I just received this:

"Your file is complete and has been preliminarily reviewed. You are within a pool of applicants from which an interview may be extended. Please note that this does not guarantee you will be offered an interview and you may not see an update to your status for several months."

Hooray for rejection, lol 😡

That's not a rejection, it's a hold.

Actually, from what I have read on this thread, that seems to be the message most people get shortly before they receive an invitation to interview. I wouldn't give up hope yet.

Has anyone who has interviewed seen a change in the online status page after his or her interview was done? Mine still looks the same as it did before my interview, where it has all of the interview and travel information. It is almost as if I never interviewed, sort of a disconcerting feeling since UVM is my first choice. I have been obsessively checking my status page, even though we were told that 10/16 would be the date.

Is it still the same? Mine hadn't changed as of a couple days ago (I checked as well) but it says something different now, along the lines of "thanks for interviewing, we hope you enjoyed your stay and were able to learn more about our school."

hey everyone,
i checked the online applicant center recently and received notice that I have been put on hold. does anyone know the stats not just for Vermont but for all schools as far as ratio of held applicants to eventually being granted an interview??? any thoughts on this topic would be appreciated

Can you please paste that message. You're the first person I've seen on this thread to receive a hold from vermont.
I'm sorry about being placed on Hold though. I was placed on hold at albany earlier today and it doesnt produce that happy feeling in your stomach.

Hold here as well:

Yes I still have the same message I had before my interview. Maybe this means that they have come to a decision about your application and are still thinking about mine (just a very random guess based on no actual evidence).

I have a very slight fear that since my nametag was printed wrong during my interview day there was some problem with their records and it appeared as if I never showed up for my interview. I don't think this is the case but at this point I am questioning my own sanity.

I received a hold from Vermont on 7/31 and was invited for an interview on 8/13. My interview is on Tuesday! :hardy:

Albany is uber slow...still incomplete there, lol

I submitted my secondary for vermont on 8/12 and since then all it has said is:

_____
Here is the status of your application items:

Pre-Professional Advisor or Committee Letter (Yes) Received

You can view your supplemental application by clicking here
______

Should I be seeing more than that?

it should also state somewhere that it takes 6-8 weeks to process your app. Afterwards most people are placed on hold.

yeah i've got the 6-8 week thing as well...i was wondering more about whether it should say something about when my fee, supplemental app, MCAT scores, etc came in. Can't wait for the hold status! thanks for the response!

i've yet to receive a "complete" email, which is why i started wondering...

I just got the hold for Vermont too. Hopefully we will be as lucky as those before us and get invites w/in a month or so.

Don't worry, Vermont doesn't send out a complete e-mail. I received the hold status via the status page and then got an interview 2 days later. The only e-mail I got was about the interview, so no worries if they don't send you updates!

Does anyone have the percentage accepted for OOS interviewees? Thanks.

162 accepted from 495 interviewees (OOS) - So about 33%

However most of these acceptances probably came from the waitlist. At my interview they told us you might be waitlisted and then accepted several days later.

I was on hold for few weeks and today I finally received an interview. My first one so far, so excited!!! THank you Vermont!!!

out of curiosity, has anyone in this application cycle received a status message update other than the "pool of applicants" hold (rejection or interview invite) directly after the preliminary review?

hey chad

did you do anything in between (contact admissions office/show interest or something like that)

Is that accepted as in everyone (those that later said they will attend and those that didnt) or just those that said they will attend?

Do schools even release info about the number they actually grant acceptance to (not simple the number that said yes)?

Since MSAR says that the class size is 115, that's probably the total number of ACCEPTANCES granted.

Nope. They actually told us at our interview that you don't really need to send any updates to your file because they know you're still doing stuff... but they did say to let them know if you're still interested in attending. If it's one of your top choices it wouldn't hurt to send an update letter at some point.

It's total number of acceptances offered for out-of-state students. It includes students who ended up matriculating there AND students who did not. This also includes students who were immediately accepted and those who were accepted off the waitlist. I have heard that a large number of the class comes from the waitlist.

How long after submitting your secondary and having your LORs marked as received is your status page updated to indicate you've been put in the pool of applicants?

