11/18. I liked the school. Don't know why it has such a bad reputation on SDN. But one interviewer was difficult, the other relaxed.
what is the bad reputation you are talking about? I really like to know....

Don't want to stir up stuff, but if you really want to know: click on the interview feedback on top, or search past Albany threads -- there are certainly some negative things. I don't know, though; I would love to go to Albany; the students were enthusiastic, the faculty dedicated.

The interviews are really hit or miss--which makes me happy because I had a really awesome interview there last week 🙂

Rejected post interview today and I thought my interview went so well.... oh well have other schools to worry about. I interviewed on November 12th.

dang it. post-interview rejection. I though my interview was decent also.

Post interview rejection via email. Interviewed Oct 29...man if Albany doesn't want me then who will?

yikes; when I called them they said they "hoped acceptances would be sent out starting sometime this week".

Good luck at all your other schools for you guys who didn't hear good news :\ maybe Albany just wasn't a good fit?

Rejected post-interview as well.
Not to sad about this one though. I have been accepted to two schools that I would much rather go to. Albany was probably my worst interview experience. I got this guy who went on this weird tangent about government conspiracy theories. Also the anatomy lab looks like a parking garage. Oh and my tour guides were pretty toolish. Maybe thats the norm for people in upstate New York, but gelled up fohawks and saying bro in every sentence is not really my style. Not to mention my cab driver charged me 60 dollars, and on the way back it was 25 😕. Anyway, I hate to rip on a school, so I'll say this, if it was the only school I got accepted to, I would attend in a heartbeat. However, I would have to join the ranks of the unimpressed.

oh and I forgot about this. My other interviewer was a resident and said that money isn't everything and that people get into medicine for all the wrong reasons. Which I agree 100% with, but then he went on to describe his brand new car and that his residency was one of the highest paying..

I don't know. I would have loved to go to Albany. It''s weird how so many people went on "under consideration" category last year, but this year...nope.

Ya, I would love to go there if it was the only school I was accepted too. Oh, and if it was close to home. Besides that though, I can't really think of anything that really seemed like a strong point.

i was put under consideration today.. does anyoen know how likely it is to get an acceptance after that.. or is it basically a rejection..

I lol'd when I read that:roflcopter:. Interviewed 10/16, no news from this school Wakka wakka wakka :corny::shrug::ninja::corny:

has anyone ever taken the Amtrak train from Rochester to Albany? I'd rather not drive 4 hours in the snow.

I took Amtrak to get to Albany the day before my interview and had a friend pick me up. It worked out fine.

withdrawing my interview tomorrow morning via fax - hope one of you gets it!

it was on 1/7/2010, if someone wants to scoop it up tomorrow afternoon.

UC email today. Interviewed 10/25 or so.

Under consideration, interviewed 9/24

complete in august. no news. does that screw the order : )

It says in the email that people will be put on a list of alternates once they have accepted all those who will be filling the class. From last years thread it seems that this began around 4-01-09. It all really depends on the class, your rank, who decides to come, etc. Also, although it seems sort of interested that according to last years thread they were accepting poeple off the UC list while they were still interviewing people.
I wish Albany accepted updated files/letters but from what I remember on interview date it seemed like this score was set in stone and interviewing early didn't play a factor. I guess just wait and see at this point!!
Fingers crossed we hear something sooner rather than later!
I also think Albany accepts a number of people off their waitlist but who knows.

If I recall correctly, at my interview the admissions staff said the number accepted off the waitlist can vary greatly year to year. In recent years this has ranged from 0 to 30 people.

So UC isn't the waitlist then? It's "better"?

under consideration today. interviewed 9/29

One of the student's at my interview said 3 the year before last, 45 last year (of 90). I'm not sure I believe this though. That means 87 of 90 accepted their acceptance? No school has anything near that kind of acceptance to matriculation ratio. So my guess is they're also accepting people off the UC list and not calling it the waitlist. This is arbitrary nonsense, only the ranking matters.

And people were definitely accepted off the list in early April while Albany was still sending out interview invites. But again, that's meaningless to any of us because all that matters is our rank, which we don't know.

Not exactly. If they "accept" 150 students, and 87 say yes while 63 say no, then they could take 3 people off the waitlist. Hypothetically...

Every school accepts way more than they actually have room for, fully expecting that many people will say no.

does anyone know about how many acceptances amc typically gives out out of the 550 they interview?

Just recieved an email saying that they will no longer be considering me for an interview. Here's hoping for other schools

I think it's around 150, but I don't know if that's including the UC list and waitlist. I asked this before but no one seems to know.

They said at my interview that 90 are accepted initially and 90 were waitlisted. Of that 90, 45 were accepted. That would make the total acceptances about 135 last year, which would fit with the figure I found on some random website that I can't find anymore. If a kind person owns the MSAR I think that information would be in it.

So UC isn't the waitlist then? It's "better"?

I don't think it means it's "better" per se. I just think that their system means that while they're still interviewing people in March/April they can start pulling people of this list if they feel that these individuals they UCed are better candidates than those currently being interviewed at that point. They said the "wait list" isn't formulated until May/Juneish so at that point it would take someone who had said yes to AMC to get off the waitlist at another school during the summer for movement within the class to occur. This was my understanding from interview day.
Hope that helps/makes sense?!

Here's the way I understand it:

After you do your interview and the admissions committee meets you get a score. That score is unchanging. What does change over time is the cutoff score for acceptance. So as the interview season goes on, the cutoff may go down in order to fill the class. If your score was below the initial cutoff but ends up above some later cutoff, you are then offered an acceptance. This is why interviewing in March/April still gives you a shot, because if you come in above the cutoff you still get an acceptance offer. Every interview is for a seat in the class.

I'm sorry to hear. Just wondering if you don't mind, were your put on hold prior to this, or is this the first status you've heard? I've been sitting on hold for a while...

Just received an interview invitation after having previously received the "we'll review your file after the new year" message.

I'm probably withdrawing so I hope my spot goes to one of you all!

Just received interview after the "after new year" email. Very surprising.

Okay, this is weird.

I received a complete email from Albany on 11/9 AND then got this one this afternoon:

"As you evaluate your multiple options in pursuing your career as a
physician, we would like you to consider Albany Medical College.
Your background indicates that you possess the drive and passion to
be successful and along with the proper necessary credentials could
be a great fit for AMC. While we have received your AMCAS
application, we have not yet received your AMC supplemental
application. The deadline for submission is January 15, 2010."

Anyone get this? Or, is this a a computer glitch from their part?

LOL. I don't know, you should definitely call them to see what's up.

Put on hold 🙁 Oh well.. it was a long shot anyways! Good luck to the rest of you guys!

Accepted exactly one week after interview in late Nov. Actually really liked the school, great vibe from students and faculty.

Complete early Sept, invite late Oct.

Interview is very important at Albany. They want people who are truly dedicated to medicine and what it means as a profession, career, and social service (why they're known to be brutal during interviews). Highly recommend you think hard about why you think medicine is important. Good luck on your interview! I still need it for all my other apps.

Thanks, you give me hope. Good luck on rest of your interviews.

My app was completed in mid-september and I have not heard anything from Albany yet. What does this mean? Is this generally a good thing?
