Really? I've been passed over again? Why don't they just reject me already and stop stringing me along! Am I just at the bottom of an ever-expanding continue to review list?

Adcom Member: Alright, great meeting everyone, now we just gotta go through that small-pool pile once more and we're outta here...
Other Adcom Member: Hey! Here's that housefish26 guy again! Keep him in the pile again for next month boss?
Adcom Member: What? Oh yeah, this douche bag...Back to the bottom you go! BWA HA HA HA!
All Adcom members together: [Maniacal laughter]

Oh, and congrats to those who did receive interviews today. Any 8/18 small-poolers left?

You bet

At the mock interviews last week, I am pretty sure Mike Istwan said what we have defined as the "Jacuzzi" had around 1500 applicants withdrawn from it last year. I'd love to see the size of that jacuzzi!

Still love the school and am hoping for an invitation :xf:

Same. Maybe some of us are already saved for the WL interviews in spring?
I don't understand how a school can invite you to interview for a wait list spot. Couldn't they just offer waitlist positions to candidates already interviewed whom they did not accept?

Just curious about why MCW does this (WL interviews), and whether any other schools do, because I have never heard of this!

They do offer WL positions to some of the people who interviewed, but unlike some other schools who waitlist everyone, MCW waitlists some post-interview and rejects some post-interview (and accepts, obviously). They have a huge class, plus maybe they expect to have lots of waitlist movement so they don't want to get to August and have fewer people. Though that really doesn't seem likely for any school.

Anybody know if it helps to send a LOI to this school?
Been sitting in the small pool since early July!

I've got an interview scheduled for 11/20 but I don't think I'm going to be able to make it... Do you think it's best to call or email to cancel? Hopefully one of you guys will get the spot 🙂

I think it would be best to call. But that's just me

Been lurking for a while now, just sparked up an account today.

The MCW acceptance came via e-mail, and they weren't kidding when they said 7-10 days. I will have an MDapplicants account up soon so people can compare stats/etc.

Barring a fantastic scholarship from one of the other schools I applied to, I predict that I will be matriculating at MCW. The students, faculty, facilities, location, and various other elements of the school were extremely attractive to me. Most of all though, the other schools I visited weren't places I could see myself for the next four years. Best of luck to everyone in their respective journeys!

Congrats! Is that Vonnegut?

You should call to cancel. That way they can make arrangements to fill the spot right away. 🙂

Oh no that is in 10 days! They better call someone like me that is only 15 minutes away 😛

otts27: I sent a letter of interest with some EC updates, but still do not know if it will have any weight.

Congrats UWStudent!!!

Cool thanks for the explanation, Wheee. Other schools (who do not interview for WL spots) also reject post-interview as well, but I am guessing the large class at MCW requires them to do WL interviews in the process you described.

i think plenty of schools DO interview for waitlist spots only, they just aren't so upfront about it. they just interview you and put you on the WL.

i think it's good that MCW is transparent about it. I think it would definitely separate the applicant pool into those who truly want to attend and those who are just interviewing to get another acceptance. That way, once they get to the point where they start pulling from the waitlist, those people will actually be interested in attending.

In other news . . . anxiously awaiting my decision from them, which comes out on Friday!!! :scared: if i get in it will be my first acceptance! . . . but if i dont it will not be my first rejection 😳

Dang, I was small pooled on 10/16...looks like there's no hope for me 🙁

Dude. I got small-pooled September 4th and just this week received an invite. It's not too late.

We're talking about WL spots but they haven't been telling us that we're interviewing for them yet. As of now, they're still interviewing for spots in the class. IDK when they switched to WL spot interviews last year, but I know it was after New Year's. Keep your fingers crossed.

WL spots are usually after new years. If you are only interviewing for waitlist slots the email will explicitly say so

Does anyone know that interviewed if we will receive an acceptance via mail or email on Friday.

