Interviewed 11/4. High Priority Waitlisted on 12/10. Accepted 11:30 this morning by a call from Dr. Callahan!!

so they DO do second looks- and it doesnt look like theres any set day they do them. If you were in my position, my advice is to send them an update letter which also reaffirms your interest in the school.

I remember you from WAMC forum and I think you said you were a reapplicant . Thought you said you interviewed and got waitlisted somewhere.

yea not at jefferson
first time applying here

seems like a pretty nice place

but i was wondering
other than possibly tuition, what are some of the reasons that make students withdraw from this school?

You mean withdraw post-acceptance?

yea.
because everyone keeps saying their high priority waitlist moves very quickly
why is that the case?
is it just cuz of the tuition?

That doesn't necessarily mean people are withdrawing. Jefferson tends to accept fewer students early on. If interviews don't go well for some, they'll accept waitlisted students around this time and until the interview season is over even if people aren't withdrawing apps.

Jefferson has an excellent clinical reputation, but going to school in Philadelphia and large class sizes might not be for everyone.

Also, FruitfulDynamit has a very valid point. As you get later in the interview season, people withdraw from invites due to acceptances elsewhere.

Jefferson said that they take as many as 40-50 people off the waiting list out of a class size of 255 (exactly). So cheer up. All is not lost my friend.

🙁Haven't heard anything from Jeff at all, been complete since Dec. I suppose I'll shoot them an informal e-mail...? What should I say?

Received high priority waitlist notification in mid/late-Jan and just received acceptance call today from Dr. Callahan. Didn't send any updates or anything. Nice surprise, as I'd loved Jeff, but I'd sort of become attached to another school that accepted me outright in the interim...

And this was probably a modest number. I think I saw in 2007 around 150 were taken off. According to Jefferson's website that number has dropped by around 50-60 people since then, but still a really good statistic.

when sending in an update, did you guys send it to Dr Brooks and Callahan?

For those who are interested, second look days will be April 29 and 30 this year. Look forward to meeting some of you guys at the events!!

Personally I would send it to Dr. Callahan, as she is the Dean of Admissions... but I have heard that Dr. Brooks is really good about replying to letters and giving you an update on your status.

Do most second looks happen on a Thurs/Fri??? That's sorta tough to get off work for...

Not sure about most schools, but apparently Jeff had their second look on Thursday and Friday last year as well.

I should point out that they indicated in the email that Thursday the 29th is only "evening activities" and Friday the 30th is "all day activities". They did not specify what those activities are going to be.

Dr. Brooks told me that when someone sends her an update or letter of intent she moves them to the top of her pile. I emailed her at 8:00 and she called me for an interview at 8:30. I've never dealt with Dr. Callahan. I've heard similar things. But Brooks is a safe bet too.

😱 That's fast.

I received a response from my letter to Dr. Brooks on Jan 11 but considering that was 3 weeks ago, I'm guessing she didn't like what she saw when she went to my app. 😕

Im still trying to figure out how these schools decide if they like it or not. As of now, im guessing they throw a dart.

I sent an update to the Admissions Office and never got a response. What does that mean? Did I sent it to the wrong party?

Sometimes offices get backed up and don't respond right away. I'd give it a week or so and if you're still worried about it, you can always call to make sure they got it.

I sent it sometimes before Christmas from Philadelphia, so I am sure they have received it. I will call them to make sure they got it though. Never understand why they never responded to my update.

This was back in November. I'm sure things have gotten busier since then. Don't worry!

I sent it to BOTH, and CCd the admissions office. Just to make sure that everyone who needs to see it, does. This is what the first years told me to do at cookie hour during my interview.

Just so I'm clear - is this Pre interview? Or post?

Can someone share the email address? 🙂

And Fruitful - your avatar makes me :scared: I couldn't finish watching that movie cuz of that bunny.

Complete mid-Sept. No news either. I also sent an update letter about 2 months ago to their admissions email addressed to Dr. Callahan, no response to that. I guess they hate me?

I sent an update about 2 weeks ago to their general email address. The one in MSAR. I received an email back saying that it has been placed in my file.

Quick question, Has Jefferson given scholarship awards yet?

50 current first years were once on the wait list. This means they took more than that off, but some of them went elsewhere.

Interviewed on 1/20. I got the "good news" phone message. Yay!

so I get put on waitlist even though "nothing is wrong with my application or interview."

Accepted yesterday via phone call around 3 pm. Interviewed on 1/27. First choice, super excited!

Every school is looking for something different... I was rejected from one of my state schools even though my MCAT and GPA were above their average...

It doesn't always make sense...

I received something for $15000 a year but i think the majority of things are going to come AFTER fafsa information

you know, people say that, but i don't think that its true. i think that for the most part, schools are looking for the same stuff (with some exceptions), and the apparent randomness in admissions comes from the extreme level of subjectivity with which the applications are screened.

which segues into...

i'm told that jefferson has a 'clinical' interest. rather than research. should i bear this in mind when i write my pre-interview letter of interest to them.

I agree they tend to look for the same stuff, but at the same time it all seems random. I mean, why are people with 33-34 MCAT scores not getting interviews and people with 29's and 30's are.... I a lot of times it depends on things like who reviewed your application or who having unique EC's...

well, its possible that schools have really just moved away from gpa and mcat to a certain extent.... and really the subjective evaluation of your ec's, interview, and essays is the deciding factor.

sooooooo, what does it mean to get a blank email from the admissions office?!

That that person is working in the admissions office of a med school instead of attending med school for a very good reason...

Does anyone one know if scholarship awards are given out AFTER you submit FAFSA and the Jefferson Fin. Aid application? I'm just wondering b/c my parents haven't finished their taxes yet and I am wondering when I can expect to hear about my aid package, whatever it may be.

Did you ask them if you could write an update letter? If you ask usually they'll send you a blank email that you can reply to with an update letter. This happened to me earlier in the application season (like October or November).

As a side note, allie, I wouldn't make too many comments like that on here. You never know who reads these forums. At a previous interview the admissions coordinator came up to me and said "ncguy, right? From SDN?" ... No idea how she knew it was me (unless she looked at my state, MCAT score, and GPA from my MDapps) and matched me up...

Does anyone know if accepted students can see course syllabi and/or powerpoints from current classes on JeffPulse?

Nope, you'll need an account and the courses need to be activated for your account (this doesn't happen until right before the course starts). If there's something specific you want to know about Jeff's syllabi and/or powerpoints, feel free to PM me.
