Anyone figure out a cheap place to stay near the end of march? Never been to DC and not sure where to stay that is not going to cost me an arm and a leg. I think 150 is my max and i'd rather be comfortable than anything.

Best Western in Iwo Jima. It's actually in VA, but only one train stop away from Foggy Bottom (GW Med). It was about $120/night. Very comfy with gym, heated pool, and a restaurant next doors. Good luck!

waitlisted from my only interview. what do you plan on doing?

I'm kind of debating what i should do, and thinking about retaking the mcat in case I need to reapply cuz this time i want to get my apps in early (lateness is a major reason i dind't get many interviews this year).

anyone in a similar situation?

what happens if you hear back from the waitlist after you already apply, can you reject the offer without gw holding it against you in the next cycle?

i just feel like if i find something worthwhile to do next year and go through the trouble of reapplying and retaking mcats and hear back afterwards, I'd rather see where else I can get in since gw is sort of pricey and I'd probably rather go to my state school.

and sorry for those of you who got that weird email - honestly I almost feel like maybe gw is just looking at filling spots instead of outright rejecting people and they'll just take anyone who is willing to pay for tuition, which is why they don't want to outright reject anyone (at least i haven't heard of many rejections from gw) they need to man up and tell us the truth. waiting even longer after already waiting this long is sort of ridiculous considering the amount of people who got the email. i know lots of schools waitlist so i'm not hatin cuz I was waitlisted, i just don't agree with waitlisting this many people (I haven't heard of any rejections either)... or sending out weird emails to students that they won't interview and giving out hope that they may be interviewed.

You can do this if you have a pretty good reason... you dont have to reject it... you could try to defer but then reject if they cant accomodate you.

here's a question for those of you who sent in a letter of interest post-interview:

i interviewed on 2/26 and LOVEDDDD the school, so i mailed in a letter of interest on monday of this week...do they send a confirmation email about this or anything? did you mail or email your letter(s) of interest? i just don't know if i should wait for a confirmation, or if i should call them sometime next week to make sure that it was added to my file because i would absolutely love to attend GW in the fall. if you could let me know, i'd really appreciate it! 🙂

just checked the status site (interviewed jan. 19) and found out i'm an alternate just like everyone else on SDN it appears...

Has anyone been accepted recently? It seems like just WL's...I interviewed a week ago, so I won't hear back for awhile, but really, no one has seen any gw love recently?

Hello Greentea,
Goodluck, I hope you get some of their loving

I got an acceptance Monday 😀 Interviewed 1/22. So there is still some GW love going out. Don't despair!

Good luck to everyone still waiting!

Congrats!

What are your stats and ECs like? And what was your interaction like with the school? Did you send in a letter of interest or something like that?

Thanks

so the day finishes at 2:30pm. and my flight departs at 4:20 from IAD Dulles. so that be fine?

I'm an MS4 at GW and did a lot of flying for residency interviews this year and I can tell you, Dulles is not my favorite airport around here!

Your flight will probably not work out, but you can try. There is no metro (subway train) to Dulles, so you will have to take a cab and at that time of day in the DC area, it takes me over an hour with typical afternoon traffic to get to where I live which is only a little further than the airport. At some airports, getting there 40 min prior to departure will work, but at Dulles, you need to get there at least an hour beforehand because security is ridiculous and the layout of the airport is not very friendly to someone in a hurry. They have one huge security checkpoint for all the people to go thru which is a total nightmare. I seriously recommend you try to get on a later flight, especially as you may not get to walk out the door at 2:30.

Reagan National would be even better if you could switch, since the Blue line takes you from Foggy Bottom/GW to Reagan in about 30 min and the airport is well-designed enough that you could hurry to your gate without too much difficulty. They were smart enough to make several screening points, divided among the terminals, so there is usually never any one big line to hold you up. Plus no stupid shuttles to wait on to take you to detached terminals (like Dulles), as it is all in one big structure.

Anyways, good luck with interviewing! If you have any questions about GW, feel free to ask.

Could you discuss the curriculum a little. From the website, it seems like it is PBL + lecture/labs. Is this correct?

It May not finish at 2:30. Some people interviewing with me had interviews at 2:30 and 3:00 PM.

What? then why would they say in the email that it ends 2:30pm. I don't get it.

its really not feasible to take a later flight. its super expensive as I am coming from the west coast. It sucks because I booked it already and I cannot really cancel without paying more. ugh. this sucks

Edit: so i managed to take another by paying a little bit more.

Yes, the first and second year consist of lectures (2-3 hrs long) interspersed with labs. PBL is a weekly small-group session that has continuity in that you have the same group and faculty mentor for the 2 years. You also have DPS (Doctor-Pt-Society) on a weekly basis which alternates physical diagnosis sessions in the simulated exam rooms in the hospital with small group sessions that focus on ethics, communication, etc. This group is separate from your PBL group and also stays together through 3rd year. Then you have the clinical experience (CAP) which is about every other week for 3-4 hours at local private practice offices or at the MFA clinic, during the first two years of school. This is where you will practice your H&P skills and writing notes.

