Pitt has started rejecting people post secondary/pre interview via status page but without an email notification. Good luck to you all.

Anyone know when 9/15-9/17 interview decisions come out?

9/19 interview here, with the same message for over a month.

Application is under review. Please allow 8 weeks from interview date to receive final decision.

Thanks for the heads-up. Rejected, but not unexpected 😛

Best of luck you guys. I interviewed 9/10, and was accepted 9/17, so I imagine those of you who interviewed between 9/10-9/20 should be hearing very soon. I thought I heard the adcom meets weekly..but I really cannot be sure.

But anyway, I loved PittMed sooooo much, and hope the rest of you get the lovin' you deserve!

Nothing for a 9/15 interview. 🙁

Wow.
Rejected post-secondary with 3.8 and 37S.
Maybe I have a bad LOR or something. 🙁

Sorry to hear that...best of luck with all your other applications. If it's any consolation (and I'm sure it's not), Pitt is really looking for people that would fit their community, and maybe for the best, they felt you would not mesh well (I don't mean this is any derogatory manner). I'm sure with your stats you'll find great success in your other apps!! Best wishes!!

^Haha thanks. Congrats on your acceptance! 🙂

The suspense is killing me! Pitt's my first choice, and my faculty interview didn't go so well .... 🙁
congrats to all those accepted!!! and waitlisted- hey, I'd be thankful not to get rejected at this point!

PM me if you wanna talk about faculty interview... I'd like to compare notes... Mine was kind of a warm fuzzy interview. Felt very lucky. Pitt is my first choice to, and I hope we can both get it!

One of my friends who is now an MS1 at Pitt said that her faculty interview was almost an trainwreck, and she still got accepted on the first go around...so don't get down on yourself. Maybe I'll see you around there 😉

Do you mind telling us when you were complete? I've received the silent treatment since submitting my secondary and I'm waiting patiently for that rejection to come through.

I was under the impression that they give out auto-interviews for applicants with high enough numbers. Does anyone know what the specific cut-offs are? Or am I mistaken about this?

I was complete on 8/28.

I don't think Pitt does this very often, definitely not as often as University of Michigan (and other schools, maybe Vandy?). The only specific person I remember is someone earlier in this thread mentioning that they got a pre-secondary invite, but as I recall she was a very accomplished URM applicant. 🙂

No auto-invites, according to someone in the admissions office the year I interviewed.

I don't know exactly how they pick people to interview, but I do know that Pitt is very on top of the applications and that is why you can get an interview invite very quickly after submitting the secondary. Of course, having high numbers definitely helps you get that early interview.

I can also see why they might invite someone prior to even filling out the secondary if the person's primary application was that stellar.

I was really surprised to find out that I was rejected by Pitt last night as well, considering that I already have several invites at top 10 schools. I really like the city of Pittsburgh, so it's real bummer. But, as some of the other posters have said, I am just taking this as a sign that I would not have been a good fit with Pitt's program. Rejections are an inevitable part of this process for almost every applicant, so we can't let this one upset us. Even if it is a sweet school like Pitt 🙁

Wait...people who interviewed on 9/16-17 have heard back already? I interviewed before that and my status page still says "under review; please wait 8 weeks..."

I just found out I got rejected too...NARTS!

WLed 9/15 interview. Wow, I can't believe they're not going to consider my app again until May. That's a long time...

Is everyone just checking their status online or are they getting emails from students/faculty? Combination?
🙂

I checked the status page...

Does Pittsburgh send out rejections post-interview or do they just waitlist everyone who didn't get an acceptance?

I wonder if anyone has any idea if this has been a particularly competitive cycle thus far in comparison to previous years... just thinking! 😉

no change on my app status.. but i was complete a little later than hands, so i'm waiting for that rejection to fall through :/

Interviewed 9/12 Waitlisted 10/23(today). My third bummer after being deferred at CaseWestern and OhioState. Depressing🙁🙁

I interviewed on 9/15 and got accepted today. Just wanted to let people know who had interviews around then to check their status page because I didn't get an email or anything. Good luck everyone! 🙂

Congrats...maybe I'll see you in April at Second look 😛

The wait is killing me... but then again I interviewed 10/13... So should I really expect to hear in 8 weeks, or is 5 most likely gonna be the case?

One can only guess....it does seem to be about 5 weeks right now, but who knows if it will slow down/speed up in the coming weeks and months.

Hmm...it seems like the status page is only telling people about acceptances and waitlists. If it hasn't changed (and I interviewed before 9/15), does it mean that I'm probably rejected? Has anyone been rejected yet post interview from Pitt?

I interviewed 9/9 and was rejected today via status page. So the post interview rejections have begun...🙁

Well I guess that answers my question. Wish you the best, boro.

hey guys! congratulations on the acceptances! i am interviewing at pitt soon, and was wondering if any of you have any advice as far as prepping for the interview. I'm relaly nervous about interviewing here!!

foodfood: Don't be nervous! It really is a laid back day, and I think they try hard to make it that way. If I were you, I'd check out the interview feedback here..two recurring questions on there are why medicine? and Why Pitt? Definitely come up with something good for the latter, because it seems almost everyone is asked that one..they are big into "fit." Pitt also has a 2008-2009 Viewbook posted on their admissions site that goes over their program pretty well, so check that out, it's pretty good. Also, be prepared to walk--their tour is rather extensive (but the best I've been on so far), and Pittsburgh is rather hilly! Best of luck!!

The best advice is don't be nervous. I felt like the school was trying to sell itself even more than we were (since, you know, who actually wants to live in Pittsburgh?). Just relax and have a down to earth conversation with your interviewer... find out what they're interested in, ask them questions about their career choice, and compliment them with things like "that's really cool/interesting." I think politeness and a relaxed personality go a long way in these interviews, and will serve you better than over-preparation and rehearsed answers.

LOL take it easy on the 'burgh. Over the last two decades they have done a fine job of cleaning up the city and giving certain sections (The Waterfront) a quasi-hip feel. The surround areas are very nice and fairly wealthy. There are fine restaurants (even though as a med student no one will have the money to go there). There is a resounding, unique culture in the city with plenty to do and America's team, The Pittsburgh Pirates, play their home games in the one, the only PNC park where they have windows in the bathrooms so you can P-N-C.

Lol I kill myself:laugh:

PS. It is fairly warm compared to the rest of Pa, I don't know why?

I'm going to have to agree with MrAgreeable; Pittsburgh is actually a really great city. I'd never been there, but was really impressed. No, it's not NYC or Chicago, but that's a given. It is really a unique town for it's size, has tons of cultural attractions (who wouldn't want to see the world's largest collection of dinosaur bones at the Carnegie?!), and the Oakland area is rather hip. Also, Shadyside and Squirrel Hill are great residential communities. I think if you go in with an open mind, you'll be rather impressed with the city.

Haha... I'm looking forward to visiting the park if I wind up going to Pitt (but not seeing the Pirates). I definitely liked the city when I visited and would be happy there for the next 8 years (I'm MD/PhD), but I'm a So Cal native so it's hard for me to imagine living anywhere else. Yeah, Dodger's Stadium has those impersonally long troughs, so the only thing you P-N-C is the person next to you.
