Maybe they're planning on adding some interview dates later in the season? I'm just completely baffled as to why they're offering interviews to so many applicants so early in the season.

that makes me really worried, is there anything i could do to improve my chances?

Since you already have the "MAY" message (which occurs after your file's been reviewed), probably not. At this point you have a pre-interview priority score, and they just go down the list and invite the next person. If you're really intent on attending the school you could call or email Dr. Whitehurst-Cook and talk to her. She's incredibly nice and helpful.

Send a letter of interest. I seriously doubt I would have gotten an interview if I didn't.

So is this true that VCU interviews almost everyone with "we are interested in your candidacy" message? I got it on Oct. 15th...but haven't heard from school since then...do you think sending them a letter of interest would help at all?

The last day they had was March 4th. There are about 12 interview days left right now... or maybe 11, cuz I might have taken the last Feb 4th spot...

While the earliest interview they may have offered you is in Feb/March, don't think that those are the earliest interview days available. The days they offer you an interview are based upon your priority score. So if you have a 3.5 and someone else has a 1, they maybe offer them an interview in November and you one in February.

Yeah, I was also unsure about only 12 interview dates left...it seems like there are a lot of applicants out there who were just recently informed of committee's intentions to interview them... plus it's still early in the interview season, and some potentially attractive candidates haven't even submitted their secondaries, so your explanation that interviews are given based on the priority score sounds more realistic than there're only a few interview dates and spots left...

what's the best email address to send a letter of update to ?

Thank you for basically telling me that I suck!🙁

Nah, that's not the case, the school is probably just looking for fit! Heck, I would love to suck as much as you if it would bring me 15 interviews (jealousy fills the room)!

Hehe, this has gotta be one of the funniest comments ever.

Well you do son. Stop crying with an acceptance in hand. 👍

It was slightly in jest... sheesh, some people cannot take a joke...

At least you have an interview. I am OOS with the "May" message and no news as of yet.

how long does vcu take to review apps? i have been complete with 2ndary and lors since 8/25. i haven't heard anything. no updates on status page. i called on thursday and was told that the committee was approaching my app. date very soon. i should hear in 1-2 weeks. has anyone else not seen any updates on status page and submitted their app. around late august?

I am OOS by the way.

even more tortuous is the second class "MAY" message. which is like "eh, i guess you're ok. we won't reject you yet, because maybe we will get kind of desperate later, so we'll just string you along until we realize we don't want you anymore"

humph. 🙁

Lordy, I guess that I am in for a long wait then. I was complete around the middle of September and my page has not had any updates either. Looks like I am in for a much longer wait.

yup i was complete 8/15...still nothing just says file complete, I'm OOS

I'm starting to get a bit confused with all of the status update messages. 😕 Where does this fall in? (Received about 10 days ago).

"The Committee's file review indicates that they are very interested in your candidacy. There is another increase in the applicant pool this year, but we are trying to get all candidates at your priority score interviewed as soon as possible. Please watch for an e-mail from us regarding a possible interview date. "

That is supposedly the best status update you can receive. I would think you should get an interview invite soon.

Thats the one I got months ago and its the best one! I got a interview invite quickly, and I got accepted on October the 15th. Yaaa VCU😍

does anyone know when VCU stops giving interviews. i got the MAY hold message 10/13 and i am really hoping for an interview?

last interview is generally in late february/early march.

Maybe they're planning on adding some interview dates later in the season? I'm just completely baffled as to why they're offering interviews to so many applicants so early in the season.

People will cancel their interview and interviewers will realize when their schedule is open, which will also open up some slots.

In the past, if you got an interview the computer offered you the earliest date available. Perhaps that has changed...

YESSSSS I actually got an interview from here! So much sweeter after getting two post interview waitlists. On hold since early september so there is hope...and I didn't even get the MAY message just the "interest" status. So there is hope people, just hold on tight. I was offered a late interview in mid February.

i believe what's happening at vcu is that they are reviewing the people who placed on 'hold' and 'interested' categories. When I called last week, the lady at the office told me that there were slots open for all months, even october.
I am sure they have dates reserved for next cycle of applicants (such as people who were complete in august and September).

btw, I have been complete since august and i haven't heard anything. no status updates. that better change soon. I am really hope that I get an interview from vcu.

