Congrats on getting something.Waitlisted at this school turns positive most of the time.I interviewed in Jan and have heard nothing .My friend called the school and was told that they are still reviewing Jan and results are still going to come this week. I know that they are not meeting this week so I am confused at how there could be movement this week.

Interviewed 1/11, Accepted today (3/29)

Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear! This is my first acceptance and I have been waitlisted at the other schools where I interviewed (aside from one school I am still waiting to hear from) so it's a HUGE relief to have at least one acceptance. That said, the process will continue to be stressful as I wait to hear final decisions from other schools. I'm sure we can all relate on the fact that patience really is a virtue, so just keep that in mind and have positive thoughts! Good news is hopefully on the way for all of you!

I know how you feel. I am also waiting from my january interview. You never know what they are looking for in an applicant. The school told my friend also that more decisions will be coming this week but. I agree with Davis, if there are no meetings this week then how could there be more info.I hope by may 15 that all of this is sorted out.

There is a TON of WL movement at NYMC - do NOT get discouraged.

On my interview day, they told us that the current class has 194 students, and of those, 101 or 102 came off of the waitlist.

My only advice to those on the WL is to continue sending updates and Letters of Interest. I don't believe that NYMC ranks its waitlist - so the more you can prove to them that you reallly <3 NYMC and that you could really add to the student body at NYMC, i think the better chance you will have to get in off the WL.

I was wondering - if I eventually decide to call to plead my case, how should I get to a person? As I'm sure many of you have noticed, NYMC is all about the hotline. If I press 2 (reschedule an interview), do you think the person to whom I speak will be upset?

I got my WL email @ 6:04 AM. Someone got to work early !

Mine was at 9:04. Clearly, we have a slacker in the office.

Interviewed 1/15

Waitlisted 3/29.

There's still hope, though, so I'm holding out. And it's definitely better than being rejected, especially since I don't currently have any acceptances.

same... I had the same interview date and I'm waitlisted today as well.

Yea, I got waitlisted too (Interviewed 1/12, WT 3/29)... 9 am bright and early. Finally, some closure I guess. To those of you who'd really like to come hear, hope my withdrawal is of some use.

Feel free to ask anything about the school, in prep for interviews or med school apps in general.

For those staying on waitlist, it is unranked. When the WT mvt begins, the admissions committee will review all the WT candidates, so definitely send in updates, LOR, grades, etc... every bit counts. 👍

No news today. I am beginning to think that I am out of the game. Lots of movement yesterday and nothing today.

The only difference between me and the Titanic is the Titanic had a band. I am also on hold and do not know why it takes so long to get any response approaching 11 weeks.

for all those that were recently waitlisted, did you guys think your interviews went well.

I'm going to interview April 7th. On the 9th I'll be in NYC. I wanna do something fun. What would y'all recommend more... The Lion King play or Blue Man Group? or something else...

I saw the Lion King musical when I was in high school and thought it was so completely, thoroughly, utterly awesome.

Hopefully it'll stay warm and no typhoon hitting (we had some bad rainy weather for a bit)... bring sneakers and walk around alot. I got away with just my feet all 4 years, and soon i'll be depending on a damn car :scared:

Thanks! I always hear good things about it. I assume you're a big MJ fan. Have you seen Who's Bad? They're a Michael Jackson cover band and they are awesome!

Yeah, I hope it is warm and "sunny" (sky scrapers kinda inhibit that).

What is second day look? Are y'all like flying there just for that?

Just canceled my interview for 4/27. Good luck to everyone!

So I submitted early September and since then have heard nothing (No interview No Rejection just silence). Is it safe to assume by now I'm basically rejected?

I don't know- they've definitely rejected people who applied after you and they're still interviewing for almost a month. I wouldn't say it's likely you'll get an interview but it's not over til the fat lady sings 😛

Anyone stay with a student host? I was looking through the invite email and their website. They mention student hosts and say you need to contact them directly. Where's the list?

You have to email [email protected] to be connected to a student host. For more details, there is an attachment to the interview invite email. Hope that helps.

Thanks for all the helpful answers! I'm assuming you should have a decision soon, so good luck!

Gplex86 - would this mean by 2012/2013 it would be possible to have at least half of your rotations in NYC?

Update:

Today was the day that second year students get their third-year placements. From what I'm seeing (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) many students are happily reporting that "all", "most", or "all but one" of their rotations are in NYC - assuming that's what they wanted to get. Of course, not all of them are in the borough of Manhattan. And of course now they will start trading spots.

My intuition is that people ranked the Staten Island hospital (RUMC) more highly than they otherwise would have. Ironically, it's a former St. Vincent's hospital that was spun off a few years ago.

My point is, people are still be moving down to NYC.

By the way, the "lottery" system is not completely random. It works like this: you rank every possible combination of clinical sites. Then you get a random number. That number determines if you get your first choice, last choice, or something in between. Then you can officially swap placements with your classmates.

I'm here to say that it is possible to get all the rotations in NYC, but not all Manhattan. As gplex said, 2nd years got our rotation locations yesterday. I got all but 3 at Metropolitan Hospital (Manhattan). I have surgery in the Bronx and Peds & Psych at WMC. I don't mind commuting from the city, especially for my Peds rotation, because the Children's Hospital is AWESOME.

Also, to rank location spots was a bit different than schedule order. So you ranked specialty by location, as well as, what ones you wanted most.

For example:
I did not want to do anything in CT or Staten Island, so those went at the bottom. I really wanted Peds @ WMC, so that was ranked one. I also wanted to do Medicine @ Met so I ranked that 2. Things like Ob/Gyn, I just ranked the city location up higher.

Wow, you did pretty well! Yeah, the children's hospital is in high demand. People will stay in Westchester for it.

I wonder if they expanded the number of spots at Met?

are they still sending out interview invites? I just checked my status page and still no decision on me has been made. I wish they would hurry up and either reject me or give me an interview!

Does anyone know if NYMC offers merit-based scholarships? I completed all the financial aid stuff (Step One as they call it) but I didn't see anything about this type of aid.

They said on interview day they give out around 40 15 K scholarships.

i interviewed on 2/9. has anyone that interviewed on the same day or before heard anything yet...? 😱

Waitlisted this morning, interviewed 2/25

Wow, you heard sooner than expected huh? I interviewed exactly a week after you but I thought I wasn't gonna hear for another month at least. This makes me neeervous:scared:

Sorry it was a WL.

Congrats to the accepted guy!

Whoaaa, only a week from my date now...and the nerves just set in!

On another note, I sent in a thank you note to my interviewer via email to the Admissions Office, but they never confirmed receipt. I know they're easily annoyed so I don't want to bother them, but did anyone actually get a confirmation email saying they received your stuff or should I just take it for granted?

I've sent them several updates and a thank you letter. Never received any acknowledgment.

Hey Cdlub,

Have you received a reply back yet from NYMC hosting? They told me there are no more hosts available! 🙁

They told me the same thing. I guess I'll be paying for a room, ugh.

So questions 1. Why is there no class thread?? Someone has to be going to nymc next year! 2. Why isnt there anyone In the fb group really?? Same logic as above and 3. Anyone going to second look day? Ok that is all lol
