just received an update with the may message, we'll see what happens

i think i have lost hope for VCU ... they have started to schedule into march is what i have heard and that is the end of their interview season 🙁 i really really wanted to go at least visit the school, i heard some wicked things about it

I have a Feb interview, but with cancellations, people who were offered after me received Dec/Jan interviews... Keep your fingers crossed!

thanks for the encouragement, my fingers are still crossed. haha :xf: but with all the 'very interested' messages that might still be going out, i think i have a low chance of getting an interview invite. especially since i am oos. but i guess you never know right, until that scary thin envelope arrives in you mailbox. then it's okay to freak 😱 out

😱 I just saw from your MDapps that you were complete on 9/15, and you just received the "MAY" message? I guess I have some more waiting to do . . . I have been complete for a month now and thought it was about time for me to be getting one of these messages. *Sigh*

lol...i wouldn't put too much faith in the timeline thing, it seems to be thrown up in the air quite often here on sdn...everything goes bass ackwards it seems like

Anybody who interviewed Dec. 3rd get the hold message, and does that message always precede acceptance/rejection? Is there ANY possiblity of hearing news on Dec. 15th for us?

If you've got the post-interview hold message it means you were reviewed and were not rejected so you could possibly be accepted next week. If you don't have the message, the best way to find out if you were reviewed yet is to call the admissions office. Good luck.:luck:

OK, so I called the admissions office today after interviewing on the 18 of Nov and they said I will be in the running for the Dec 15th decisions. However, I have not received any status change yet... only the survey message and when I called they admissions office told me they could not give me any info about my standing of course but they lady said "If you don't receive the answer you want this time you are up for each later acceptance date also". Does she know if I've been accepted or not? Or does she just know my score? I thought I had a good shot and was looking forward to a hopeful acceptance next monday but she has me worried... Anyone know what this is about?

She can look at your file and know that they've scored you, but probably doesn't know if you will be accepted on Monday or not. They don't mark people as "accepted" or "wait" they just give a score to everyone and accept a certain number of people from the top of the list each round of acceptances. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Just play the waiting game until next week and see what happens.

wow, so after all my crap talking, i got an interview invite today!!! yay. and there are interview days in jan, feb, march. good luck to all those waiting!!

So did I!

Does anyone know if the interview dates disappear if we wait to schedule?

Yes interview dates change the longer you wait. Scheduling seems to be first-come first-serve.

HAHA

I thought I would never get off of that waitlist.

I got an interview invite today!!

Congratz to everyone else that did too. That was like 2.5 months on that list

Also got an interview invite. Yay, to saying goodbye to the dry interview spout. Now if I can only land an acceptance, anywhere and hopefully soon. YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!! My sister's bf goes to VCU and he loves it there. So stoked!

Hahaha, hmmph, well maybe I should start talking some crap then...

Don't lose hope! I am gonna withdraw from my interview invite, so that should free up a spot for someone who is waiting.

I just received "The committee's file review indicates that they would like to consider your file further. We are now in the process of scheduling interviews and will continue to do so through February. Unfortunately, the committee indicates interest in far more candidates than we are able to interview. Since we are dependent on the Committee member's schedules for interview spaces, we are unable to predict when or if we will be able to schedule you this year. Please continue to check this site to learn when further action has been taken."

Is this the favorable or unfavorable hold message?

I think that I will give up my interview spot too. I am kinda sad because I really would have gone to VCU had I not gotten into USC (Keck school of medicine).

What do you all think?

when are y'alls interview scheduled for. can you guys pm me if you guys do withdraw

sandkonbest. usc seems like a really good medical school from what i have heard. any reason you would go to VCU over USC, if so check it out. if not, save that money, time etc.

For those of you awaiting December 15 decisions...will we have to hold out until Monday for the status page to change? Because I know that they usually update their system on Fridays...

Don't worry too much. I received my acceptance without first getting the "you have been reviewed" message.

Actually they update their system every day at 6:04 pm. I received my interview invite on a Saturday and my acceptance on a Wednesday.

omg all the feb ones have gone too ... what the hell!!!! i didn't know things went so fast.