They mail something out on friday but for my interview group we also got an email with an acceptance on the same friday

they've got to stop with the thin envelopes! First the WI residency confirmation (before I even submitted), now the AMWA (after interview invite). They totally freaked me out. I thought they changed their mind or mistakenly emailed me.

Phew.

Oh, and a friend of mine who got accepted got an email notification the Friday after his interview, and then got the packet maybe on the Monday after that.

Thanks for the info! That is amazing they get back to you so quick.

Hmm I called just now and they said that they'd sent me a status update a few weeks back. I never got it. Pre-interview so it seems like its over for me here 🙁

Good luck guys!!

it's friday.
anyone get an acceptance notice via email?
good luck to all of us at forum!!

Just got the acceptance email! I could not be happier! I had to have the infamous third interview so for those of you that have to have a third one don't get discouraged. Good luck everyone!

ACCEPTED! Yay everyone 🙂 this is my first one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boardgal were you the girl with bobby pins in her hair . . . i saw you (?) get called for the 3rd and was worried . . . CONGRATS! (and if that wasnt you, well, i hope she got in too) 😀

My second interview really threw me off. The guy nitpicked everything I said, so when I saw Michael Istwan strolling around and trying to check out our nametags after the interviews I wanted to barf, I was SURE I was going to get called out for a third too.

Its nice that what they say is really true, though, that the 3rd one is NOT the kiss of death. Phew 😀

This is not an invitation to interview
Dear Applicant: Thank you for your continuing interest in the Medical College of Wisconsin.

The committee has completed its review of your application. It has been favorably reviewed and moved to a smaller pool of applicants who potentially will be invited to interview with us. That pool is still much larger than our interview schedule can accommodate. So, candidates are selected to receive an invitation by strength of credentials and completion date of application. If and when we get to your application in this process we will be happy to email you an invitation. Any further review of your application will occur only if you are interviewed.

Again, thank you for your interest.

Michael Istwan
Director of Admissions
i recieved this email on august 18th, and haven't heard anything from them since. 3.85 gpa, 33Q plus worked in healthcare and lots of volunteer and shadowing. should i be hearing something from them or has this long silence mean that i have been rejected already?????

Lots of people have been waiting in the jacuzzi for months. The jacuzzi smells and I'm ready to get out now, kthnx.

i was just notified of an acceptance today! (Exactly one week ago from my interview)

I'm so bummed that I didn't receive an email. Do all people who get acceptances receive emails? I thought I did pretty well. Gotta wait for the snail mail

Congrats to those who were accepted!

anyone know if oos can get instate tuition after 1 year at this school? thanks

no . . . the way they explained it to us is, to be a resident you have to live there for a year for non-educational purposes to be considered a resident. and what you save isn't enough to make it worth it to be there for a year without going to school (I think you only save something like 5-6k a year) because you're missing out on a year's salary on the other end. which would add up to more than you would save.

ah cool thanks. something else to consider when deciding whether or not to go to the interview

Does anyone know how much it costs to take a taxi from the airport to campus?

I would say it costs about 30-40 bucks. It isn't a short trip. The trip takes about 25 minutes w/o lots of traffic.

When the class is filled, you will be interviewing ONLY for waitlist spots. However, you can get waitlisted in October after an interview, depending on how things go.

how do they determine interview order. i was small pooled 8-18 and others have posted saying they were small pooled later and had already interviewed. i thought they interviewed on a first come first serve basis assuming you were qualified enough which i think i am. i called and they said i was still in the small pool pile. who knows, can only wait and see i guess.

my guess is that the first-come-first-served part only comes in to play once they decide to interview you. other than that, they get the say on who they'd like to interview, depending on whatever criteria they feel they're looking for.

anyone have know the location of a match list for this school? thanks!

To those interviewing 11/20: Is anyone getting to the airport significantly earlier than 7:30 on Thurs 11/19? I should be there around 4ish...was wondering if anyone wanted to split a cab to go to the campus and check it out before the orientation for the host program
