Anybody know the phone number that will get me to a person instead of a machine? Haha.

Pretty annoying, right? I was late to my interview because of snow and I wanted to give them a call. I got a machine so I couldn't even let them know!

If you tell them your situation, they'll probably help you out. At this stage people are canceling their interviews.

I did tell them and they kind of just shrugged me off saying they didn't have anything right now but I can try again later...I don't want to call them daily and bug the **** out of them but I also don't want to miss the date.

I'm highly debating whether to attend this interview or not.

I've been accepted to my state school and do not know where to even start as far as comparing the two. I do know that the cost difference might be 50 - 70k.

Edit: I have no problem flying out to the interview and trying to earn an acceptance. My only problem is trying to figure out how likely it is that I will attend over my other school, so I can give the opportunity of interviewing to someone who really needs it.

I would heavily research the schools and decide where you think you would be the most happy based on the location, culture & education. If you are content with your state school, then let someone else interview. But if you want to go to NYMC, then by all means, attend the interview. Remember that the point of the interview stage is for the AdCom to see if you ill fit in (both socially and academically) and for you to express your interest as a potential med student there. If there's no interest, then the interview will be a waste of everyone time.

Regardless, you still got into med school!

Late May, early June was when I saw most people accepted from the waitlist last year. A few were accepted in the months after.

They said at my interview they don't do one. He said they are looking to add one in the future, maybe this will be the year.

My understanding is they'll do it unofficially if you ask.

From what I've heard they definitely do a "come and see" / "second look" day... at least that's what current students told me they did last year -- sometime in late April.

One aspect of this school (both a strength and a weakness) is that a surprisingly large portion of it is run by students. This is probably coordinated by the student senate.

who do you send the letter of interest to? the head admissions person or the dean?

I just gave up and emailed one.

It seems simpler: read email, print, put in file.

This is true. I was in the exact same situation as you and I was able to change my interview to a (much) earlier date where I was already in the states for another interview. If they told you 'no' the first time call back and beg if you have to, just be as nice as possible about it. They sqeezed me in on a day where I don't think anyone had cancellled. Good luck!

Should have quoted this on the above post. Don't give up! It just takes talking to the right person. I basically said coming later just was not an option for me (well it was a $1000 plus missing at least a week of work option but it really was not feasible for me). Just keep at it : )

I recently received an interview invite after being complete last summer (I am interviewing the end of March if anyone is interested).
I would say NYMC still has quite a few spots left for the class of 2014 since the facebook group has 5 people in it.
Not to say there aren't tons of accepted people waiting for aid packages but if it's indicative of accepted students interest some other schools FB groups have many more.
This is great news for those of us who truly want to end up at NYMC like me!!!!!
Hope this eases the fears of any late interviewees like myself 😉

There's a La Quinta Inn right down the street from the school that I only paid $79 for.... best kept secret of NYMC!

noo not interviewing, I haven't heard back from NYMC so I was getting antsy. However, lots of ppl told they'll be interviewing for a while longer so I'm going to send an update on monday and persuade them to interview me.

went to college there too 🙂 which is why i laugh every time someone says a given medical school (like loyola chicago etc) is in a "dangerous" area. I think we can get through anything if we lived here for four years 😉

When I scheduled mine about a week ago, there were only 3 days in late april to choose from. Posters who tried to schedule later the same day said they didn't have any available openings, so I'm guessing they had to call to fit in somewhere. Once you schedule your interview, you no longer have access to the schedule.

They only give you a certain range to choose from. When I scheduled mine, the days ran from March 9th-19th or something like that. So that doesn't mean that all the interview dates are gone...just the ones you could choose from.

Historically (and by rumor) they interview through the first week of May-- your letter could not have hurt! Good luck

They told me the same thing yesterday. Called back this morning, told them my story, got an interview next Tuesday!! You just have to keep trying until you get someone nice! Good luck!!!

I am pretty sure they dont send confirmation on updates. I sent an update the second week of January, never got a confirmation and received an invite just a bit ago. You could probably try calling though!

I have been complete here since November, and haven't heard anything. And seeing that interview spots are filling up doesn't give me much hope. I am going to work on writing a LOI, for those that have already written one, where did you send it (like what e-mail add.?)

You can try, but it's an understatement to say that spots are filling up. Some people got an invite but no date because they're filled.

An LOI definitely cannot hurt at this point.
