Well, I guess I jinxed myself with my little joke...got a letter yesterday saying I was on the waitlist. I'm not even very high on the list, so I think it's time I withdraw. Congratulations no. 39 on the waitlist - you're now no. 38.

I'm 42 so thanks, lol.

So, out of curiosity, any of you single digit IS waitlisters planning on deferring or going elsewhere? And does anyone know if they over accepted for IS or if they took the exact amount?

Take this at your own interpretation because I am not certain what the admissions office meant exactly, but when i called last week she volunteered that they filled the class plus 20 spots and then have a waitlist I am not sure if they meant they overfill. However since the waitlist is 50 deep maybe they do overfill by 20 spots. Also an in stater here, but I live out of state and am waiting for the mail...👎

I'm in CT. Looking to get my letter in the mail this week, I guess. I honestly don't know how to feel about there not being any OOS'rs getting accepted. I guess I'd rather not know than be rejected, but please feel welcomed to offer me any hope. Just to warn everyone, I'm probably gonna be like, " any OOS'rs get accepted yet?" everyday until i get my letter. But i know you all can handle a little more neurotic behavior. Congrats to all those accepted, my condolences to those rejected, and hoo-rah to all those still in the trenches with me.

lol, waitlist is at least 60-some (hi!) and i think someone a page or two ago said they were 100+. whoa.

is IS/OOS waitlist separate or combined? they probably still pick and choose anyway to fill an even, diverse class, but I'm wondering if we're all together.

they are separate, i know the OSS WL is much bigger, I heard one of the admissions staff say at least 1/3 of those OSS waitlisters will withdraw for a number of reasons.

and they cant pick and choose, waitlisters are given a number and it goes from there. Its not just a pool of people they choose from

I called the admissions office this morning to get some clarification on things on the OOS alternate list. The lady explained to me that they DID over accept OOS people this year by 60. Apparently I was wrong though, and they have done this for the last 5 years or so. So last year, when they only took 3 people off the waitlist, was a VERY unusual year. Lets just hope that this year isn't like last year.

just got rejected by snail mail. Sucks, really liked the school.

What about instate people? How many people did they over accept?

I'm OOS, so I didn't ask, but I'm betting it's the same as whatever it was last year and you could probably find that number on last year's thread.

no email so far, so probably waitlisted or rejected. Still waiting on the mail(OS)

Waitlisted, in state, see ya next cycle guys. 🙄

OOS student accepted 🙂 Found out via email Friday. I've heard of SDN but I've never visited the website until today. I'm posting to emphasize that there's really no pattern to Iowa's acceptances because I have a 3.96 cumulative/3.95 math science but a 30 MCAT.

I'm a clinical researcher this year and I'm published, so maybe that counterbalanced the lower MCAT score.

To all those rejected - keep your chin up and maintain tenacity. That's what it took to get you this far and that's what will take to get you on the other side of this (admittedly tortuous) process. Good luck!

Does anyone know when Iowa will be sending out the first update on where people stand on the WL?

This is driving me insane. I didn't think ahead and went out of town. I won't get my letter until next week. Obviously, I didn't get the e-mail, so I hope I am on the wait list.

Has anybody talked to one of the admissions staff about why you were rejected over the phone instead of making an appointment?

OOS. Accepted back in November.

does anyone else feel like the dell e6400 that we're required to get blows? for $1100, you get 3 gigs of ram, a 160 gig hard drive, no hdmi, no led screen, no dvd burner, and no HD resolution. this thing is worth $450 at most. and it seems like there's no way to get around having to get it. weak.

I think it's because the lost and stolen insurance that jacks the price up.

thats true, but still an awful deal for anyone that already has a good computer. why can't we just have them configure our computers for the online exams? that would be much smarter in my opinion.

👍
They should give us $1100 to go shop for our own laptops and give us some installation CDs or have us bring the laptops to them so they can load whatever software they need to load. Those specs really are crappy.

Just got back from spring break... letter in the mailbox. #26 on OOS alternate list. I'm happy with it, considering how late I applied --- I'm just glad I didn't get rejected outright 🙂

In state alternate list low 20's. I would have felt much better if I were a few spots lower.

After that story in Philly, I'm not sure I want a laptop I don't have complete control over.

Agreed on the laptops! I love the computer I already have and there is nothing wrong with it!!! Boo to this policy.

they didn't mention anything about a computer requirement at the interviews!! They must have recently decided on this. I'm not in favor, especially when we can buy our own computers with the necessary requirements which work better and are cheaper.

I think the computer policy is new for this year.

the instate waitlist is officially mobile my friends. don't lose hope, and best of luck to all of you =)

Does anybody know if they will update the waitlist after the 25th?

I was told an email update will be sent next week. I am OOS, but I'm assuming they'll do the same for IS.

hmm... I wonder what the OOS list is doing. there's 60 over-filled spots to knock off before the list starts moving........... I don't really want to call this soon but I wonder if they would even tell you how close they are to dipping into the alt list, or if they wait until the over-fill is gone...

Could you expand on this? I'm hoping you mean that you moved up the list; if so, mind letting us know what general area you were in? (50th is going to move up pretty quick, but still unlikely to get in...)

I hope you don't mean that it can be rearranged. Because I kind of like my spot...

i was #1 on the instate waitlist, and i got accepted this morning, so all of you guys moved up at least one spot =) i'm rooting for you guys.

I like hearing posts like this 👍

I started off number 22 on the IS list and emailed today and now am number 20. Admissions also told me that some of the people on the IS list still havent replied if they want to stay on it or not so maybe they have other offers? Good luck to all.

Nice work, You beat me by one spot on the IS waitlist haha. Here's to some luck for the both of us :luck:

Has anyone on the OOS waitlist called recently to see what it's doing?

I called today to discuss the reasons why I was put on the waitlist versus being accepted, anyways they informed me that the instate waitlist has moved 3 spots so far for those of you keeping track.

I e-mailed the office today. They said that they are over accepted by 49 people currently for the OOS waitlist. Also no movement occurred in the first 4 people (I'm still #4). They also said they would update us about every 3 weeks.
