Haha, yea and make sure to take all ur breaks and rest. Also pee ahead of time (especially if u r a coffee junkie like me), I had to pee in the middle of my physical sciences exam  ....and they made me fingerprint in and out (waste of 4-5 minutes)

you do know that drinking coffee makes you dehydrated and urinate a lot right?

I read through this thread. But I'm still hoping to solidify my understanding of what the "hold for re-review at a later date" means.

Basically, if I understand them correctly, we're hanging out in a huge junk pile, that may get picked over one more time at the tail end of the interview season.

Right?

The reason I'm asking is because I am getting tired of driving myself crazy checking status of applications everywhere....this complex and vague admissions reviews-speak is not helping.

They should just say there not that into me. Pigs. Playing on my feelings like this.

That's where I'm at. I'm taking the "hold for re-review" as a de facto rejection.

Unless an adcom from GWU comes here its impossible to know 100%...but it seems that basically it means they dont deem you good enough for an early interview (sept-oct). And that later they will review you for interviews in the late season, probably dec or so at the earliest. Its not a rejection, if it was a rejection they would say so, i know that much at least. Now when we are reviewed later it may turn into a rejection. But we are all at least getting another review. Its not like you have to be intereviewed in sept or oct to be accepted guys seriousy....

I want it now though.

It was mentioned earlier that sometimes admissions committees reject higher-than-average stats applicants because they think they are less interested. I am applying to GWU with a 3.7, 36, and am genuinely interested in attending. Should I be worried?

You could. But what's that going to do?

I seriously doubt that schools would reject students because they have too high of stats, especially without even giving an interview. You think GWU doesn't want to boost their stats higher than previous years?

If this theoretical "high cutoff" does exist at schools, there's a simple solution. Just wait to give them an interview in like Janurary. Then you'll see if they're really interested.

how do u check ur status at GW? i cant find that link.

Quick turnaround! Congrats. You must have impressed them 🙂.

Thanks.

They assigned me an interview day, do you guys know if there's any flexibility with that?

I had to reschedule.

The e-mail says to e-mail them back with 2 alternate dates that would be best for you and they'd try to pick the best time for you. They interview on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Oops, I made that post before reading the whole email. I guess I was so excited, I read a few words/sentences here and there and then set it aside . Thanks guys

I believe that GW does put extremely qualified applicants in the hold pile. My friend, who has received an interview at Pitt, was put on hold. With 13k applicants, they need to do something to cut down the amount of interviews (including not inviting people that they think are using them as a backup). If you are genuinely interested, I am sure a letter in a month or two stating your interest will do a lot towards them re-evaluating your application.

What should a letter of intent contain? Is it really beneficial to send one or is it viewed by the adcoms as an annoyance?

At this point, I think a letter of intent would be annoying since you haven't been interviewed yet. Don't these things really only help if you're trying to get in off a waitlist?

annoying to send now. Also huge waste of time as these are meant to be sent not only after an interview, but later in the cycle. No one is going to take that seriously at this point, it would only look poorly on you. If you dont have an interview or even if you do theres nothing to write and suck up at this time. A better idea if you truly wanted to would be sending a letter of interest not intent, however that is far too early for even that. Just wait a bit.

Sorry if this has been asked before, but for the "Non-academic accomplishment"--Question 10, could we talk about conducting research (post undergraduate)? Thanks!

I believe anything non-academic is everything besides school, research, or some other academias.

Seriously. Thai curry for $12-18? No thanks.

A good burger for $7? Yikes.

Circulator for $1? And no paper transfers? Ridiculous.

Oh and $1000 for a room in a house? Not including utilities, of course.

Oh great, so I guess I'll be eating roman if I end up here, since I very much need that 1000 dollar roof over my head :meanie:, tho maybe I can live without heat... lol

FYI...it's ramen not roman.

LOL, NOOOOO, I meant I wanted to eat those ancient men and women from Rome...

well that was embarrassing, I guess Hannibal was still on my mind from a History Channel Special. (Yes, I am a nerd I know!)

This is really weird; I sent in my application in the mail last week through USPS priority mail. I had a confirmation thingy (good thing). When I checked the website, it said it was not delivered and notice left on the door maybe because it was a saturday. WTH?? It was just a yellow envelope, why couldn't be left there. So now I'm confused. Will the post office try to deliver again? i tried calling, but they're closed of course.

Yes they will. I used USPS too. The same thing happened to me . It will be re-delivered by 12 today(most likely).

THANK YOU! I was stressed out about it. I called USPS twice today, but nobody can help. They kept saying the recipient has to request redelivery, and that nothing can be done. GWU told me they don't have a notice as it goes through a central delivery area. But thats good to know!

Yesssssssssssss!! I am so stoked. Just got an interview invite after being on hold for about a week. First invite thus far!

congrats! was it an email or status page check?

Thanks. I was complete on the 23rd of june and placed on hold late last week I believe. My status still says hold but I got the email about 40 mins ago. I am very excited, something about getting that first interview just makes me feel like I just might be going to med school. God is great!

I got my first interview invite from GW this morning too!!!!

It's been difficult focusing at work today...too excited 🙂

not that I know of...I never got an email about being on hold. But it's possible that I was and just didn't know about it?

yay!! congrats 🙂

were you ever put on hold?!
someone was put on hold and got an interview, so i wouldnt worry about being on hold too much. Its just that a hold, not a soft rejection obviously

i know! just been on hold for too long here 😳

I called the office today and was told not to "worry at all about being on hold" and that a majority of the applicants are placed on hold...also if you're re-taking the MCAT they do not make a final decision on your application until they receive your scores and will then put you on hold in the interim....so don't worry about the hold status!