I am pretty certain that this is still true. I don't think priority scores matter once you are invited to interview. It's more the case of how fast you log on and choose your interview date and time.

i was under the impression that there was only one may message. i know that the 'very interested' is the best one. is this the second best: The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail. ?

you guys are referring to the same message.

I'm almost positive that isn't true. I had two dates in December available plus some in February and March. So unless all the dates from the middle of December through January have already been taken, interviews are available on a first come first serve basis.

Whoops, I must be mistaken! Sorry for the confusion, this is just what I was told from someone who is a med student there.

Hey I've got a VCU interview coming up and I'm trying to understand these 'priority scores' that everyone is talking about. Is it the sort of thing where, once you receive an interview, they think you have competitive numbers to get in? I just have a really low GPA (too low to post), and I am afraid that it is going to kill me no matter how well I perform during the interview. Are there different priority scores (e.g. one for GPA, one for MCAT, one for interview, etc.)? I might be overthinking this, but the pre-med in me just won't let it go! Thanks in advance.

At the admissions committee meeting, two people will present your file to the rest of the group (the interviewer first, and the file reviewer second). Your file is projected on the wall for the entire committee to see. Each member of the committee will rank your file from 1 to 5 (1 is the most desirable, 5 is the least desirable) on a scan tron sheet. At the end of the meeting, the scan trons are scanned and the highest and lowest scores for each applicant are dropped. The remaining scores are averaged, and that is your post-interview priority score. Thus, although you have a lower GPA, if other factors (MCAT, ECs, interview, etc.) overshadow that, you are likely to receive a good priority score anyway. If you've been invited for an interview, they've already deemed you academically qualified for acceptance. Now they just need to meet you in person to see if you're a good fit for the school.

Best of luck, and try not to stress too much! :luck: VCU is so friendly!

That's the better message. The subcommittee says that they have some reservations about your application and a subcommittee will review your file before a final decision is made. So apparently there is hope for you even if you get that message!

Oh really, bc I got that message and I dont think I'm getting anything from VCU.

I had one of the messages (the "interest" one I believe) for about a month, got my interview invite this week. Don't lose hope!

I am IS, 31/3.4 GPA, and haven't heard ANYTHING from them since I was complete september 9th. In fact, all the status page says is "your file is complete and waiting for your august MCAT scores"... I also sent them an update email a few weeks ago, which wasn't responded to... I'm guessing this isn't a good sign, anyone have any ideas?

Call the office to let them know of your new MCAT score. Or else try to send a message through the secondary system (I did this and they responded within 24 hours).

What if anything has anyone heard about an early in-state interview (early September) but not getting accepted on the Oct 15th date? Are prospects good for the Dec 15th date or is this likely going to be a wait out until March thing.

I called this morning to check on my file status, and was told that they are still reviewing it. Although this message was just posted to my account:

The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken.

So, after going back and reading the entire thread, it looks like this is a not so promising hold message. I am in state and have a 3.3/31R

What are my chances of getting an interview?

It is a promising hold message. I had it and I got an interview. I know how hard it is to be patient, but that is a good hold message!

wait.. i thought that was the bad hold message ? i have that one too, and people made it seem as though it's basically hopeless and it's basically a rejection.

Hmm...no more student discounted rooms at the Marriott for my dates. Where else are you guys staying?

the double tree is 115.00 for students/ or people affiliated with the school , and they also have a shuttle that takes you to MCV.

oh hmm...ok, i must have gotten it confused with the 'may' message because of the 'would like to consider your file further' in the first sentence. All these messages are just confusing. To clear up any confusion on my part, I had the 'may' message and got the invite about 1.5 months later.

Don't lose hope, I got your message about a month ago, received interview a couple of week later.
