Ok, so here's my experience.

I'm actually a re-applicant. I applied late last year, was complete at most schools in Nov/Dec, some in Jan... Long story short, I wasn't accepted or interviewed anywhere. That's 23 rejections. In one year. Ouch.

So, I tried again this year, applied early, and here I am with my first interview at GW (my top choice school) and I'm psyched.

Last year, I got that "hold" message. I was complete there by November. Last year, "hold" meant that both reviewers had reviewed your application, and as someone said earlier, they didn't want to reject you outright, they want to give you a chance, to see what other applicants look like compared to you.

I never heard back from them, but I applied late. I'm sure plenty of good people like yourselves who got on the ball early and are currently on hold will hear good news from GW later this year! Don't lose hope, you've got this 🙂

I wonder what they're doing with me...have been complete since 7/9 and haven't been put on hold, nor have I been offered an interview...what's up with that?

Thank you for writing your experience. I hope it inspires others. I'm interviewing on that day too. It's ~6 wks from now. I heard it's a very laid back kinda interview. The email says it's closed file so no need for us to memorize our application. I have never been to DC!

hey mega, thanks for that information. i wonder when they send these invites out....? daily, weekly? seems like a ton of people were invited yesterday.

It seems like the invites yesterday were for September. The September calendar isn't full yet so they are probably gonna be still sending out more invites this week.

Anyway I have been invited for an interview for September. I'm loving this 4 interview invites in July. This is sweet. Still waiting.....

Just got the hold message. At this point I don't know if that is good or bad since people are already getting interviews. It seems like right now its either hold or interview, haven't heard of any other responses yet.

lol the chances of any of us getting interviews on hold this early is probably slim to none at best. I stopped worrying at least its not a rejection, though it seems no one is rejected. I doubt GWU does too many rejections early on due to the high withdrawal rate and such. And the large numbers they interview each year.

Yeah, you're right, Elijah. The chance of on-hold changing to check your email is slim to none. I guess this time of year is, ironically, not the time to be a neurotic pre-med; we can't lose steam on filling out those secondaries because we're too busy clicking on status buttons. I figure the email always precedes the status update, regardless.

ahha yah. I feel you though, i check my email like 10 times each and everyday, probably will until july 2010 or so . Thats so sad but its like an addiciton 😛. Probaly doesnt help i have my blackberry to which feeds the addiction 🙁

Yup. It's blind. You are a blank slate. You'll have the chance to paint a picture of yourself during the interview.

Sometimes I am almost thankful that the process is fickle, as I don't see any legitimate reason why schools would accept me over the awesomely talented people here. I'm hoping the admissions officer looks at my app and says, "this guy's kinda interesting. I want to see him in person." Or something to that effect.

There was a thread on SDN were student hosts posted their availability. Not sure if it's updated for this year's cycle. You may also wanna email the interview committee to see if they have a student host list. The email sent to us only includes hotels. I called the GWU Inn and it was $189 per night(after student discount!).

My DD got an invite yesterday, which was sweet since a rejection from another school was in the same batch of emails.

She doesn't do forums or check her status much, so I don't know the status, but submitted AMCAS around 6/20s, mailed GW 2nd on July 1, with a photo, and was verified around the 9th or 10th of July, so her mailed 2nd would have been there when the AMCAS app was downloaded.

Average stats, 29/3.7/top ranked public/above average activities for regular people so probably below average for SDN 😀

word to the wise...do not wear the earmuffs. I wore them the first time and it cost me. the first 30 min of PS, I was breezing through it. then I lost focus b/c I've developed a headache from the pressure caused by the earmuff. epic fail. But hopefully my July 2 MCAT will be better. Good luck!

Haha, yea and make sure to take all ur breaks and rest. Also pee ahead of time (especially if u r a coffee junkie like me), I had to pee in the middle of my physical sciences exam ....and they made me fingerprint in and out (waste of 4-5 minutes)

And bring snacks. PowerBar or granola bars and energy drinks works fine.
