AdemTD - I was going to do getting my private pilot's license too! Haha, I'm glad I read that you did, so now I'll have to think of something else to be unique 😛

I called yesterday and the lady stated that you'll receive an email when your file is complete and then you'll be given an instruction to access the status page for further updates.

Hey guys. Way to go for those already done with 1 secondary. I have a couple questions I hope someone can answer.

1. Even though I am not yet verified on AMCAS, should I still go ahead and send in my GW secondary? Will it matter if I wait for my primary to be verified?

2. How optional is the picture? Did most of you all add a picture? I was not going to, but I don't want to be one of few that doesn't.

1. Not sure.

2. I attached a picture. I read somewhere on SDN that it will be helpful if you attach a picture. It's not a big deal, I think.

pic is optional and its not liek they are going to trash your app because no pic is added. You can send one in later. It just has to be in by the time you interview. No worries on that. As for the primary i dont know. Im fairly sure you can send it in now and it wont matter, but i could be wrong...hopefully someone can verify.

I think I read somewhere that the school may not have started a file for you yet. :\

hey guys, i need some advice on my greatest non-academic achievement.. im getting different responses from different people but here are my options:

-training for and finishing a ten miler race

-overcoming a family tragedy and becoming a stronger person

-being a part of my very successful sorority philanthropy

-achieving fluency in spanish (too academic??)


i have no idea what to write abouttt?? help

I would throw out the Spanish one. For the rest, only you can gauge each one's significance to you. Think about which one affected you most, and you should be able to write about it easily.
 
So, as I've gone through and worked on newer secondaries that are rolling in, I'm realizing more and more that I really like GWU and I'd have a hard time choosing between GWU and a school that's closer to home.

Has anyone else felt this way after researching so many schools?

Well of course I have my favorites we all do, but I try not to get hung up on any one school as getting into one school is hard let alone trying to focus everything on one school. GWU is defiantly higher on my list then it was before i started secondaries but a huge part of my decision will be based on solely financial reasons. Unfortunately GWU is one of the most expensive schools in the country when you take into account tuition and cost of living. Im fairly sure GWU doesnt offer a lot in financial aid either 🙁

That's true. I know there are a lot of different things to considering when it comes to medical school and that's why, like you said, it's great not to have a favorite. I guess I have a hard time swinging between getting excited about certain aspects of so many different schools and really worried that I won't even get an interview. Can being over emotional be a weakness? lol
 
ok more of the accomplishment question: i know learning a new language is pretty academic, but how about immigrating to the US mid high school and learning english and starting to work, adapt to the new culture, etc, etc.. ?!! part of this is in my disadvantage essay but my other choice of overcoming a serious illness sounds not so much of an accomplishment since its more of the doctor's accomplishments i feel!

on the other hand i could use my volunteer work and how i connect with patients with language barrier or who are with the same health problems?!!

any ideas? i am leaning toward the first one, what do you guys think?!

I like the 1st one much better then your other idea. Normally i would consider language academic but coming from another country i think is a good one.

another question:
for the courses the required is usually 6 hrs, i have mostly 5 unit quarter system which is 3.3 semester system hours so does that mean two of each class is what they require? but there is space for 3!!! my univ only required 2 ochem/lab quarters and i was going to take another one post bacc, do i indicate that my pre-req's are not finished? or since its 6 hrs they are?!

does tutoring count as significant non academic pursuits?
 
I am a nontraditional student, and I had to repeat some of my courses mainly because I had taken them so long ago. There really isn't enough space, but should I attach an extra page to list the old ones as well? My current grades are so much better, I don't want them to think I was hiding anything.


Oh, as for a nonacademic pursuit.. volunteer EMT should be fine.. right?


Anyone else have issues saving the pdf?

1)You can just list only the current grades. They have access to your transcript so they can see all the old grades too.

2)EMT certification is ok.

3)You can't save the PDF. You can do your draft essays on Microsoft Word, Notepad amongst others and then transfer them to your GWU secondary line by line. It sucks but that's what I did.
 
For the non-academic accomplishment, what about talking about something like singing? For example, being in musicals, winning the talent show, etc

I think that's great. Make sure you explain what you got out of it.
 
This secondary is not one that's due in 2 weeks or something right? What do we do for secondaries that are due in such time but our app is not verified yet?

There is no time limit to turn it in. However, it's advisable to turn it in early due to the crush of applications GW receives.

Such schools will wait until you're verified before even sending out a secondary to you.

I am in the same boat as you. I immigrated to the US mid HS, and had to learn english and adapt to the new culture, etc...... I am thinking that as my most significant non-academic accomplishment. I am not that is a good idea. What do u guys think?

<3 easy mode secondaries (5 and 8 line essays? wtf?)
 
quick question: if you are a us citizen you are also a permanent resident right? if you are already sending a copy of your us passport do you still have to have a permanent resident card?!

If you're US Citizen, you don't have to do anything other click the box next to US Citizen in the application.

ahhh i already put yes and it wont let me get rid of it, gotta say yes or no! grrr i dont wanna do all the courses again why dont they let you save 🙁

they like to cause you pain 😛. I had to reenter my classes 3 times for GW......its kinda ridiculous they dont allow saving.
