^I'm not a doctor or anything, but I'd suggest the admissions office? Easily found on that world wide web thing.

really? the admissions office? It didn't occur to you that maybe I wanted to send it to someone more direct?

Well, you said "where," not "to whom." Honestly not trying to be a dick here. If you are looking for a specific person, say so.

Just withdrew my acceptance to NYMC. Hope one of you guys gets it!:luck:

Just got an acceptance email! My first acceptance! SO SO excited. :soexcited::soexcited:

congrats mpls.. good to see a fellow minnesotan accepted here

Anyone know if you weren't part of the recent mass rejection what your chance of an interview invite is??

Accepted!!! Low MCAT and bad interview, I dont know how this happened! But I'm so happy!

Is this an attempt at modesty, or are you strategically trying to say that despite a low MCAT and a "bad" interview (which is subjective, btw), you are still better than the rest who weren't accepted?

Congrats, nonetheless.

I'm sorry, that was absolutely not what I was saying. I just wasn't expecting to get in anywhere this year that's all, this is my one and only acceptance. I was just happy and shocked and wanted to share my excitement. I'm sorry if my comment was misinterpreted. I wish you the best of luck with everything. And my interview was in Jan.

Do you mind me asking what you scored on your MCAT and when was your application verified?

All these acceptances are making me happy, especially the 1st timers! 😛 Way to go guys! I really like NYMC, interviewed last week, hoping for good news, too!

Could someone tell me the deposit amount and due date? Thank you! If you accept the offer, can you retract it? 😕 Confused

I just happened to email them about this. I was rejected from my top choice yesterday and I'll likely matriculate at NYMC. Here's the info they gave me:

Yes, the fee is $100

Does anyone happen to have any info on the changes to the curriculum? Or maybe point me in the right direction? I know when I was there for my interview some of the students that stopped to talk to my group said they were changing it. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

has anyone tried calling to find out if/when NYMC's second look day is??

i would call - only i have NO IDEA what number i could call that actually lets me talk to a real person and not an automated message with options that lead nowhere.

also - all of you are are planning to matriculate to NYMC should join the FB group: just search New York Medical College Class of 2014!

As a first yr at NYMC I know of no MAJOR changes to the curriculum...ie it is still going to be Anatomy/Cell Biology first block, Biochemistry/Physiology second block and Neuroscience/Behavioral Science third block. The only change I know of was to combine classes that were in between 1st and 2nd block. These classes were Community and Preventative Medicine and Biostatistics and Epidemiology. Also of interest to anyone, originally as an incoming 1st year and pretty much for most of this year I thought our only clinical experience was via a class called IPC (introduction to primary care), but lo and behold we were informed that for behavioral sciences we will have 4 hospital visits throughout the month of May which I am quite excited about. Hope this helps and let me know if you guys have any other questions regarding curriculum or anything else.

How much time have the first years spent inside the hospital? Are these trips to the hospital at WMC?

It's about every other week, maybe a bit less frequent. It's meant to be exposure to primary care and practice patient interviews. It's a 1:1 experience, so finding 190 volunteer physicians is tough. Students are assigned to hospitals/offices/clinics in Westchester, NYC, NJ, and CT. Lecture is done by 12 so you get most of the day for it.

2nd year is a more intense, structured "clinical skills" course. This is just sort of getting our foot in the door.

I interviewed in mid January and did not hear anything this week. Several people did receive their acceptance email yesterday. Some of them interviewed before and after my interview date. Does this mean that I am rejected or wait listed? Are the results staggered over several weeks and are they released on any specific days of the week?

Whomever you interviewed with has to present your file to the adcom so if (s)he was a little slow or the adcom was backed up it will take longer for you to find out. So there is no way to know what not hearing means. I know the waiting sucks.

I haven't been rejected yet, but still no interview invite or anything...am I still being considered or what???????????????

Congrats on all who've been accepted, especially the first-timers- I share the same excitement, which lasted me a good week ...

Me, on the other hand, interviewed 1/12 and have heard ZIP. It's been like over 8 weeks... NYMC really takes their mighty old time getting back to students. The wait is awful, but I plan to attend elsewhere, so whatever news I get, it'll be a decline and spots can open up.

Why are you waiting for a response if you're certain to go elsewhere?

FREE THE DAMN SPOT!!! You're wasting NYMC's time as well as all these applicants. Do you think the response is slow on purpose? You're contributing to the problem.

Batz - that is totally SELFISH! Are you waiting to get accepted just to feel good about yourself?

I hear ya, i interviewed 12/22 and havent heard anything either....

He paid his hundred bucks he deserves to find out how it would have played out. Those who were gonna get in will get in there either way. He isn't hurting anyone's chance by not withdrawing now. And here come the applicant etiquitte flames.

my thoughts exactly...in fact i am waiting for an interview invite just so i can turn it down, but i wont withdraw before then b/c i want to get my hundred bucks' worth of entertainment...more likely though that ill just get rejected at this point 😡

Is NYMC still giving out interview invites? I've been complete since late September, almost no hope left

I tend to agree with these two. I've been placed on a number of waitlists, and yes waiting sucks, but I don't expect other people to withdraw on any timeline other than their own (within AAMC's rules). Despite the community that SDN has engendered, we're all in this as individuals, and I don't expect anyone to act in a way that helps me unless it is also in their own best interests. I personally am not going to hold any acceptances if there is no chance I will go there, but I do believe that for the hundreds of dollars spent per school on applications and interviewing, time lost at work, and the effort/stress of it all, I at least deserve a decision (accept, reject, waitlist) from the schools at which I interviewed.

It is outrageous that someone would hold a spot just for the 100 dollars .A community lives and dies on altruism. Therefore, if you have another spot, then give another person a chance. This is not sour grapes. The system should be a time limited period for notification and acceptance that is more compact than now.The schools are not innocent either. They charge for a potential interview and do a silent rejection. All I am saying is when you view mdapps and see people with multiple acceptances I question their sense of fairness. ego shmego. Moses said it best 'Let my spots go'

People with zero acceptances are scrambling to find alternate plans, others are facing relocation to out-of-area med schools, or shelling out large deposits on DO schools....

I can understand delaying the system for some actual benefit (holding out for a financial aid package). But doing it to brag about how many schools you got into? Do that, I and I say you suck.

You've missed the entire purpose of this journey, which was to find the best place for yourself to study medicine. You accomplished the goal, now you're impeding others. Not a quality that I like to see in my peers.

I'm all for holding on the acceptances until the finaid comes through, heck even after that some people just need more time to decide. We are in this for ourselves...
