congratulations!!!!!!! 😀 😀 😀

still waiting here... did anybody who is still on the waitlist send a letter of intent? i'm not sure how much good it will do at this point but i figure it never hurts to put in the extra effort.

Yup, It was off the waitlist. So they are def working on it.

Well congrats I think it was you who were interviewed the same day ass me (from springfield right)? But yeah being on the wait list is killing me with every passing day 🙂

I went back and forth for awhile...finally wound up sending one in the other day. Just a short LOI, don't know if it will do any good, but I don't think it can hurt? And I knew personally that I would kick myself if I didn't send one and then didn't get in off the waitlist. So we'll see!

Good luck to everyone waiting...I'm assuming everyone else is as anxious as I am! Hopefully we'll hear soon!

Accepted

interviewed 1/27, waitlisted 4/9 and accepted 5/18.

I wrote an update letter right after being waitlisted and although it wasn't specifically a letter of intent I did state that Umass remained my top choice. Good luck to those still waiting.

Who do I make the LOI to?

JClass - I addressed mine to Dr. Paraskos (Associate Dean of Admissions).

let's hope more WL kids get good news :xf:

I am also on the wait list and really, really, really want to get in.

If anyone who got accepted from the wait list in that big group on Tuesday the 11th is still reading: by when do you have to send a deposit in? And are you definitely accepting the offer? And, are you in at another school?

I'm guessing that UMass will extend another (much smaller) group of wait list offers once they know how many seats they still have unfilled after the people from the 11th respond.

I was really surprised there wasn't a big round of wait list offers right after the 15th, but I guess that means UMass gave their wait list offers earlier, which means those people will have to decide earlier, which hopefully means good news will arrive earlier for the rest of us still waiting! I'm guessing they have about 2 weeks to respond, so hopefully a small group of spots will become available soon!

Just wanted to throw the theory out there, and commiserate with all of you still waiting. It's SO hard. I am completely anxious. I'm glad there are other people out there who can relate to how nervous I feel about this whole thing -- it's driving me crazy!! I'm actually in somewhere else, but Umass is the better option for me for a ton of reasons, and I REALLY hope they pull through.

I actually received two acceptances on the 11th and ultimately decided to attend UMass. From what I understood, I had to make a decision before the 15th, but I don't know if that was necessarily true. Either way, I made my official decision on the 14th. Good luck to you, and I hope you get in.

So i emailed the office about the mac plus the free ipod touch and YES you do get a FREE ipod touch if you buy the MAC. Horray!
Send in your forms by the 31st.

Wow really? Did they say which type (8, 32 or 64 GB)? That's pretty sweet.

EDIT: nvm I think the 8GB is the standard one they give with macbooks.

I'm here and neurotic as ever. I wish they shaved a month off this process so that 99% of the movement was done by May 15, not June 15th.

I want to get a job for next year if this doesn't pan out..

I do not have any other wait list or acceptance offers, so it is a tough wait.

sorry about your situation, featherpen. my friend is in a similar one as well, and i hope she (and you!) get off the waitlist.
but i hear ya about the timing. at this rate i've sort of given up hope on getting off the waitlist but mostly because i'm anxious about where to move, etc.

I've taken myself off of the UMass waitlist. Decided I'm going to Pittsburgh either way! Good luck to you guys who are still on the waitlist! And congrats to everyone who got in. I thought UMass was awesome.

Hey - I'm sorry for you 🙁 That is a really crappy situation to be in. If I were you I would act as if you were not going to get in, so start looking for jobs, gettin ready to reapply etc. That way, it will be AWESOME if you get in but you will have a solid plan B. I saw your other post about how many schools to apply to - I think this may have been your one big mistake. <8 is taking a Major risk - like, MAJOR. Do Not apply to so few schools next year if you end up having to reapply. I would apply to 15 schools Absolute Minimum. 25 is better. I know this will be a Major pain in the ass and $$$ but your numbers are solid, you just need to apply to more schools. Also, take the time to lengthen and strengthen your PS. I had to take out 3/4 of mine because I had so much to say!. Show them the passion that you seem to have (I'm convinced that anyone that spends time searching about what strangers are saying about this insane process has passion). Obviously I am just one person but I think you are shooting yourself in the foot if you go through the process in the same way a second time. Your gpa is considerably higher than mine, mcat is same but mine was 10 11 12, I applied to 25 programs, got into 1 MD, 1 DO. The 1 MD happened to be my first choice but Many people only get into 1 program. I am rooting for you! Good luck!

Anna - if you don't get in, UNE will be awesome! I met such great people there when I visited and I know 2 absolute amazing grads. I hope your umass dreams come true but at least you have a great back up option 😳

Are there any fellow Colby College alums here!?

I guess its over 🙁 ah well at least I have one MD acceptance I'm going to move foreword on it until proven other wise, but I think this late in the game it's a done deal 🙁 🙂 good luck to all waiting still

i'm on the same mentality as you at this point. it's great you've got another MD program to go to. although i've lost almost all hope, i'm still staying on the WL to see if a miracle will happen, it seems like waitlist movement has been slow and quiet this year. ah well

Guys, don't give up! I was accepted yesterday off the waitlist via phone call, so there is still movement! I was WLed on April 14, and I did send a LOI around May 15th.