FINALLY an interview! complete 9/15 or thereabouts, got the "review file further" message until last night, when I got the invitation!! not until March 3, but I can handle that.

not something us pre-interviewees want to hear! lol thats definitelyyyyy not a good signnn.. :scared::scared::scared:

I wouldn't worry about this. I think they release a group of interview slots when they invite a batch to interview. So, those who schedule first take the first spots. Once they invite another batch of people to interview, I'll bet there will be more spots offered in Jan/Feb.

I got an interview invite last night after receiving a MAY message about 6 weeks ago.

Gives the rest of us some hope! good luck and keeping my fingers crossed. Can anyone else post how long it was between getting the may message and the invite? i got the may message 10 days ago...

Congratulations everyone who got an interview invite recently. I interviewed there earlier this week and Dr. WC said initially (I guess the first half of the interview period) they offered a lot more interview spots to in-states. However, I think out of states should receive more invites if they haven't already, because she said they are interviewing more people this year than ever.

They have had a huge increase in the number of out of state applicants this year (don't remember exactly but she said somewhere around mid 5k). Considering they take abt 45% oos maybe the reason behind it. So don't loose hope and hang in there! and good luck everyone!

Anyone think that the different status "hold" messages they give out are just for different types of applicants they want to interview. It seems like the "MAY" message is no worse/better than the "file further" message.

Hmmmph.

By the way, I want an interview here. Virginia is beautiful.

For all you pre-December interviewees:

DECEMBER 15th is right around the corner!!!!

Good luck!

Yes, if you get an email Monday at 6:00 pm EST indicating that your status changed, then it means that you've been accepted. If not, then you'll have to wait a bit longer.

Actually the email comes at 6:04 pm EST. I don't want anyone to sweat if they don't get something at precisely 6:00 pm.

doesn't the email state that ur status has changed in the past 24 hours?, so the status change can happen at anytime during the day before 6?

 It's usually my job to point out this crazy little detail. I can't tell you how many days I ran to check my email when I was waitlisted 2 summers ago.

From my experience anyway, the online status did not change until about the same time the email went out. I knew I was accepted that morning because I had been emailing back and forth with Dr. WC all summer and she told me personally, but I checked online off/on all day waiting for the system to update (I wouldn't believe it until it was official) and nothing changed until I got the email.

Good luck everyone. I know the waiting game can be frustrating.:luck:

could you get a status change message and be rejected?

could you get a status change message and be rejected?

If they reviewed you and rejected you, you should already have received a rejection status update. So if you've received the update that tells you the acceptance dates post-interview (the one that basically just confirms you've been reviewed) you should be safe from rejection tomorrow. The only acceptance day that I know of where it is possible (but not common) to get a rejection is on March 15th-they sometimes cut down the number of students as they form the waitlist.

ok now i am a little worried that I will not get any news tomorrow. I have not received an update telling me the acceptance dates. I only got an update to fill out the survey. So now I don't know if I've been reviewed. I am assuming I have been since my interview was in November.

To those who are waiting for news, did you all recieve an update saying that your file has bee reviewed?

btw, thanks for the info nka1985

hey mz10, I interviewed in early November also, received the survey status the day after the interview, and received the acceptance date update 2 weeks after my interview day. Maybe your interviewer didnt take you to review yet, since it is dependent on each individual to take you to committee? Or maybe its just a glitch? Either way hope you get good news tomorrow!

!!!!:scared:

Why wouldn't my interviewer take me to the committee? Can they just hold off on people that they have interviewed without even presenting them to the committee? Wouldn't it be better to just make a decision? This is strange and a bit of a bummer. I was hoping for some sort of news tomorrow.

thanks for the info flscribe. good luck to you

Last year I interviewed on the 5th of December, and they reviewed me sometime in January, yet the update from the survey to "you have been reviewed" happened the day before I received my acceptance.

So sometimes they get a bit behind on entering that status update... that may be what's happened to you.

Oh wait, I'm a dork. This post explains that you don't need to have the "reviewed" message to get an answer. So anyone who read my posts and is in the same boat...there is still hope we may find out some news tomorrow

oh thanks for the info chimpanzee... I just saw it.
