Yeah i just checked and i am on hold. I am guessing that means I probably won't hear back from them. Do you think a letter of interest would do anything?

Send it, but I doubt it will make much of a difference.

Received an email today for an interview invite for 1/26...

Anybody else interviewing on this day...

Really look forward to going, GW is my top choice...

Congrats! Were you previously on hold? Best wishes for your interview!

Don't give up hope yet. I was put on hold in early November and I got an interview invite yesterday for 1/22. So there is still a chance.

Thanks for the encouragement. Guess I will just keep checking my email (not like I don't do that obsessively anyway... 🙂) Good luck on your interviews, let us know how it goes!

Hey guys,

I just received an email for an interview invite for Jan 28th (Thurs). Anyone else has it on the same day?

For those who already interviewed... What is the best way to get there (I'm coming from Philadelphia)? Thanks!

Congrats. When were you complete?

Hi guys! Wow, I can't believe it has been a year since I was in shoe, applying to medical school. A short blurb about myself: I am a first year at GW. Feel free to ask me any questions and I will try to answer them. Good luck!!

I'm studying for my first block exams...so it might take me awhile to get back to you.

Hi,
I have my interview on Jan 28th! Just wondering how bad the parking situation is there? Does the med school have a parking lot available for interviewees or its just street parking? Also, how can I find a student host?
Any tips for travel/stay would be MUCH appreciated! I'm coming from Philly.

I was invited off the hold after a 4.5 month wait. Don't give up hope. I would recommend just sending in updates or what not (if things have changed).

I just had my interview last week, it was really nice!

Hi alibai3ah,

I am schedule for an interview Jan 28th. I see you already interviewed here and had a positive experience. Any advice for the day regarding travel (from Philly) and stay? Did you have a student host and if yea, how do I go about that? Is driving a terrible idea (parking wise)?

Thanks a bunch!

Hey,

My interview is 2 days after yours! How are you planning your travel/stay? I'll be coming from Philly. Do you plan to drive/use a student host? Theres so much to think about upon getting an invite!!!

Congrats on the interview.

I would highly recommend the Best Western at Iwo Jima. It's very cheap compared to other places in DC. It's only one metro stop away from the GWU/Foggy Bottom Station. It should only take 10 minutes to go between stops.

The Best Western also has a parking lot if you were driving over. I would recommend driving to DC and leaving your car at the Best Western parking lot. But just taking the metro from the Rosslyn Station (where Best Western is) to the GWU/Foggy Bottom Station. The metro station stops right near the building you will interview at.

Again I didn't have a student host, b/c i stayed at the Best Western. It's up to you. I prefer the comfort of my own hotel so I didn't do that.

The interviews are very laid back. They are blind so they don't know anything about you. The questions are general as well (look at the interview feedback forum). Anyways hope that helps, good luck

I'm not sure that I want to interview here and I need to decide soon so I can give another applicant adequate time to jump in.

I'm local so travel costs aren't a concern for me, but it does mean missing a day of classes. The price tag is high (CoA = $70k) and the hospital doesn't look that big, but students are sent to Washington Hospital Center, correct? The student lounge was a recent addition, but the classrooms didn't appear all that modern.

What were your impressions of the school? During a short visit a few months back, the students didn't seem thrilled to be there and I hope it was a fluke.

I think it depends a lot on where else you have been accepted. This is a good school for clinically-oriented applicants. I actually enjoyed myself during the interview and was impressed by the facilities and simulation lab. If you live in DC, it really can't hurt to check it out (I would just in case you like it here and theres no really added expense)

Some students do seem to have mixed opinion about this school. I think many were still disappointed by the bad press that GWU got following the probation. And the curriculum in my opinion seems a little old-fashioned. That's just my opinion though.

I had the same impression about the hospital that you did. It is small, but it is also quite new and has some good facilities for students inside. Overall not too impressed by the hospital compared to some of the other schools I have interviewed at.

If biomedical research is something that is important to you, you might be better served at a school that focuses more on that. There is research at GW, but it's not a high priority. On the other hand, GW has really good programs in health policy, and the opportunities in DC and students' participation in them were emphasized much more at GW than when I was at Georgetown. GW also has one of the best MPHs around, to my understanding.

