** did you have to go through to get an invite? Because I'll do it...

The MSAR has all of it. See if your pre-med advisor has one.

Well, for one: worrying about reapplying and if that is going to be a strike against me. Two, last year my letter of recommendation from my school wasn't sent out until mid-October so I didn't get an interview until 1/27. Three, being rejected and having to find a job as well as re-take the MCAT. Four, finding out that this year University lost my LOR after marking received online. Five, calling the admissions office to find out what happened with my letter and why I didn't hear for so long and them yelling at me saying my online status was right and there is no way the letter isn't there. Six, speaking to the clinical director of the program I work for at the University as well as my pre-med advisor to see if they can talk to Dr. Foxwell about what happened to my LOR. Seven, re-sending and waiting for re-processing of my letter and then finally getting an interview.

And all associated stressing and flipping out about this whole hold up messing up my chances of acceptance.

Yay, I got accepted today!!!😀 I interviewed on 11/5 and I loved it here...and I am OOS, so I was VERY surprised!!! It took exactly 3 weeks to make the decision (the packet was sent on 11/26), and I am so confused where I will be next year. Good luck y'all!:luck:

I've been complete since 7/31ish and haven't heard anything. Nov 15th they said they were considering my app. I'm IS, 31R, 3.7 GPA. Am I crazy? Or do I still have a chance? Anyone else still waiting out there?

My buddys g/f just got an interview there and I'd say her stats are pretty much what yours are. Maybe a 30 and a 3.8, she's IS as well. Her interview is in February, and I know they interview into mid-March, so there's still time for you to be invited.

Thanks. 🙂 I'm just getting antsy. I know it's too early for antsiness...but...we're premeds after all.

Can someone please explain this. I was complete at Georgetown and UMD at the same time, but somehow I have already been invited to Georgetown and have already had my interview. Georgetown gets over 10,000 applicants so they have to go through a lot more applications. How come I have not heard anything from Maryland, but have heard from Gtown?

I figured because Maryland has far fewer applicants and because I'm in-state, I would surely hear from them first.

Is the admissions department just much more thorough at Georgetown?

There's your first mistake. Never assume anything in the admissions game.

For the record, I interviewed at Georgetown and UMD within a month of each other. Be patient - it's only early December. Also, from what I remember, Georgetown's interview season begins before UMD's, and it's possible that GU interviews more people/more frequently than UMD.

Thanks for the reassurance. I've just been bummed that I haven't heard anything from them and I'm seeing all of these students get acceptance letters and I don't even have an interview date yet.

anyone heard any news who interviewed around 11/12?

I interviewed 11/10 and no word. The wait is killing me- I really liked this school.

Also, when should one start to worry if no interviews are extended? There's a couple of schools that haven't contacted me yet and I'm starting to sweat lightly. I figure December is getting on in the year...

Dr foxwell said the adcom meets every monday. They probably did not meet the monday after thanksgiving though. so you should probably hear something this week.
