Anybody local that knows of good/decent/cheap hotels to stay at that are close or that would have a shuttle/bus access to the school? The student host program isnt available for my date anymore...🙁

There are a bunch of hotels near Mayfair Mall that would be about a 10 minute drive away from the school - I'd stay there somewhere. As for specific hotels, I live too close to have used any of them, sorry. Google 'wauwatosa hotels' and like 10 or so will come up.

I don't know if they're based solely on completion date, because I certified my app in July but wasn't complete (letter) til earlier this month. I got a small-pool notification in the morning on the next day. I'm in-state though.

yup small pool that week as well, no news. i may have a publication coming up soon so i'm gonna use that as an excuse to call and ask about my status. it's REALLY hard not to call right now and ask exactly where in that small pool list

Yeah, a few years ago it didn't say that, and the small pool email sounded like an interview email.

Here's part of it when I got my small pool email in Nov 2004.

I wanted to quickly update you on the status of your application. The admissions committee has completed a review of your application and
supporting credentials. In doing so they have indicated that you are a
candidate they would like to interview. Your file has now been moved to
a pool of candidates to be invited to interview.

Sound like a guarantee to interview to an eager med school applicant? I thought so.

Complete 9/1 and small pooled 9/14. Don't even think being small pooled really matters since it seems people get interviews without it and some who get small pooled don't get interviews at all.

if this helps, I was complete last year on July 4th or so, small pooled 8/4, and finally got invited to interview on 11/24.

so don't worry. Also, it seems like there are way more waitlist movement now, I know like 20 people that got in off waitlist

First thing you should know about MCW is that they hold interviews twice a MONTH. So on every other Friday, they bring in 70 interview candidates from accross the globe for mass interview day. So if you get "small pooled", it will take longer to hear from MCW whether you got an interview or not because their interview days are so spread out. I think getting "small pooled" usually results in interview invitation (at least that's what happened for me.)

The interview at MCW was a great experience, they really presented the school well. I was just surprised the first night I got there (for the pre-interview pizza social thing) at how many applicants were there. I entered a large room full of people and thought that a med school class had just ended, but everyone there was actually an applicant, and there were only about 10 actual med students. So MCW is unique in that regard.

Wow, 70 interviewees at once, sounds intense, the stress lvl at that school prob rises about 500% during those days lol But I hope you are right and the bunch of us that were small pooled get an invite eventually.

It's remarkably well organized, and there was no increase in stress that I ever noticed among students... maybe among the administration, but they've been doing it that way for a while, so I doubt that too.

Students can get free food. I'd show up as an M3 and M4 under the guise of talking to applicants when I really wanted free dinner or lunch. =)

Do you guys know if the interview spots are getting filled up? 9/21 small-pooled is already pretty late in my opinion so I wanna know if there are still reasonable interview spots left for me to keep my hopes up. thanks!

Don't stress.

My friend applied like November with a 28 mcat...didn't ask him to interview until March.

Assuming you have good stats this small pooled news is GOOD news

OK so I don't mean to sound like a super tool but I am wondering if I should call to see what my status is. Maybe I am not getting their emails. Last year I had an interview by now. I even asked the dean if I should reappy or if it wouldn't be worth it based on what they saw last year. He told me to reapply. I made some serious improvements since then and had this app in on the first day they released it...

I heard about some people not getting their emails and it makes me really nervous, but I don't want to make the admissions people mad either.

whatever day it was released i was complete and I am instate.

Same situation as you. I was complete 7/7; two and a half months later, still nothing. I think I'll wait until the first week of October before shooting Mr. Istwan an email to see where I'm at.

It'd be nice to get small-pooled, but it seems we don't need to be to get offered an interview, so I am not too worried yet.
