Hi guys,
I have a quick question. What do you put down for courses? If you've taken both intro and advanced Biology for instance, do you pick and choose the courses that you did well in? Or is it a rule to only put down intro courses? I haven't seen any specifications on this topic.

Thanks!

I think you only list the courses that fulfills the course requirements. I would not worry too much about this, remember they have access to AMCAS.

this was discussed earlier actually...anyways in the end its not going to matter. If you are trying to "hide" a B or C theres no point as its not like they wont see it on the transcripts...someone argued that it can be a "psychological" effect but lets just be honest. You are not going to be rejected or accepted based on the pre req grid. If it eases your mind use the classes you got all A's in. Personally I just used intro courses as thats what they are supposed to be. But it doesnt matter either way. Do what will make you less worried so you dont waste time worrying.

So I just finished up with this secondary. First one.

Anyways, I originally only applied to GWU as a "safety"; with it's reasonable stats and cool location, I figured why not.

However after looking into the school I bit more, I (tentatively) am excited about this school. Location is obviously sweet, but the international opportunities seem really sweet. I've never had the chance to go abroad, and I definitely want to do that in med school. GWU seems really great in that regard, with a lot of different 3rd and 4th year electives in different third world countries.

I was worried I'd have a hard time explaining why I want to go here, but that hasn't been the case. Anyone else get excited about GWU after researching it a bit more?

Im excited about DC in general. Though i know what you mean, after reading more on the school i defiantly got more excited. If i cant stay in state, GWU or gtown would be high on my list of schools.

Only downside to DC seems to be the money aspect.

Hopefully this trend will continue; the more I learn about a school, the more I like it. Maybe I'll get super-stoked over some unknown school.

Story of my life. Medical school in the nation's capital? Just blocks down from where the political action is? Oh my gosh, it's a dream come true for someone who wants to work in community or global health. 🙂

Yeah definitely. First, I was a bit, mehhh, the school isn't ranked and it was on probation and all that. Plus the cost is high.

But after researching, I am liking this school more and more. I love how it's in Washington DC and close to research insitutions. And there are lot of positives if you look through their website. Lots of clinical opportunities in DC. I would be real happy with an acceptance here.👍

You can use advanced classes to fufill pre-reqs. Whichever you put is up to you. But like everything in life, try to highlight your strengths and not your weaknesses. Goodluck.

any med schools in the DC area interests me b/c I am also a poli sci major. I'm hoping to do MD/JD and help shape health care policies on capitol hill. I know people who can get me started so going to med school in DC would be a dream come true.

Hi, I am just starting to fill out my secondaries, GWU being the first one. I really hope I am not late but reading this thread makes me a little bit nervous. I'm sorry if it has been discussed before but I have a simple question. Do I have to wait until my AMCAS is verified to be able to send in my secondaries or can I send them in without being verified? Thank you!

Haha, anybody notice that the essay question asking for five lines only actually has six lines?

yah lol...maybe its to trick you. those who go over the limit are auto rejected!!!🙄

You are so out to get me rejected! But yeah if it makes you feel any better, I used all six. 🙂

lol i did too man...i didnt even realize it till someone pointed it out to me later. Then i felt like a ****** 😛

eep! This is my first time posting. ^_^ For the most part I've been lurking and didn't find a need to post since majority of my questions were already asked then answered at some point in the threads.

Anywho! Here's my first question! For the activities section, am I suppose to proceed to answer in sentence format or can I just list everything? I'm in a few campus organizations, work on the weekends, full time undergrad, and have a lot of ec activities. :X Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Is everybody stapling their pictures on the paper? or tape? I am sure this really doesn't matter but I figured I might as well conform...
I used a program called FormulatePro (mac), and I was able to post my picture on the PDF before printing. I'm sure there's a PC way to do it too. I also used that to reduce the font size to ensure that my whole class department and number fit in all the spaces i.e. "PHYS 241W". And no, I didn't use it to reduce the font size of the rest of my app so that I could fit more in the lines!

Are you asking about the primary app? or GW's secondary app? In the primary, I used full sentences, but that's up for debate based on who you ask. On GW's app, I used all essays. The prompts hint at essay format. Good luck!

I used full sentences. You can use bullet points for primary app though. Up to you.

Are you talking about the super small two lines that we get for like activities AND courses and the rest of our life? I listed. There is NO way you can fit everything in sentence format with only two lines 🙂

Don't worry, you're not late at all. We're just anal here.

You can submit your secondary before your AMCAS is verified. However, make sure the school has actually asked for your secondary.

Some schools, like GWU, send out their secondary before your AMCAS is verified. You got that email, right? Do that one now.

Other schools (I think Yale and Darthmouth) have their secondaries avaliable on their website currently, so we can all see it and begin working on it. However, I believe they don't want you to submit it until they contact you.

OMG! If only I'd read this BEFORE I dropped my app. in the mail this morning.
Do you think it is a trick??

No seriously. Don't worry about it.

lol, I know it's a silly worry, but it definitely seems like a good way to whittle down the number of apps if you receive as many as they do. 🙄

I don't think they will use such low tactics to screen you out or something. I mean they aren't totally evil.

oops! I forgot to clarify, but yes for the secondary... I'm finding it impossible to write it all in sentence... so I guess I'll just list and categorize with semi-colons & colons 😀 Thanks for all the help! 👍

For #10, I think the 5 line limit while having 6 lines for you to write has somethign to do with how well you follow directions. Its BOLDED so it must be important. I only filled up 5 lines just to be safe.

also...did anyone receive an email from them saying they received your recent MCAT score?

I actually used full sentences.

does a specific volunteer experience count as non-academic? and can it overlap with what i put in the primary app?

thanks guys!

Yes, of course. Just don't copy it verbatim from your AMCAS. Expand on this experience so that the reviewers may have more insight on you as a person.

Does anyone know if I can apply Early Decision or General MD for 2010 if I am still on the AL for this year?

I am still hoping to get off the AL, but I don't want to waste the opportunity of applying early for the next cycle.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

hey pharaoh, I had to edit my dates. Can you update your post with my new dates?

I think there is a confusion here. SR means when you first received your secondary invite from the school. SS means when you submitted your completed secondary to your school.
