So I just realized that I accidentally addressed Dr. Callahan as "Ms. Callahan" when I sent an email a couple weeks ago to correct my SAT scores. Huge, noticable mistake?

I haven't heard anything from Jefferson and I'm really, really interested in the program. Has anyone reported success in the past with letters of interest/"in the area" phone calls/anything along those lines?

I tried doing an "in the area" email and I got a form response saying

Thank you for your interest in Jefferson Medical College. Once an application is complete it is reviewed by the Committee on Admissions to determine if an interview will be granted. Interviews are conducted on Wednesdays from mid September through early April. If you are granted an interview you will be notified by e-mail three-five weeks in advance of the interview date – if you cannot come on the date invited we will attempt to schedule on a date that will work for you.

Is anyone applying to the Rural program (PSAP) at Jefferson? I am wondering what exceptions the program will make for students - lower MCATS ect.

Is Jefferson sending out rejection letters yet? Or do they wait till March to do that?

Look at the MDApps Profile of SDN user han14tra. She was admitted to Jefferson last year under the PSAP program with stats far below Jefferson's averages. 25 MCAT and roughly 3.5 Science GPA. Unless she had a totally incredible application outside of her stats (which her Profile belies), her admission seems to suggest that Jefferson does lower the bar for PSAP candidates.

I was completed around mid August but haven't heard a peep from Jefferson. Anyone else in this situation? I'm feeling tempted to call, but I'm generally awkward on the phone, and it might come off as annoying...same silent treatment from most other med schools too.

I would heavily recommend calling. Try to set up a phone appt with the Director of Admissions, Dr. Brooks. She's really friendly and went over my application completely, even my areas of weaknesses, and when my application was first reviewed. Most importantly, she won't try and inject false hope. She's honest and realistic about your app and I found that to be most helpful.

it seems a little early in the season to be doing stuff like this...

Btw for anyone interested, I just interviewed here a week or two ago. Interviews are larger than at most schools...about 30 students/day because they only interview once a week on Wednesdays as the interview day program is completely student run (and it would be too much for the student committee to miss class more than one day per week). After each interview set, the admissions faculty committee meets the following Wednesday to discuss candidates. First acceptances go out next Thursday (10/15) on a rolling basis and it looks as though in general it's a pretty quick turnaround...you get either (1) Acceptance (2) Hold/Waitlist (3) Rejection. Seemed like 1 and 2 were much more likely than 3. Overall, the admissions process seemed very efficient and transparent and they'll definitely explain it well during the morning information presentations.

Good luck!

Dear 2010 Applicants,

Please be assured that once we receive your verified AMCAS application we also receive your letters of recommendation. Please DO NOT REFER TO THE APPLICANT STATUS SCREEN because it is not updated to reflect receipt of letters - WE AUTOMATICALLY RECEIVE LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION FROM AMCAS. Please check with AMCAS directly to see which letters they have submitted to Jeferson Medical College.

Thank you and best wishes in your endeavors.

Why do they have a specific status section for LOR's if they admit that its not even accurate? Doesn't make sense to me. Oh well, doesn't matter i guess.

How does Jeff release acceptances/waitlists/rejections? I vaguely remember the admissions office saying that we might be able to get decisions today (10/15) if our faculty interviewer is able to attend the committee meeting quickly. Anyone else waiting to hear?

Cool status page update too? What day did you interview?

No status page update. The most recent update was: "Attended Interview", nothing else has changed since then.

Interviewed on October 7.

Congratulations to those accepted. I sent a letter of interest on Saturday, so hopefully I will be granted an interview and end up in the same situation 🙂

To whom did you send the LOI? Did you email it? Share the email address, if you emailed.

Accepted! I also got a call from Dr. Callahan. OOS, 4.0, 34S 🙂

What happens is that the committee meets to talk about the applicant the Thursday a week after the actual interview (as far as I know, the committee only meets on Thursday). The caveat to this is that the faculty interviewer must be present in order for the decision to be made. A student advocate is also present who presents the salient points of the student interview. Usually the decision is made that day.

If you're accepted, you get a call from Dr. Callahan, likely the day of the decision. As for waitlist, I believe that you get snail mail or e-mail, I'm not sure. For rejections, Jefferson seems to be notorious for having "silent" rejections (aka no response), but there could also be snail or e-mail. Basically if you haven't heard from Jefferson after 3 weeks or so, it might be a good idea to call the admissions office to see what's up.

Btw, congrats to those of you who got into Jefferson, it's a great place to be.

for people who have interviewed.. what time did the day end?

Anyone know how much movement Jefferson's wait list sees? 😕 Bummer...

Also, the interview day wraps up around 3 or 4, depending whether you stay for "cookie time."

"High Priority"-- I'm glad to hear there's a difference.
Big difference. Unless you're in a "special category," (URM, DIMER program, PSAP), regular wait list is for all practical purposes a rejection. At least you still have a shot. How many people get off the HP list varies from year to year. Best thing you can do is keep your name in front of Callahan/Brook's faces. Send a LOI, weekly emails, updates (if you have any), etc. When the time comes to start pulling people off the HP wait list, you want your name to be very familiar to them.

How did you find out you were waitlisted?

The day formally ends at 3pm. As someone mentioned above, "cookie hour" is from 3 to 4. It is a reception-like event with current students as well as Dr. Brooks and Dr. Callahan...it is optional.

If you're making travel arrangements, I suggestion staying for this hour (or at least part of it). It's a nice opportunity to meet and make an impression on the two people who will be making the decisions.

Sigh, Jeff why won't you love me back?

accepted! interviewed 10/14...quick turnaround!

Complete mid July and haven't heard a peep. Time to call?

I've also been forgotten, I think. 👎

i haven't heard a word either. i completed my secondary in july...😕

maybe they are doing interview invites based on where people are from rather than when they have submitted their secondary

I just sent in the secondary yesterday! So at this rate I won't even be considered for a very long time...

Just received an invite for Dec. 9th. I was complete around the end of August (27th I believe).

How have the phone appointments been here?

Does anyone who's received their acceptance letter know when/how we're supposed to pay the deposit? It just says "a $100.00 deposit is required before May 15." Do we include a check when we mail back the card saying we're accepting the offer, or will we pay that online later?

Anyone know?

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing...

Maybe once we return the card indicating that we've accepted their offer, they'll send us more detailed information? I'm not too sure... perhaps someone else can offer more insight?

So were you invited to interview? What's your status?

So I interviewed over 2 weeks ago and still haven't heard anything. I thought I had at least a decent shot at Jeff (my stats are above average, i'm from Philadelphia, genuinely interested in going there). I also thought my interview went really well, and the surgeon I talked to even specifically told me he was going to give me all the top scores for each category in the interview review he'd be sending over.

Should I call the office to see what's up? I would have expected an email or something by now, or at least a waitlist offer.

Don't panic yet. If your faculty interviewer doesn't show up at the Admissions Committee meeting at which your file is to be considered, a decision on your application is deferred until s/he does appear. Some people hear back in one week; others don't hear for 3 or 4 weeks depending on when their faculty interviewer shows up. Hang in there.
