A lot more impressive than I expected (I'm from DC and went t grad school at GW and wasn't expecting very much). The clinical training is great (whole 6th floor of GW hospital is devoted to clinical learning (simulation center, patient rooms). Now they just have to love me back.. I thought the interview went great and was very laid back but who knows 😕

For rescheduling interviews, do you email the admissions office or the email that they have provided on the invitation? Sorry it wasn't clear which email address I am suppose to send the two dates to.

Yes, GWU was put on probation last year. They were given two years to rectify the concerns raised by the LCME. They made it a priority to fix their problems and felt confident enough to be re-reviewed a year early. Most of the students see this as a sign that their school will most likely be removed from probation in January. From this probation, students have a great lounge space, new lecture hall, all added to the already well-known and excellent facilities GWU already had. Things, as far as I've heard or seen are only better for incoming students. I believe Temple, Jefferson, and I want to say SUNY Downstate have all been on probation, with positive results in the long run.

GWU has, and will continue to have an excellent reputation. If you're concerned, and aren't feeling good about the school regardless of whatever else you hear, feel free to withdraw. Many people would love to attend GWU, myself included. 🙂 hope this eases your mind.

GW may be great, but going on probation is

BAD.

just sayin' - let's be honest here.

Being on probation is bad, of course, but the point is that I'm confident that GWU will soon be off probation. I'm saying that this school will be even better in the years to come. Instead of looking at short term issues, think about what will occur in the long term. This school is 100% dedicated to addressing the problems brought up by the LCME. If you tour the facilities you can see improvement. This is improvement upon already excellent facilities like their amazing simulation center. The students I met made it clear that they were confident in their school's ability to overcome this probation. These are students who were open about how upset they were when they first found out the school was put on probation. Administrative action has allayed their concerns and fears. Further, one year of probation does not undo over 100 years of turning out excellent physicians and a long time reputation for turning out excellent, globally minded physicians. They were placed on probation last year, and looking at their match list for the past year, I am not concerned.

Has anyone received an interview invite lately? I wish there was some way of knowing when they're actually evaluating applicants for interview slots.

I know what you mean. I'm still on this re-review status...and it's driving me nut-so checking it so often. AGHH...I can't wait another month!
😱

Do you think they'd still get 10,000 applications if people knew they were on probation? I bet it'd drop a bit.

Interview day they said they expected more like around 15,000 this year. interesting. obviously this has not phased applicants.

Honestly, I think they are already addressing the probation issues so I dont think it will be a big deal in the long run. If they dont, I think applicants will notice. But then again, it is so difficult to get in somewhere that it is not surprising that so many ppl still apply.

So you're telling me that being put on probation doesn't contradict an excellent reputation? Just saying...

Did any of you people (particularly you, utah) read the article that utah just posted?

The probation status has more to do with their administrative structure and the phrasing of their policies than anything serious.

If the school was on probation for, say, unsafe working/patient care conditions, low board pass rates, discriminatory practices, student dissatisfaction, or any number of other issues that would actually be detrimental to the educational or patient-care process, then yes, the probation would be an issue.

This is a blip on the radar and will be forgotten after it is cleared in January. Any applicant who runs at the word 'probation' without looking into what that actually means doesn't show the right investigatory mindset that medicine requires. Looking at the numbers, however, it seems this set of applicants is generally smarter than that...

I don't get what the big debate is...

If you are worried about the probation, don't apply. If you arent', apply. It's as easy as that.

Hmm, I just got a "Hold" email..but I've been on hold (via status page) for months now. Does this email mean anything (I've been passed over again?? 🙁 ) or does everyone eventually get this?

I just got the on hold email too. But I have no idea what that means since I've been on hold since Aug-ish also. Perhaps they just sent out a round of rejections?

Just got the same email, and had the same question! Does this mean we've been passed over now twice?

i think it was a generic email that was sent to all who are on hold. at least it's better than a rejection though!

So I've been on hold for a while but I did not get that email and my status page hasn't changed ... anyone else on that boat?

i also got the hold reminder email
but considering how many people apply to this school... this isnt good news 🙁

Man, I thought that email was an interview invitation.

Same for me. Does this mean they are getting ready to reject us? When were you complete?

Pretty sure this means their interviews are all booked, maybe for just this year. I mean, most of us were already on hold, right? This school sucks at communicating. Why send another email to re-enforce our hold-ness unless it was a subtle "we don't plan on acting on any more applicants within our unspecified time frame, so don't expect to come off hold for a while"?. Other schools have been doing this type of thing too, the whole "We're done inviting for this year, so start checking your email again in January".

I received the same email. If this is anything like last year, we will be in this status until march when we will get another email indicating that they might still be able to interview us although it would be unlikely and then in June receive a full rejection letter.

No, I meant I have been on hold since July, 10 but did not receive one of these emails. I wonder what that means...

Are rejection letters sent via snail mail or email? Would they update this on the status page? Oh boy, not a good sign...

I bet those of us that have been on hold but didn't receive the hold email have rejection letters on the way via snail mail. GWU rejects via snail mail, right?

gulp I sure hope that no e-mail doesn't equal bad news...otherwise I'm in the same boat as you guys...:scared:

Woah woah, don't judge

I've been on hold since 10/13 - no email. Not sure if its good or bad 😕

I didn't get this email and just called them. The lady said - you're still on hold for re-review. So no email doesn't mean the rejection 🙂

Exactly what I'm saying! Don't judge based on the word 'probation'.

Thank you! I was wondering about this. I have also been on hold since mid September and was hoping that no e-mail didnt = rejection.

Good luck guys!

Has anyone received an interview invite lately? I wish there was some way of knowing when they're actually evaluating applicants for interview slots.