Overall, I did like GW, but I wasn't "blown away." After reflection, I think I liked the location and opportunities in DC more than the school itself. If you really think there's very little chance you'll end up there, you could give up the interview spot. But on the other hand, you earned the spot 100% and you don't owe it to a single other person, so if you're just curious and would regret not seeing the place close-up, go for it.

Edit: alibai3ah is right about the curriculum. Totally outdated and needs to be renovated asap

Hey guys,
The parking in DC is really tough. It takes a long time to find parking and public parking costs like $7/hour. They have a good metro system that drops you right off close to Ross Hall where you'll be interviewing. Good luck everyone!!!

For those of you who interviewed at GW already, does the admissions office have a place for us to store our bags during the interview day? Thanks!

Nevermind, I just cancelled my interview!!!! Hope they extend my invitation to one of you instead!! 🙂

waitlisted today via email (for the 2nd year in a row) 8 weeks to the day after my interview.

(so much easier to take with another acceptance)

Selected as an alternate... Sad I wasn't accepted, but glad I wasn't rejected...

Interview: 11/20

Does anyone know what the chances of being accepted are after being waitlisted at GW?

I would assume there is a fair amount of waitlisted movement at GWU once people get accepted to their state schools.

Congratulations Purkinje123! I thought they send responses via mail. So does GWU email or mail acceptances now?

Yeah - I was really surprised to get the news via email, but I did! They said an acceptance packet is on its way to me in the mail.

I pray every night for this... wait listed a few months back and top choice.....just stinks about the May-June-July notifcation as I have already accepted acceptance to an Israeli school that begins July.

Wow. Was placed on hold in November. Figured that meant rejection but I guess not. Interview invite today.

Keep praying. They work! They did for me. I got into one of my favs that way.

I would advise showing lots of interest through letters/updates....GWU really loves that stuff. And the only reason I even got an interview was because of my letter of interest (I think)

How often did you send letters? I have been complete since late Sept, on hold for a while now, and just sent in an update/interest letter around the new year....
If I still haven't heard anything, should I send another in February?

If u sent one already I would wait a bit. You don't want to be pushy. But in ur letters make sure to include why you wanna go there (specifics) and what they would gain by taking you in. My letter was fairly long and detailed explaining everything. Again I don't know how much of a difference they make but it can't hurt. Good luck!

Just took a peek at the class schedule. I'm a little surprised that students have class pretty much all day. Most of the schools I've interviewed at only have class 8-12 with some labs or group discussions in the afternoons a couple days a week. Anyone know if GW doesn't require attendance and at least posts lectures online?

So for those who have already been accepted. Did you guys send in Letters of Interest after the interview or you just wait?

Does anyone know what the chances of getting into GW are after being granted an interview?

Thanks!!!

Are you going to GW for sure, alibai?

Well I haven't been accepted at GWU yet (I interviewed last month and haven't heard back). So I'm not sure. I have gotten into other schools (one that I really like), but I'm gonna wait for financial aid.

Did you send the letter of interest to the admissions office? I'm thinking about doing this. I've been on hold for awhile here.

Interviewed on 11/13 and this status was posted today "
Correspondence concerning the status of your application has been sent to you via postal mail to your preferred mailing address on file with AMCAS.

looks like a rejection?

Hey, I interviewed at GWU on 10/27 and was accepted 11/13. For the others of you who have also been accepted and posted on this thread, do you know if there is any google, facebook, sdn, etc. group established to start meeting fellow classmates? Thanks for the help

May I ask why you assume that? Whats the normal means of acceptance? :luck: Anyone care to clarify with this assumption?

Believe it or not, this is my first visit to the city of Washington D.C.
Thus, I want to make the most of my stay there. My interview is on Thursday morning, so I'm arriving there Wed afternoon and staying the night. However, I also want to explore the city after my interview day on Thursday. From what I hear, the city is quite walkable! Are the white house, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial all walking distance from GW Med? Are there any must-see's... your recommendations? Thanks man!

I walked to the white house after my interview. and it took me no more than 15 minutes to walk there. The Washington monument is right behind it and the washington mall with all the museums. If you can find a map you will see how clse everything is. If you stay in a hotel they should have city maps.
