nope, just the phone call from Dr. Weisman. he said they would mail the acceptance package in 1 to 2 days.

*sigh* I wish I didn't have class at all the wrong times. I tried calling the number back but it just gives a busy tone.

Thanks, though, leejwwc.

pianola, i meant to say that they can't offer more acceptances than spaces at one point. e.g. if med school X has 100 spaces in their class and they've offered 100 acceptances, they cannot offer the 101st until one of the initial 100 drops. this is strait from Dr. Weismann at UM.

I remember being told at my interviews (one of them being UM) that before May 15th a school is allowed to offer up to 10% more acceptances than they have spots. So if Miami's main campus is 150 students (which I believe it is, not 120), then they are allowed to accept 165.

thanks matt, have you heard any news from fiu?

nope! no news from FIU nor creighton...
and at this point; no news is good news.
well thats what im going to keep telling myself anyways 😳
i just became complete with UMiami though...so hopefully i can find some luck with them.

you have a great application matt, i'm sure you will get some love soon. and i see you already got into a couple schools, that is awesome man! its really hard waiting for these decisions, but it's amazing to know you will be a doctor regardless of how the rest of the cycle turns out.

Has anyone heard anything from Miami lately? I was complete around 10/01 and still no word (IS). 🙁

Waitlisted.

That word and this sentence is the only thing I can say right now that's probably not a violation of SDN posting guidelines.

Waitlisted as well 😱

Perhaps a current student can answer this, what is the likelihood of getting an acceptance from Miller off of the waitlist BEFORE May 15th?

did you guys get put on the waitlist with email or with phonecall? im scared...:scared:

I called admissions, and while the lady wouldn't disclose figures, she did say that they wouldn't be admitting anyone off the waitlist until spring. I should have asked for a more specific date, but that could mean March or April.

I'm not holding my breath. Still, dang. I walked out of the interview feeling like I slam dunked it.

Oh yeah, it was an e-mail notification.

That makes sense Adam, since I believe they conclude their interviews for this application cycle sometime in late March. While they cannot specify our rankings for confidentiality purposes, I was told that I was "an excellent candidate, if that helps". I just want to know before May starts rolling around, keeping my fingers crossed. I felt the same way after my interview as well, which was pretty intense yet I had what I felt were reasonable answers for all of his questions. *sigh* we'll see!

Guys, keep your spirit up. Your odds of being accepted off Miami's alternate list are excellent! I believe that their alternate list is ranked, but they won't disclose the ranking. Also they accept > 70% of students that went for interview, and >50% of incoming class come from the alternate list.

Here's is a post from Dr. Hinkley in 2005 on the Miami alternate list:

Thanks, Ortho.

Still, it's going to suck not knowing where I'm going (if anywhere) until May 11 at the earliest.

Do you remember how long it took to receive an II after you were complete? 🙂

anyone know if there's public transportation from FLL to the miami campus? i tried to look it up but it's a bit confusing. thanks!

I believe you can take the tri-rail from FLL to the metrorail and then the metrorail to med campus. Not 100% sure. Public transportation in miami is AWFUL.

I was complete as of 10/7...any clue as to when I should be hearing something? Is no news at this point good news? UCF COM sent the MOST informative e-mail talking about their procedure...how those who were considered competitive, but not insanely competitive would not be contacted until later...so is no news good news from Miami?

Hey, I just called admissions. As I suspected, the different campi admit/reject/waitlist applicants separately. For instance, even though I'm waitlisted at UM Miami, I'm still in the running at Boca Raton. (Which is weird because both campi have the same interviewee pool)

Anyway, we might consider changing the acceptance/rejection/waitlist threads to reflect that there are two different sets of eyes evaluating us.

just got an interview yaaayy

{sigh} just called yesterday, won't find out status until the ~19th. Almost a month and half later from interview date 🙁

What did they say? I interviewed on 10/3 and haven't heard anything, did they give a reason? sorry I'm being a little nuerotic I probably should have just called too.

For those other fellow waitlisters, when you sent them your acceptance onto their alternate list, did they send you any sort of confirmation of this? I replied via e-mail on the 30th, and although I received a letter via snail mail about being waitlisted, I never got anything basically saying "Ok, we got your acceptance, we'll let me know" type deal. Am I just being paranoid?

I never got any response to my acceptance for a position in the class (not a waitlist but still, same idea).

I'm calling on Monday...

Me either, did you get a letter by snail mail? I still haven't yet, but my school's mail delivery is painfully slow, it took 2 weeks for the FIU acceptance packet to trickle its way through the cracks to me...and UM's acceptance is time-sensitive (2 weeks max notification time, I believe).

If you have, is it an acceptance letter or packet? Is there a reply form that we need to fill out?

So many questions...

Nope, didnt mention a reason. Most likely interviewer didn't write up the report fast enough to be processed in last meeting im guessing.

Yeah, I got the letter yesterday; I called Miami about it on Friday and they said they sent the letters out late.

It's an acceptance letter and there's nothing we need to fill out (no forms or anything; just a straight letter from Dr. Weissman). I think it said "please respond within two weeks from the date at the top of this letter [= Nov. 3rd.]" So you have plenty of time. And I believe e-mail should be sufficient...--->

The acceptance letter specifies that we can either e-mail them our acceptance or submit it in writing (which is slightly different than the e-mail we got which specifies that we must do both). Again, I need to call the school to figure out what's actually up.

Ok, thanks for clarifying Pianola, I guess I will call tomorrow to confirm too. I just replied, in rather informal language 🙄, to Dr. Weissman's e-mail accepting the position but didn't get a confirmation either.

Heh, when I read the acceptance e-mail, I missed the part about needing to send an acknowledgment e-mail until Thursday or so. So I sent in my acknowledgment e-mail last Thursday as fast as possible.

I was having nightmares that Miami rescinded my acceptance because I didn't e-mail them back fast enough 😉.

Anyway, you should get your letter soon and you can always call them if you don't. You could always just submit your hard copy acknowledgment now if you're concerned. They don't give you anything else special to put on your acknowledgment.

Yeah, this application process makes us all slightly *more* paranoid than usual 😀. Btw, is the address to send it just the admissions office?

OK, it says "To reserve your place in the 2009 entering class, you must respond to this offer in writing within two weeks from the date at the top of this letter [Nov. 3rd]. Just send an e-mail to [email protected] or send a hard copy to the mail address below."

Admissions

Post Office Box 016159
Miami, Florida 33101

Hope that helps 🙂🙂

Congrats to everyone that has been admitted so far!! If you have any questions about it, I am currently a MS1. Feel free to either post here or better PM me and I will respond.

FYI: You DO need to send in a paper copy of your acknowledgment of the acceptance (as well as an e-mail). Just to clarify.

Has anyone that was complete around 10/01 or end of September gotten an interview invite? 😕 Thanks!

Hmm, is this paper copy separate from the packet we're ab to receive?

Same boat as you. I was technically complete at the end of September, but they did not download my rec. letters from Virtualevals until 10/10. I have since interviewed and actually beeen accepted at other schools, but no word from Miller.

Hoping for some news soon. Good luck to you!

There's no packet. Just a single letter saying "congrats you got in. E-mail us or send us a hard copy of your acknowledgment of our acceptance".

Only you have to do both, according to the office. It's not an or situation.
