Just got a letter from vandy today, they told me that they wont extend an acceptance but will reconsider me again when the admissions committee meets. So I dont have to wait till May 15th, but it might still go that long 😳

I called Judy today and she told me that I should wait another week. I am not too fond of waiting right now!

So I haven't been sent a secondary yet. At what point do you think it is safe to say that I won't be hearing from them?

hey did anyone send more than three letters?

sorry i should rephrase that: Did anyone send more than three LORs for the secondary? i want to submit today but i forgot to call and ask on friday

Oh...😳 I am not sure...

I had 3 LOR's (one professional/character recommendation, one science professor, and one research director)

I also had the required 1 "committee" letter (written by the pre-med program director at my school who writes as the "committee head" but is actually the whole committee himself)

also, what do people do about the FERPA?

does it have an impact if you choose no waive

its teh family and educational right thing. its on page 4 of the secondary. you either select i waive this right or i do not but what does it mean as a whole

btw thanks for such a quick response!^^

You are welcome... I spend way too much time on site... I believe I waived the FERPA, because my parents have full access to my educational stuff since they pay for it...

I only submitted three, since that is what they asked for, and I got accepted so I think three should suffice.

Hey guys and gals. Sorry to repost this, but I would really like to know what you think.

I really have no idea at all. I heard back about three weeks after having been verified, but who knows if that is standard.

I got the secondary and invite a little under a month after submitting, but all youc an do is call them..i suppose.

So, I got a letter from Vandy! Not an acceptance, but there appears to be hope!

It reads,"While we are not able to offer you an immediate invitation at this time, we will be reconsidering your application throughout the admissions season."

Is this different from being waitlisted? It sounds like they reevaluate applicants periodically.

They say we can add information to our files. I was considering telling them about my Spring schedule (includes upper-level biology and an hour of research), a new job as a lab assistant, and a LOI. Are these good ideas, and, if so, how do you typically send this information? Snail mail? Email? What is usually the length/content of an LOI?

I'd really love to be accepted here, but it looks like I need to give myself a bump.

I think that's the waitlist letter (I got the same one)...?

It's the waitlist letter, but sure, go ahead and send a Letter of Interest. I probably wouldn't go too much longer than a page, but I think talking about your plans, what attracts you to Vanderbilt, etc. would be a good thing. I'd imagine sending by snail mail would be best since they'll throw it into your file to look at later, but you could always talk to them and see what they'd prefer.

Waitlist letter arrived today.....🙁

Gahhh, vandy I love you, please reconsider.

Sucks because I sent out a letter of interest on the 30th....the waitlist letter is dated the 28th....a tad slow i suppose, but hey maybe my letter will help me to be reconsidered favorably.

GL to those still waiting

I sent four. My career center sends them through virtual evals and all schools that I applied to got the same letters. It probably doesn't matter either way... I hope.

WL also...🙁

I got the "waitlist" letter, too.

So, I'm a little unclear as to what this actually means. To top it off, my dad opened the letter and I only talked to him on the phone so I don't know what the entire thing says.

Deferral means "we've decided that we cant decide right now so we'll talk about your application again at our next meeting."

Waitlist means "we've decided that we can't accept you and wont talk about you again until other people who we accepted withdraw their spot in the spring."

It seems like the Vandy letter is saying that they're not accepting us now but they'll continue to consider us actively? Or are they putting is away until May, when other people withdraw and more spots open?

Whoa, if shemarty got WLed, then I do not feel bad at all! I am not sure which letter I got... I will see when I go home today...

Sorry Shemarty!

Yep, this means they're actively considering us throughout the cycle...every time the adcom meets they'll re-consider us. But I don't think there are two different letters???

I agree, I don't think there are two different letters either. I was talking about the broad definition of "walitlist" compared to "deferred"

I guess they review everybody, accept some, and everybody else gets the "waitlist" letter.

This sounds the same as Baylor, where they either accept you or don't tell you anything at all. If you're in the latter group, they continue to reconsider you throughout the year.

This differs from other schools like U Mich, where there are actually 3 categories: Accepted, Defererd (they'll reconsider you later), or Waitlist (they'll consider you if there are leftover spots later)

Does this sound right? I don't really know for sure 😕

That's exactly how I see it! But on the bright side, someone who was waitlisted at Vandy was accepted earlier...so they really do keep us waitlisted folk under consideration 👍

wait, somebody waitlisted THIS year was already accepted THIS year??? sweet jesus 😱....exciting news

Just got my waitlist letter too 🙁 but maybe there's some hope. At least its better than a rejection

Didn't that person say that his/her letter said that the adcom hadn't made a decision yet, and the letter wasn't the standard "We can't invite you yet"? It wasn't an actual waitlist.

But we all have that letter! There's no two different letters (a hold letter and a waitlist letter). There's only one polite letter saying we're not going to offer you an acceptance just yet, but we will continue to look over your app throughout the year...it's all the same.

you can come say hi to me. 🙂

Scean - either Dr Zic, Dr Sagen, both, or the admissions committee in general.

D'awww... I wish I saw this before I left! I totally would have tried to look you up. It's was pretty quick "in and out" thing anywho. Got in on sunday night, left monday aft. hehe.

But yeah, this school is ridiculously awesome. Seriously, where do they get the money for this stuff? And not to mention, the inordinate flexibility and faculty support their seems to be. (Funded electives? Heck yeah!)

Berk, did you call and ask anything about the waitlist?
