On my status page it says that I am on hold for a possible interview. Is this a good thing? Have they actually rejected anyone yet or is this the message everyone gets who hasn't been invited for interview yet?

I'm definitely interested in this school and would love to get an interview, but I don't know how good my chances are since I'm OOS.

do you mind sharing when you were complete? thanks =)

So the packet I got on my interview day said the class size is 120 but the OHSU website says 115. Anyone know which one is right?

Complete 10/6, but no news whatsoever. It says my file could be reviewed for up to 12 weeks. I'm just happy they should be telling me some news within the next 3 weeks. An interview would be great OHSU! :xf:

I heard somewhere that they will be expanding the class size from 115 to 120 for our year. Yay for us!

I know for sure that the class size has been 115 students for the last two classes because I interviewed both times and they mentioned this in the orientation. If really have decided to expand to 120 this year that is awesome!

complete 10/29, interview invite 12/4. (a little lag time, I know... I've been in the woods, ok?)

The MS1 class this year was changed last minute to 120 during our application process. I do remember hearing that the previous class was cut to 115 due to budget restrictions that year.

I believe OHSU's finances are better than the last two years, so hopefully it'll stay at 120! Good luck everybody!

I'm from PA and have yet to hear back from Temple or Drexel, but have just gotten an invite from OHSU! Stoked! (I seem to be getting OOS love but no IS. Go figure!)

!!!!! just got an invite! super excited about this one!

oos, complete mid-late oct. dates available are mid to late jan.

Damn... looks like they passed over my complete date and no invite... guess that means silent rejection?

Congrats tho! Would have loved to check this school out!

is it possible to stay with student hosts here? If not what hotels are cheap/decent near the school? Is there a marriot by the school? I can stay there free lol.

Also id assume you fly into portland intl?

And did anyone get a pdf file with their invite about diversity coordinator and meeting with them. It was like 3 pgs and listed all the different clubs or groups or something they offer from racial to LGBT. Just curious if we all get this or if i only did because i applied disadvantaged. Did anyone meet with them on the interview day? How was it? 🙂

Yes, you can stay with student hosts - there should be contact info for the student admissions liasons when you receive your interview invitation. They'll just ask you for a brief bio - then they'll send an email out to the 1st and 2nd years and someone will volunteer to host you. You can add on preferences for host gender/housing location/dual degree program/pets if you want, but it may take longer to find someone for you.

And (not sure if you're joking or not, but) there are 2 Marriott's in Portland. One is by waterfront park, which would make getting to OHSU a little tricky, but the other is a Marriott Residence Inn very close to the aerial tram. It would be a pretty convenient place to stay if you don't mind paying $5ish bucks to ride the tram up in the morning.

Yep. You can get to downtown or the hill pretty easily on public transit, too. Just hop onto the MAX, and get off downtown (someplace central like pioneer courthouse square works well). Then hop on the #8 bus up the hill, or grab a bus to wherever your host is.

I'm not sure whether or not everyone got that packet, but I would suggest meeting with the diversity coordinator if you have the chance. OHSU's center for multicultural and diversity affairs used to be much larger, but it closed last year (much to the outrage of students). The programs that remain are strong, and the faculty and students involved are very devoted to them. They are always looking for new people to "carry on the torch". There are some excellent opportunities (aside from the interest groups, there are mentorship programs that med students run for high school and college students, and there are several smaller weekend programs aimed at introducing medicine and the application process to high school and college level premeds).

I don't want to give false hope to anyone, but I have heard that OHSU's interview season goes later into the spring and that they tend to interview a lot of IS applicants as it gets later in the cycle. Maybe they figure the IS applicants can come by on short notice?

Just remember it ain't over till it's over (that's what I keep telling myself 🙂 )

I didn't write anything for the adversity section and I did receive that pdf file. I think everyone got it.

Does anyone know if applicants interview with one doc that's on the admissions board and one doc that's not? Do some people interview with two docs that aren't on the board?

One of your interviewers will be on the committee, with the other being what I understand to be something of a warm-up/second opinion.

Do you know if they hold the same weight?

Anyone interviewing here tomorrow? I'm getting nervous. :scared:

It was explained to me that only the interviewer on the adcom had any real influence. The second interviewer, however, can speak with your primary interviewer and influence his decision. That being said, my secondary interviewer took very few notes during the interview. I know, confusing....

How do you guys know who of your interviewers was the one on the adcom?

I don't remember getting told which one was on the admissions committee, but it was seemed obvious for me since one of my interviewers had been at OHSU for a few months and the other for a few decades. This is a crazy process though, so maybe this is a far fetched assumption. Either way, I don't think they would explicitly tell you and the scores from each interview are supposedly averaged so both are roughly equal in importance. I realize this kind of contradicts what jdwmont said, so maybe it's somewhere in between.

One of my interviewers explicitely said he was not on the committee and that he would only communicate w/primary interviewer. However, that was just my experience. Who knows how it actually goes down when the committee meets.

I stand corrected, I guess it varies with the interviewers concerning whether or not they tell you if they are on the committee. I definitely understood it to be the same as you said with the interviewer not on the committee communicating through the interviewer on the committee. My understanding though is that they still give us a score and that each interview score carries the same weight. So whether they are in the committee meeting or not, they have an impact on what happens. Like you said though, who knows what actually happens.

anyone hear anything (interview/rejection) after being complete the first week of November?

I was complete 11/6 and last Friday my status was updated to "you are currently on hold for an interview, pending further review". It looks like the adcom is not scheduled to meet again until Dec. 31. You may hear back shortly after that.

i was complete about a month before and have the same msg, oos!

Question for those who interviewed with OHSU. Were you questioned about your committment to primary care and working in underserved areas? I was reading the website and they mentioned that is a factor when selecting the incoming class. I didn't see any questions in the interview feedback, but was wondering how and if they approached the subject. Thanks

No. Just the typical "why medicine". One interviewer did ask what field I was interested in, but didn't push much further past that. And for what it's worth, I was interviewed by a cardiologist and a vascular surgeon.

i don't remember where i posted that quote but i think i was talking about getting invited or put on hold for an interview. also looks like it is true.

happy holidays

IS, complete 10/23. On hold today, 12/17. Blah.👎

What does an on hold message say? Is it different from "Your file is currently being screened in the interview selection process".

Also, are you OOS or IS?

Your file has been screened and is currently on hold for an interview, pending further review.

I am IS. Nope your file hasn't been looked at yet if it says that it's currently being screened. The hold message says:
Your file has been screened and is currently on hold for an interview, pending further review. Due to the competitiveness and size of the applicant pool, some applicants are placed on hold until the entire pool has been assessed. As soon as a final decision has been made we will notify you immediately. This decision may not be rendered until the end of February.

EDIT:
Oh yeah I applied for the MD/MPH program if that helps anyone. I am not sure if the dual degree app may have ushered in a hold status (?). I have slightly above avg stats (if a little less clinical experience) so I thought I'd at least get an interview. Maybe later in the cycle... Good luck to everyone else and happy holidays!
