Anyone get an interview invitation lately? I'm still hoping to get one. I know they said they send out invites through the end of March, but I'm getting really nervous. USC is at the top of my dream list!

By the way, isn't their office the nicest on the phone? All the other offices I've called have acted like I'm wasting their time. Keck admissions is so accommodating!

They are the best...and they put out cookies when you walk in!!!
It is like going to a spa...but you are in an admissions office

They give you cookies? I didn't have cookies.

Though the lunch was freakin awesome.

Yeah it was
did you try the ketchup by chance?
Because it was like their own home blend and it was SO SO SO SO good it was tangy and brilliant!

their lunch was legit....wish students could eat there all of the time!

I did try it! it was kinda spicy, for some reason I was thinking it was the fries. but now that I think back on it, it was the ketchup. delicious.

I think it was actually just ketchup with Tabasco sauce ... still tasted exotic and interesting though. That was my best lunch so far out of 10 interviews.

The spicy ketchup was freaking awesome with the regular fries but the sweet potato fries were too far for me to reach! I should have asked someone to pass them.

I cannot wait for 2nd look day.
I really am considering poking my head into that restaurant and asking them for a little container full of it.

Unfortunately second look day for me is literally finals week (or maybe the week before). So ya...no second look for me 🙁

Hey

Does anyone know where the majority of 3rd and 4th year students do their clerkships at?

If you could split it up into approximate percentages, that would be great.
(ie: 40% rotations occur at USC University Hospital, etc)

I wasn't paying attention during my interview day....

I don't remember exactly but I imagine a lot will be down at LA County, the brand new hospital. For pediatrics I'm pretty sure they are affiliated with LA Children's Hospital, which is a really great children's hospital if that is something you are interested in (I am).

Yay, just got in! I had sort of accepted that I was not going to get in, but apparently telling your interviewer you don't know what they are talking about doesn't hurt you.
For the questions that usually follow, the letter was postmarked 2/26 and I interviewed early December. I did not send a LOI, but I did call to check that I didnt forget to give them any paperwork a few weeks ago, so they may have taken that to show interest.

CONFREAKINGRATZ!!!!

hey there possible future classmate!. I am so excited about going to KECK! I cant wait until Aug. SUN, SURF, Volleyball...ohh...and medical school

I have a question about the second look day. On the google group it says that it's a second look/new student orientation. Does this mean that it is an official orientation and that if we go, we'll be legally bound to attend med school there, even if we should be accepted off another school's waitlist later on?

I was hoping I could use the second look day to help make up my mind. I thought that was the point.

Can anyone be a student host for tomorrow? I know this is VERY last-minute!

I'm pretty sure it doesn't bind you to Keck. At least I hope not, I have the same idea as you (use the day to help me make a decision)!

how long did it take to get invited to the google group? does it have alot of info?

I was accepted in early December and it wasn't until late January that I got the google group email, but I think I may be an outlier. I'm not sure why, but I think it took them longer to process my check than some others - and I'm sure the holidays didn't help.

It doesn't have much info, but it does talk about second look day, some Fafsa stuff, and I think someone started a conversation about driving down for the second look day. I hear from current students that it becomes more helpful later when people have decided where to go (i.e. getting to know your classmates type stuff).

haha
You're a clown. Of course it's to make up your mind. Im a clown for responding.

Oh Oh Oh!!!
I like oatmeal cookies too, and mac n cheese, and pastrami sandwiches, and bagels!

I was invited like 3 days after being accepted like 4 weeks ago but I still haven't been able to join. I had an issue with the email address that was invited and I've contacted the admissions office twice to try and get it to work...hasn't happened yet.

I also had a problem making an account to fill out financial aid stuff...like it said it was going to send me a confirmation email but never did.

I think i'm just getting really unlucky.

I interviewed 1/28, and called today to ask if a decision has been made yet. The lady told me that decisions from the week that I interviewed will be sent out either late this week or by the end of next week. Just thought I'd share.

yeah - decisions (or at least acceptances) seem to come in the mail on Fridays

I got my acceptance letter in the mail today 🙂 I have never been so relieved...happy yes, but I can't emphasize the relief.
This is my 3rd year of applying to medical school--I had previously gotten no acceptances anywhere. Life finally feels good again.

Congrats! When they say decisions will come out in 6 weeks, they really mean it. That was exactly 6 weeks.

I got in!!!

The letter was dated Feb 23rd, and I interviewed the last week of January.

Wow!

😍

congratz possible future classmate

Sankond,

I just wanted to say, since I see you post a lot (you are looking into some of the same schools I am)....

I also like turtles. They are really cool. I LOVED the Ninja Turtles when I was a child (I was one for Halloween like 6 years in a row). I also was going to go on a trip to Galapagos just to see the Galapagos turtles. That or costa rica to work for a week at one of the national parks helping the baby turtles.

But ya, turtles are awesome.

I love turtles of all sorts too!! and, BTW I still love the ninja turtles

You have already probably seen this, but here it is again for everyones viewing pleasure. (This happened in Portland on the waterfront BTW)

thats correct

But wouldn't that be unethical? (Not having refundable acceptance deposits which are against AAMC policy.)

By what I hear, they also use the second look day as a "new student orientation", thereby locking you in. AAMC requires you to attend the school where you attend "new student orientation".

Is this true as well? The second look day is also orientation?

Maybe they picked their admits based on love of turtles. I am such a turtle lover that my turtles were on my med school app 🙂 As a hobby of course...and no I am not kidding. It was my 3rd year of applying to med school, so I went no holds barred and mentioned them. There wasn't a single interview where my interviewer didn't want to discuss my turtles. My oldest one will be with me when I start at Keck. She's going to be older than some of our classmates (23) 😛...indeed older than you, Sankondbest.

Just had my interview. The school is amazing.

Haha That is great!. I want to met Mrs. Turtle when I go to Keck.

If you ever see an awkward looking kid show him your turtle and it will probably be
me

Its a policy, which means its a recommendation. The AAMC is going to tell USC how to conduct their business!?!?!? Not doing what the AAMC says to do is not unethical.

And I dont see how they could lock you in if you attend their second look week. Stop giving authority so much credit and think about things rationally.
Not everyone can make the second look date in May. Why would USC make that an orientation day?

Haven't you heard stories of people getting off waitlists and ditching schools last minute to go to others. Im not totally sure, but some of them may have finished orientation at the school they thought they were going to attend and then left it.

Is there anything else you want me to reassure you about? Not like I'm the best source to be getting your answers from. I could be making half this stuff up or not know what Im talking about, which is very likely.

Someone mentioned that interview invites will go out until the end of March.
Has anyone gotten an invite from Keck recently?

Their office is so nice but they really give you a sense of false hope when they say "No news is good news!" They've been saying that since like December. I'm still stunned by Cali...not a single interview...not a single chance...I feel you guys on the lack of cali love...

Does your status change on the check application site when you're accepted? I just called Keck, and the lady told me my final decision letter was mailed yesterday. I live in Socal, so I shouldn't have to wait too long. My status page doesn't say anything, so I was wondering if this means I was waitlisted/rejected? Thanks

Do you mind telling when you interviewed? Thanks!

What's up Trojans?! I took the letter right out of the mailman's hand today. ACCEPTANCE!!! Dated March 2. Can you say COUNTY HOSPITAL?!