Very excited, and definitely wishing the rest of you the best!

Wow!! that is so wonderful and exciting -- congrats!!

Did you accept on the spot? Do you know how long they're giving at this point to make a decision?

I called back today and accepted. She didn't say exactly how long I would have to decide- she more asked how long I would need until I knew. So don't rush, but hurry up! It seems like they are looking for quick repsonses though.

And thanks!

Hey everyone! Thought I'd let y'all know that I just officially withdrew my acceptance to UMass - hope one of you get it.

Did anyone else get an email this morning about a Background Check?

hey everyone, i got a phone call this morning from admissions, and i got off the wait list!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it's been a wonderful day! 😀

everyone still waiting, please hang in there! it could happen any day!

I got a background check email too. Are they just toying with us?

Congrats Anna! So awesome to hear they're still taking people.

Congrats Anna!

What did the background check email say?

"You have received this email because you have been waitlisted or conditionally accepted by one or more of the medical schools participating in the AAMC-facilitated program for performing criminal background checks on conditionally accepted applicants and waiting list applicants. Please note that the requesting medical school will be notified if consent is not provided, and that failure to provide consent may result in failing to meet the requesting medical school's admissions requirements"

There's also another email from amcas with a link to this page: http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/faq/background.htm

I am on three schools' wait lists and they are all listed on this website, so that may have something to do with it. If you didn't get the email yet, I really wouldn't read too much into it.

Thanks. I am in somewhere else so I already did this -- I just hope UMass can "see" that and that's why they didn't request one from me. But reading into things I guess will just drive me crazy.

Anna - I told myself that, until you got in, I wouldn't. This is simply because you were wait listed a couple weeks before me. Illogical as I may be, I am still very happy for you!

So are we thinking that people are coming off the wait list in the order they were put on it? I was waitlisted on 4/20 or somewhere around then, so I guess that doesn't bode well...

I know that in the past, people have been WL'd 5/5 and accepted a couple weeks later. During the same cycle, people were left stranded after being WL'd weeks before 5/5. SO, I do not think its a hard and fast rule by any means. I believe that maintaining a certain class demography is most important.

Anddd if it makes you feel better, I was WL'd the same time as you. 🙂

i'm not sure if the date you were WL has anything to do with when you got off... i've been on the WL since 04/02 and it seems like people who were WLed after me got off before me. i almost signed a lease for a condo in maine too, thank goodness i didn't!

maybe it is a demographic balance thing? i'm an asian american female. it's sure not a GPA/MCAT thing b/c my stats really aren't very competitive (3.3/29R).

keep the faith though! anything can happen between now and august. i really hope more people get off the WL and wish everyone the best of luck!

This may be a stupid question but does anyone know when we're going to receive information on the start of school? Like schedule, book info, supplies, email address, etc. I was accepted recently and just want to make sure I haven't missed anything. Thanks.

Anna - This is FANTASTIC! I am so happy for you! Are you sooooo pumped???

congratulations pmy!!! i'm sure they will send it out soon? they wouldn't let you start without that information. i was accepted recently too and i've only received forms to fill in and submit such as background check, blood borne pathogens, laptop preference, and financial aid.

thanks holyhekshler! i am SOOOOOOO excited! i really thought the day would never come. i found out while on vacation in LA too and it just made my vacation. now we're looking forward to buying a house, being closer to family and friends, and learning from a wonderful medical school!

Congrats to getting in off the waislist! It's a great feeling...and good luck to everyone waiting! My fingers are crossed 🙂

I'm not sure if anyone who's accepted is still reading, but I'm wondering if anyone else is still looking for roommates/apts? I was accepted recently, so I didn't get to go to Second Look and get any of the roommate information! I'm just beginning the search, and so far it's going slowly... If anyone is looking for a roomie, let me know! I'm from the area, so I don't mind heading up to look at places!

is anyone trying to get the school to let them use a computer they already own?

i sent in the laptop preference form not knowing that my fiance got me a mac book pro for my birthday, and i called admissions and she was very adamant that incoming students MUST purchase a laptop from the school. i can definitely return my laptop to apple, but i just feel awful since it was a really generous gift. any experiences from anyone?

They won't let you - this came up at orientation. You are still paying for the school computer..around $1800, maybe your fiance would just pay for the school computer and consider it an even swap?

Hey everyone! Congrats to everyone who got accepted and good luck to those still waiting. I was in Worcester yesterday to look at apartments and decided to stop by UMASS to ask some questions. To those who are interested, this is what I found out.

Apparently, first years will not be allowed to park on campus next year. Instead, there will be two shuttle lots where you can park, and a bus will come and take you to the school. I was told that students wishing to park in the shuttle lot will be asked for their preference in terms of which one they want to park in.

A previous SDNer posted a comment stating that those who chose the Macbook would receive a free iPod touch. Well, they are no longer doing that. Instead, UMASS is giving the students who chose the Macbook a $200 price reduction, which is awesome.

In terms of books, I was told we would receive that information during orientation so don't worry about it.

Hope you guys found this useful. Enjoy the rest of your summer and see you in August!
