One more question - When does first year start at Emory? I read somewhere that it starts in mid-July (like July 13th or something). This is kind of an issue for me...long story...but just wondering. i really hope that's not true!

No problem, I had just gotten an email from them saying that they received my acceptance statement of intent. On that email there was a little timeline of events.

🙁 I havent heard anything yet.... the mail takes real long to arrive... can take between 2 weeks to 8 weeks (my UCSF rejection has not arrived LOL)

:xf:for everyone who's waiting to hear back about acceptances.

It is so hard to tell what the admissions committee thinks of you. I thought I had some great interviews but then I ended up on waitlists 😕

For all you accepted people, who thinks they will actually come to Emory? I am probably 80% certain I will come to Emory. The cost of attendance is pretty high and that is really the only thing holding me back right now. Besides that I loved the area, the curriculum, Grady, and have family in the area.

Does anyone know if all the interview slots been filled up until February? I would love to get an invite from Emory!! :xf: :xf:

I'm about 90% sure I'll end at Emory. I LOVED it!

I *loved* Emory too but I don't feel like I did well during the interview. I was just too nervous... sigh. I'll keep my fingers crossed but this would be my top choice if I got accepted.

Yeah, I'd like one as well. I've heard nothing but great things about this school and would like to check it out, despite the high price tag. Here's to hoping.

I doubt it. If memory serves me correctly, Emory was one of the last schools to even release their secondary. There's still ample time left to receive an invite!

As of right now, it's in my top 2, I'm probably going to need a second look to decide.

I interviewed here on Monday but came on Saturday to stay with a friend. This is an AMAZING school! In the words of Kanye, Emory is one of the best schools of ALL time!

Harvard is good too, but Emory is one of the best schools of all time.

What makes you say/think that?
Someone asked June during our day and she answered like they didn't have anything planned. My student host said last year's was very rushed and not organized, because of big changes they were making in their admissions staff.

Also looking for more information on whether any interviews are available still.
Completed 11/04! Am I screwed?

During the interview they said that they probably would not have a second look weekend because of the economy.
yea they used to do a second look weekend when the class was smaller...we were told that it is just to expensive now 😛

And I agree Emory is one of the best Medical schools of all time!

interview invite! took forevvvver, maybe bc i applied md/mph?

and the date i was given was 1/11, but i had to change it to 1/25. so they seem to have a decent number of openings in january.

haha congrats- how long do you mean by forever?

I just got an acceptance to Emory USOM and will certainly be attending. I live in Atlanta and the letter was dated Dec 18. I interviewed in October.

congrats though! love emory!

acceptance! interviewed mid oct. will most likely attend!
i don't know what else to say, but praise God!

anyone else hear anything? especially anyone who interviewed in november?

Can anyone who has received an interview invite recently say when it is for? I just want to get a feel for how far into the schedule they are right now, since they interview through the end of Feb.

Hey guys I could use some advice.

I interviewed at the end of October and I just got my letter of acceptance today. However the letter is dated November 20, 2009 and I am required to respond to it within two weeks. Now I check my mail almost everyday so I'm hoping it is just a typo. But the admissions office is closed until Jan 4th so I'm kinda out of luck until then. I will mail my letter of intention tomorrow and I guess email Dr. Schwartz and Faith Levy. Anybody in the same boat or have any suggestions?

Thanks

Was it postmarked in the past week or was it postmarked in November?

It's probably just a typo because Nov. 20th was the date from their November round of acceptances.

And even in the unlikely scenario that it took the mail 4 weeks to get to you (you should really get that checked out!), I'm sure they'll understand if you explain it in an email

You will be fine man, just email them and send out the letter tomorrow. They wont revoke your acceptance just because the mail is slow.

Also, one of the admissions people on the interview day told us that if you don't respond within two weeks, they just call to check in with you in the event that you might've not gotten the letter or something. And that if you don't send it within the 2 week time period, it's not gonna strike your admission or anything. So especially if you never received a call from them, then it's almost certain it's a typo or perhaps some mistake on their part (i.e. they accepted you during the first meeting but your letter got misplaced when they sent out the first batch). Bottom line, relax, breathe easy, and congratulations.

It's probably just a typo because Nov. 20th was the date from their November round of acceptances.
Since all three of the recent acceptances were given to people who interviewed in October, in time to be reviewed at the November committee meeting, I'd venture a guess that they were accepted during last month's meeting but Emory didn't mail their acceptance envelope until recently, for whatever reason. As you can see in this post, someone who was notified of their acceptance by phone right after the committee met on November 19th hadn't received their envelope yet, despite living on the same campus.

If Emory decided to accept people in November but didn't mail out decisions, if you never received a call from one of the committee members, you'd have had no idea. That would also explain why people got letters before 12/22, when Emory said they'd mail out this month's acceptances. Just my guess.

Thanks for the reassurances,

It's just weird since the date on the letter is November 20 and it says in bold to reply within two weeks. The envelope itself doesn't have a postal date, which would come in handy to check to see when the packet was actually mailed out. Also I noticed that Emory doesn't require a monetary deposit to hold a place, which is a nice change.

But whatever I'll just have to go out drinking and celebrate until the admissions office opens back up in January and give them a call.

Yeah, I just saw this post, which makes me think that it wasn't a typo and that there was some sort of hold up like you described. Since that person had a letter dated Dec. 18th, it sort of rules out the possibility that all the December acceptances accidentally had a November date on their acceptance letter.

Although, based off that same post, I think that means that December acceptances did go out already (since his letter was dated the date that the December committee would have met). Although...it could take some people a month to get the letter.
It depends on what he meant was dated. If the actual acceptance letter itself was dated 12/18, then yeah, I think it'd mean December acceptances had gone out. If that was when the envelope was post-marked, however, then maybe he's one of the November hold-ups (especially since he would've been reviewed during their 11/9 meeting). Who knows.

Yeah, but as craustin mentioned, there was no actual date marked on the envelope. I looked at mine and I guess I didn't realize it before, but it doesn't have one either
There's no postmark? I don't really know much about the mail system, but how does that even work? For some reason I thought craustin was an Emory undergrad, I have no idea why.

so...does any one have any theories of whether any Dec interviewees were decided upon at the last meeting? So far I've seen only Oct/Nov people getting letters last week. Maybe they are backed up and haven't gotten the chance to look at us December-babies? That would suck though...cause the next set gets mailed in Feb. 🙁

I interviewed at the end of November (around the 20th) and got an acceptance last week. There was no postmark, but it got to DC by the 22nd.....

Ok so I emailed the admissions office last night and they got back to me today. They said that I was actually admitted before Thanksgiving and that they were sorry that I didn't get my letter until now, but not to fret about the two week deadline or anything. They implied that it was sent out on-time, so I don't really know what the hold up was. The zip code was one digit off, which may have been the problem, but I can't see that being the reason it was over a month late.

When I took my letter of intent to the post office to send out I asked them if they could look at the envelope and tell me when it went out from Emory, but they said that there was no way to do that due to whatever type of postage they use.

Whatever the reason was, I'm just happy to be accepted. Good luck to everyone else and I guess just be patient.