Attendance is not strict for lectures, mostly just for some of the labs, though it is recorded for the small groups. The faculty are very approachable and the note-taking service is very helpful if you don't like to come to lecture.

I know they've revamped the Neuro and Biochem in the last couple years, but the younger students seem to like the curricula in those courses. Those were the only ones anyone ever complained about during my first year.

Overall it is a very well-balanced curriculum, you get a lot of patient exposure early on. The boards did not require a lot of extra studying beyond the course material, and Step 2 CS was a joke since we took exams modeled on it starting the first semester. I feel very prepared and eager to start intern year this June.

My only criticism is something GW can't help -- being in DC! LOL.

on my interview day, most people were done and out the door by 1:30! No rush at all.

I think i read this before, but just to be clear, they let you bring your suitcase with you to interview day?

i know that i saw people with suitcases at my interview, so i'm guessing it's not an issue 🙂

Any news on a second look day???

-Apologies for being the enth number person to ask this but I am really curious.

do you have to be accepted to go to second look days, or can waitlisted people go too?

I am not sure. I believe, but you should check, that accepted and POSSIBLY waitlist students are accepted. Not sure though.

Any late January applicants hear anything yet? Man, I'm getting so antsy. So hard to focus.

1/26...still have not heard anything yet...

Anxious to hear though...

I thought the wait for the MCAT scores was bad. This is so much worse.

I e-mailed in my letter (or I guess e-mail) of interest, and they replied back promptly and said "thanks, and will be putting this in your file". I was going to send in a paper copy too, but since they e-mailed back so promptly and it's already in the file, gonna just let it go.

Good luck to you and to me 😉

Alternate List. Interviewed 1/28.
Anyone know how big this list is?

I interviewed on 1/26 and have yet to hear...

Perhaps this is a bad thing? Has anybody who interview on 1/26 heard yet?

Found out by email.
Jbru, maybe it's a good thing?
Do they even reject at this point or does every interviewee go on the alternate list? Oh and some earlier post suggested that the al and wl could mean to different things but who knows.

Has anybody heard anything from GW recently...

GW is my top choice so I am super anxious to hear (interviewed 1/26, coming up on 8 weeks)...

This might be worse than waiting for MCAT score reports...

Just withdrew post-acceptance.

:luck: to those on the WL!

just checked my status and noticed i have been waitlisted... i interviewed on 2/16.

i wasn't able to get a good feel for GWU during my interview day, so i'm not sure if i should keep my spot on the waitlist. does anyone know how GWU compares to Maryland? that's the school i would (probably) otherwise attend. thanks!!

From my experience, there's a good number of people that are accepted from the AL but I think that as a whole its a small % of the entire list. I feel like this school has one of the most extensive waitlists of any school. GL to all!

Really? That's strange, because you definitely heard back before the 6 week mark they almost guarantee you will never hear before.

GWU told my interview group that we would probably hear back before the 6 week timeline, because the adcom was trying to finish notifying applicants post-interview before the end of march.

Congrats on getting into one of your top choices bamtuba! I think you might have been there on my interview day, but not sure 🙂 Thanks for opening a spot up!!

any recommendations on what I should bring to my interview? essays, amcas? something to do during down time? This is my only OOS interview, and only my second one so i am inexperienced!

thanks

I have the impression that GW only accepts and waitlists post-interview. Thus, the waitlist is, indeed, huge and although there is a chance, you should not hold out much hope for an acceptance. If it is your only hope for an MD acceptance, do not hesitate to get your app together for the next cycle. I agree it would be much better if they didn't string along ~500 applicants to the beginning of August. Many schools seem to practice the same policy, though. By the way, I interviewed at GW last year.

were you a reapplicant this year to GW? did they interview you again if you were a reapplicant?

Highly recommend practicing the most important questions (why med? why gw?)...check the interview feedback available. The interview was very chill.

Besides that, know your primary and secondary well. During the day, just try to relax. Though you won't have much down time, you'll probably spend what you have talking to interviewees/students. Good luck!

Anybody got interview invites recently? I was safe from the most recent mass rejections. Almost end of March. Any hope? IS THERE HOPE?! LOL/SIGH I have been waiting since September. This is torture. 😕 :scared: 😱

I am waiting for interview invites, too.
Just curious, how many people are there waiting for interview offers at this point?

Interviewing thursday, and have a whole day to spend in DC on Wednesday. Any ideas on good places to eat and things to do?

Are we the only ones left? I really want GWU! Apparently, they don't want me that badly. They are just letting me sit out in the rain for months before generously offering me a seat by the warm fire? Hopefully shelter?! Hm?! Lol.
