Interviewed 12/1. Hold. Dang it!

Sorry Chuck. Hopefully an acceptance will follow the hold soon. I interviewed 12/1 and live in pdx. I was really anxious to check my mail today after work. However, nothing yet...

I didn't receive an e-mail yesterday either. I found out on the OHSU login portal thing.

Just to give everyone on hold hope here's my math: For 550 interviewers- if 15% (83) are accepted and 15% (83) are rejected before May 15th and 210 acceptances are eventually given, then 127 of the 384 on hold get acceptances. 210/550 is 38.2% and 127/384 is 33.1% so the odds don't change that much.

On that note, it is really fun waiting most likely til May 15th.

Don't forget to factor in the instate probability. Your probability of getting accepted off of hold is greater than 32% if your instate (since 70% of the incoming class is instate) but your probability of getting accepted off of hold is less than 32% if you are out of state. The only way this wouldn't be a factor is if their hold list was 70% instate and 70% of those that they interview are instate (which could very well be true).

From the interview day I got the impression that most people will be put on hold. So a "hold" at OHSU is not necessarily a bad thing. And they said that they are very conservative initially but that they progressively lower the bar until they have given enough acceptances. So there is a good chance you will hear before May 15.

On another note, I interviewed OOS and my interviewer told me that once you get an interview, it does not matter if you are IS/OOS with respect to an acceptance; it is a level playing field.

Yeah I heard that IS/OOS too. I think they interview mostly IS that's why there is a higher IS ratio.

Also, I'm wondering if those already accepted have really high MCATs and GPAs, that's why they're over the acceptance bar. I'm on hold with a 30 MCAT and a 3.3 GPA so I'm a little below average with respect to those numbers for average applicants with acceptances.

I got in this weekend (interviewed 12/1) and I don't have terribly impressive numbers. ~3.5 science GPA and a 33T. I am in-state, though, so I'm sure that helped. Hope you get in off hold!

congrats felisconcolor! I hope to be in your position soon! I'm interviewing tomorrow! btw: how did you feel your interviews went?

Do you mind sharing how you were notified?.. snail mail, phone-call, e-mail?

btw, congrats.

Thanks so much! I felt like they went okay... the first interview was pretty standard, while during the second one I got grilled (e.g. "So you don't think universal health care would work?... because it works in Israel, the UK, Canada...."), but both of the physicians were friendly enough. The only frustrating thing to me is that neither one of them had much familiarity with the med school itself; both did research or worked in the hospital primarily. They lasted between half an hour and 45 minutes.

Just keep in mind the mission of OHSU--primary care to underserved and rural populations, and preventative medicine--and you'll be fine! Good luck!

hmph. no status change or email for me, yet. drats!

Hey, so just wanted to see if anyone else is approaching the 12 week mark on their application. My application was complete 10 weeks ago and I am starting to get really worried because my status has not changed:

Your file is currently being screened in the interview selection process. Please note that due to the large number of files in our applicant pool, this screening may take up to 12 weeks. As soon as a decision is made on your application, you will be notified. The Admissions Committee interviews prospective candidates from October through mid-April.

Overall GPA: 3.75
Science GPA: 3.58
MCAT: 35O

I'm an out of state applicant so I am just wondering if these stats are good enough... anyone with similar credentials get an interview?

Is the average MCAT score for accepted applicants really 31? I have a 30 and I haven't seen anyone on these posts that also has an MCAT score below 31.

So Friday should be another big day to hear for acceptances right!? I think that's my 6 week mark.

my six week mark is today, and i haven't heard a word. so don't get your hopes up.

Congrats on getting in!! How long did it take between completing your application and getting an interview?

hey i've been complete since early october and still am hanging out.

Just got an acceptance email!! I interviewed on Dec 2nd.

for those of you guys who have been waiting for well over 12 weeks, I think I'm at like 15 or something, has anyone tried calling to see where things are?

i called them right on my 12-week mark. got an interview the same day. not sure if that was a coincidence or not.

to those who have interviewed, is it true that the interviewers don't know your mcat/gpa?

I just called and was basically told that they screen/interview from their "mission-based groups" first and in the past they have not tapped into the "non-mission-based groups" to fill seats. It basically sounded like if you are not in that category you will be getting a rejection letter in the next few weeks.

haha great. ill look forward to that then.

what's a "mission- based group"?

I'm OOS (east coast) and I interviewed w/ OHSU this week.
32Q, cGPA 3.83, sGPA 3.73. Non-trad. I'd say you're competitive, but how these schools choose who they interview/accept/etc makes not sense to me.

I believe it was the groups that were listed in that e-mail we got when you get a secondary request.
Basically people IS, from Montana or Wyoming (?), "diverse" students, and I think the "superior academics" group was 3.65+ and 32+ MCAT. I found it on their website somewhere. These were the only categories I could find so I am assuming this is their "mission-based groups". That diversity group, however, has such broad wording that almost anyone could fit into it.

Has anyone with an MCAT lower than 32 been accepted yet? I'm wondering if the acceptance bar is currently set high so only these applicants are being accepted right now.

I was accepted with a 31 MCAT and an average GPA. Last year I was rejected outright with the exact same stats. Go figure.

I think you guys are right about them having different "bars" for different groups, and I don't think there's a set stat bar. (I'm in one of the priority groups; I'm IS--though I was told during my unsuccessful run last year that IS vs. OOS is not taken into account post interview.)

Hi Go Ducks,

If you don't mind sharing, what changed in your application from last year to this year? A significantly better interview? More relevant experiences? Apparent commitment to medicine? Apparent maturity? Thanks! And congratulations.

Best,
Ascenda

Does the "Your secondary application has been processed" come when the secondary application is considered complete or after the admissions committee has reviewed your application?

How do interview invites get sent out? Anyone?

Has anyone who interviewed on 12/3 or after heard anything? Or anyone else had to wait over 6 weeks post-interview? Even though the odds are I'll end up on hold, it would be great to hear something very soon.

I interviewed on 11/18, and I haven't heard anything. I'm guessing my adcom interviewer had an extended vacation or couldn't get to the meetings? No doubt the holidays have slowed things down a bit.

right there with ya! just passed my 14th week! did you call them?

I'm not sure with the 1st question, but interview invites get sent out by email and then you call to set up an interview based on several optional dates they give you.

nice. yeah basically they told me that the online status is the most recent thing and they're still giving out interviews and to hang tight. sounds a little different from the mission applicant thing above, but i guess ill just hold onto hope.

wow ok did you bring it up on your own or did she point it out?

Does anyone know when they start contacting the post-interview hold people?

I interviewed on 12/3 and haven't heard anything yet ...

She straight up told me (in as nice a way as possible). I would suggest calling. They tell you to check your status online but if you say its been more than 12 weeks, they'll check for you.

After 11 Weeks, just got the message :

Your file has been screened and is currently on hold for an interview, pending further review. Due to the competitiveness and size of the applicant pool, some applicants are placed on hold until the entire pool has been assessed. As soon as a final decision has been made we will notify you immediately. This decision may not be rendered until the end of February.
🙁

Is this common or do most people with this message get rejected?