About 5-6 weeks for me.

Anybody know how likely it is that you will get an interview once you have been placed in the "pool of applicants"? I was pleasantly surprised to have been placed in this category but am wondering what the chances of actually receiving an interview invite are.

Hey guys,
For those of you who have already had the interview, I'm sure you heard a lot about the integrated curriculum. Could somebody explain it to me in detail? I've read their website and the MSAR but still am not sure about the specifics. Thanks in advance!

Basically my understanding post-interview is that the essential point is that basic science isn't separated from applied science. Ie. You're studying the lower leg - one day you'll dissect the lower leg, the next day an ortho might come in and give a lecture on the lower leg, the next day you'll go over radiology of the lower leg, and the following day you might watch a surgery (they can pipe live video/sound to the lecture halls, and surgeons will answer questions in real time. HOW COOL IS THAT?!) I thought it was neat and made a lot of sense. I was also pleasantly surprised by their facilities and the learning technology they've got.

that is sick.

vermont just moved way up on my list

vermont is awesome as i read more up on it, the curriculum seems so hands on, no wonder its ranked very high in clinical training. Anyone else interviewing on Nov 11?

So I have been complete since mid-late August and have yet to be small pooled. Is it over?

Has anyone been rejected yet?

I really love UVM and will be really heart-broken if I lose the opportunity to interview there 🙁

For anyone who has already interviewed at Vermont, did your status page change after your interview? Mine is still the same.

Mine now reads:

Dear XXX:

We hope that you enjoyed your interview at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and that you were able to learn more about our school, curriculum and life in Burlington. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to send back your postage-paid interview day comment card to us with your feedback.

Your file will now be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and you will be notified in the coming weeks regarding the final decision of the committee.

When I was there they said we'd hear around thxgiving. The committee only meets once a month.

Thanks Breeak!!

Out of curiousity, when did you interview? Because they told us around Thanksgiving too.

I was there at the end of September. My bday is Dec 1, so I have my fingers crossed for good news as a bday present. 😀

I just got waitlisted via the status page: "We are pleased to inform you that your name has been placed on the Out-of-Area waitlist of qualified/alternate candidates.."

Anyone else?

I'm with you. Waitlist for the alternate, OOS applicants.

Does anyone know if they pull from the waitlist throughout the application process, or if they wait until May 15?

Does anybody know where I can find a list of medical schools that are good in clinical training? I'm assuming that "clinical training" doesn't necessarily equate with high primary care ranking on US News and World Report (or am I wrong?). Personally, I want to become the best clinician I can be, so I would rather choose a lower ranked research school than a higher one.

Oh and got an interview (OOS) on 11/18! Coulda rescheduled it for 10/21, but didn't want to fly to Montreal and then bus to Burlington 🙁

No idea, but now I'm wondering if anyone knows if they initially put all oos candidates on the waitlist initially?

From what I've seen, the usnwr primary care rankings do seem to correlate well with innovative and early hands-on clinical training. Clinical training is defined as training that is funded in part by patient care revenues and that occurs in either an inpatient or ambulatory patient care training site, ie. is not funded via research and is hands-on. In essence, primary care training is clinical training taken to the extreme.

They pull throughout the process. One of my tour guides there said she was waitlisted for 2 days before she was accepted. She said pretty much everyone OOS is waitlisted first, so don't feel too bad about it. Good luck! :luck:

By the way, when did you interview? On your interview day, did they tell you when you'd hear anything back? I interviewed on 9/23 but my status page hasn't changed from the "hope you enjoyed your interview" message.

I interviewed on 9/16. I don't know how often their committee meets, but I can pretty much be sure that you probably will find out early November. I think "around Thanksgiving" is them being cautious but really, it will be before then if you interviewed as early as 9/23.

Thanks. I think that their committee only meets once a month, though, so if we didn't find out yesterday, it's possible we won't get our decisions for another month (which would put us into mid-November).

Hey Chad,

I called the other day - Mr. Reynolds said that if you interviewed after 9/18 you would find out in Nov because the adcom only meets once at the beginning of the month. I am also thinking thanksgiving is conservative, but better they overestimate than under, right?
