For those of you who have interviewed at Pitt - what did you not like about Pitt or what do you feel are some cons with the school?

Personally, I would have liked it better if it were a true pass/fail system for the preclinical years.

I did not like the fact that they take 6-8 weeks to make a decision on our file. I also did not like their secondary. Besides that, I loved Pitt!😍😍😍

Pass/fail would have been nice, but I don't think the honors/pass/fail system is too bad. It's nice to be rewarded when you do very well, even though it can be frustrating if you just miss the cutoff.

You'll be told over and over again, though, that your preclinical grades don't really matter much--so not getting honors isn't a big deal.

No matter what the grading system, your main priority should be learning the material as well as you possibly can--which doesn't ALWAYS equate to getting a really high grade. Some professors ask really odd questions.

and also i'll add: what did you LIKE? I have my interview this Wednesday and cannot wait.
 
There is a LOT to like. Going through this thread or the interview feedback will tell you a ton about why students love Pitt.

No school is perfect, however, so I was trying to elicit some cons about the school - that's all 🙂

What do you guys think of the Scholarly Project? While I see the reasons behind having it in the curriculum, could it be a hindrance/nuisance to be required to do it? Does it add to the stress of second and third years especially?
 
Would any first week of October (or earlier) interviews who haven't heard yet, post if they hear anything please? 🙂 I'm tired of obsessively checking my status, so I figured to wait until someone else does first!!

I'm not gonna sweat it till 12:30ish on Thursday. Hope it comes earlier though.
 
i hit the 9-week mark yesterday.

when i called them last week, i just got a general response - you should be hearing from us "soon."
 
9 weeks!... haha, "hearing from us soon" sounds so sinister...
yea, i was hoping for earlier than this week, just because it's my birthday on Friday and I'd rather not have bad news..... :/

I had fallen in love with Jefferson last cycle, but when I got to Pitt, I realized I had some aspirations that wouldn't be addressed as well at Jeff as compared to Pitt. I really can't find fault with anything @ Pitt. The cost is high, but not extremely high (UIC has that honor among the schools I am considering).

For some people the scholarly project can be a negative, however it is so wide open, you can do anything you are interested in with it.... So it's not a huge negative.

I guess if you don't like the cold.......

BTW, I am unable to function because i am so focused on this Thursday...
 
I guess I have 3 questions to people who have already interviewed or live in the area.

How hard is it to use the ridegold bus system to get to the shadyside inn (I arrive in Pitt at 11:10 pm)?

Also, how do I get to the school once I'm at the shadyside inn?

And finally, how do I get from the school back to the airport?

The easiest way is to take the 28x from oakland (that is the area around pitt). The bus runs about every half-hour. You can look on the port authority of allegheny county website to find the schedule and pick-up locations for the 28X.

just keep in mind the bus ride is about an hour long too

Myuu, really? I was going to ask you, since we interviewed on the same day.. I'm holding off until I get home from work to check...maybe I won't hear today then.. im actually surprised i havent heard yet because my faculty interview was the dean of admissions..... that doesn't sound promising hm? 🙂

Yup, really. I just checked now and still nothing. My guess is that they can't decide if they love me or not. I thought I saw in the rejection thread that someone who interviewed on the first was outed a while back, so that means either that there's still some hope left for us, or our interviewers are very, very busy people.:laugh::xf:
 
This has been bothering me for a long time, lol.

The University of Pittsburgh is referred to colloquially as "Pitt" not "U of Pitt" and definitely not that AWEFUL "UPitt". I am from the area and knowing countless people who have attended undergrad and professional school in the University of Pittsburgh system, I am positive they all call it "Pitt". The sports teams are "Pitt" and the branches are "Pitt-Somethingorother". The med school to all of us hopefuls in western Pennsylvania (all six of us), call it "Pitt". Please call it "Pitt".

Sorry, haha, not really sure why it bothers be that much.
 
For all you waitlist people, did you only find out through status page and snail mail? Anyone get email?

I got an email, but after Status Page.

As opposed to previous years, this year we are admitting fewer applicants outright, and will be taking many more from the wait list. The decision on whom to take from the wait list is based on several factors, not the least of which is interest of the wait listed student in attending this school. Therefore, we welcome updates from you regarding your continued interest in attending school here, if such is the case. Good luck Myuu! And hey maybe they are giving you the treatment Upstate gave me... on that account, it will take 15 weeks for you to hear something...:laugh: Hopefully not though...:luck::luck::luck:
 
I found out via status check about a month ago. Although today I got an email "congratulating" me on my waitlist status... oh wellzz
 
After receiving that email (I was waitlisted at the end of September), I was glad to hear that they accept updates at any time! I had been told during my interview day that I should not send any material until April of next year.
 
Did everyone get the email inviting them to apply to the PSTP and CSTP programs?

I've gotten two emails about it now. It sounds pretty cool, I just don't know if I want to fill out another application. 😳
 
I didn't. Do you guys have decisions on your app? I think they only consider accepted applicants.
 
I got it, but they have not made a decision on my file yet... Hmm is this good news?
 
I got it and I haven't interviewed yet. Also, I don't think it's applicant specific because I got it even though I already applied to the PSTP. 🙄
 
Sounds like it could be good news though....at the very least it may mean they're not sitting on a rejection or waitlist decision for our files. Either not yet reviewed or accepted?

I too am among those who obsessively check Pitt's status page...:scared:

8 weeks for me is 15th.

Yep. And my heart freaking jumped when I saw it, before I realized it had nothing to do with an acceptance. Pitt shouldn't play with me like that.

I bet its just among applicants who havent had a decision made on their file yet. I was waitlisted.
