I got an invite today and will be scheduling it for the 3rd Thurs & Fri in October (yay! invites for both campuses!). I'm really looking forward to it.

No idea when I was complete since MDapps sucks now :d
 
Interview today too! I scheduled it for the 9th, so I have an interview on Friday the 9th, Monday the 12th, and Tuesday the 13th on different sides of the country.

I've got to drive from Orlando to Miami to Tampa all within 48 hours... bah I feel ya!

Jacksonville (work/home) to Miami (interview) to Palm Beach Gardens (work) to Tampa (family) to Gainesville (interview) to Jacksonville (work/home). I feel ya man...

I will also probably have to drive to Orlando the week before for another work project (not a UCF interview :d...yet).
 
Man, I wish the in-state schools would show me some love :/

I'm heading on a 4 hour road trip to Tally in a couple hours... then I've got Miami (interview), Tampa (interview), and MEPS (military processing in Tampa) 3 days back to back next month... you've got me beat though.

Man, last year I only got one too, at UF. I think the in-state schools on the whole don't like me or something.
 
I think I will beat everyone with this... Flying from Syracuse, NY to Mobile, AL on Oct 6th for an Oct 7th interview. Then flying to Miami, FL on Oct 7th for an Oct 8th and 9th Interview in Boca Raton and Miami. Then on Oct 9th its back to Syracuse. I drive 6hrs Oct 10th home to Maryland. Oct 12 I drive to Richmond, VA for interview on Oct 13th. Then I drive to Norfolk, VA for another interview on Oct 14th. Then Oct 14th I drive 11 hrs back to school...

I cant wait!!!!

Also, I'm happy to see you'll be at Miami coming up. You heard from USF COM? I didn't know they sent anything out yet.
 
Is there an easy way to get to Boca Raton from Miami on public transportation? I really don't want to have to pay a young driver fee on a rental car...

sorry. the only thing is TRI-Rail...which is very iffy...and difficult to get to... i am orignally from S.FLA, just took MCAT on FAU campus and went undergrad to Miami.
Best bet is to see if anyone can swing you back up to Boca when they leave their Miami interview. FAU campus is right off the I-95...so you wouldn't be inconvienencing anyone to just drop you off.
i highly suggest getting ur own car if needs be....
however, now i live in LA and am also used to driving to somewhere five minutes away....so might have an off viewpoint
 
Interview invite!!

Anyone know when Miami actually started conducting interviews?? I'm early October but just curious if they started interviewing people long before this.
 
I'm pretty sure the first day was 9/21. They sent out the first invites on 9/14, so I can't imagine there were any earlier than that, and that was one of the days listed on my e-mail.
 
Are there still people that aren't even complete??? Because I submitted on 8/24

I'm OOS. Got an invite, and made Nov. 3 my interview date. They said that they were going to send me more information about the interview, but I wasn't sure if it's through mail or email. I haven't received anything and I would like to make reservations or a flight. Can anyone tell me if they get the info through mail or email?

I was offered interviews at both campuses. I scheduled dates that day. About a week later, I got info in the form of an email on where to go for the Miami one. Haven't heard anything from the Boca one...I'll call them tomorrow.

I only applied for Boca Raton, and will probably fly to Fort Lauderdale.

I guess I will wait a week and then give them a call if I don't get anything. Thanks and good luck!
 
Do you think I should call and make sure everything is ok? it has been forever since I submitted. This is the only school I am not complete at.

Yea, give them a call. I don't think they notify you if you're complete. I called a few days ago and they promptly told me that I was complete.
 
ha I was complete! They told me on the phone last time that they would send an email when I was complete. weird. oh well. That was the last one I was waiting on for completion!

I got the complete email finally, but I had to email twice asking! (and i emailed only because way back when I called they told me they couldn't tell me my status over the phone . . . ) 🙄

So congrats to all of you with interviews . . . Is Yimmie the only OOS so far? Do you mind sharing your stats? 🙂 I'm not holding out a ton of hope for Miami, but an interview would be a welcome and happy surprise
 
The miami campus does have student hosting, if I remember correctly, the information is sent via email a week before your interview. Also we just started to interview for those who wanted to know. I think the first interview we had was last Monday and we have one again this Friday I believe. Good luck guys.

I'm OOS with an interview as well. I got an email last Thursday (24th). I have a 3.54 sGPA, 3.71 cGPA and a 33R MCAT. I'd say EC's are better than average but nothing compared to people on here. I haven't done any research but a lot of volunteer work. Idk how I got an interview but I'm really excited! I think their secondary helped me because it really allows you to paint yourself as a well-rounded individual which is probably something they like to see.

I emailed the admissions office before I read your post and the reply I got was:
" Please contact Prabhat Mishra at: [email protected]

He is in charge of the student hosting program in Miami."

I emailed him but haven't got a reply yet.

my grandparents live in FL as well as my best friend from high school . . . i love them and miss them and never see them enough! i would be so happy for a reason to go there. i visited them last year but cant afford it again this year 🙁 at least not for fun . . . for an interview, now that is a different story!!

i'm glad their secondary came out so late. since i took the mcat in June i didnt get primaries out until the end of July, so i missed the first wave at a lot of schools. but the miami secondary i turned around right about when i got it so :xf::xf: at least i can feel i am on equal footing as far as timing is concerned. it's nice.

so since you were always on the forums I definitely thought that you would have submitted the amcas really early like most of the regulars. One day when i was browsing theads i saw your name on the amcas verification thread and was like huh? how could she hear 1000 times that you have to apply early and then wait so long. i get it now. late mcat. i wish i had submitted this on the first day. 🙁

yep. it sucked and its been a pain, but i have to keep reminding myself that it was for a reason. i guarantee i would not have done as well on the MCAT if I had tried to take it any earlier. (I was taking grad histology and o-chem I during this spring semester so it was much better that i waited til they were done. since i am kinda non trad i have had to squeeze in my premed reqs around my grad classes and its been a nightmare!) anyway, I also spent a solid month post-finals studying for it and it really made an enormous difference. i think if i took it in april or may i probably would have gotten ~ a 30.

also my pre med committee told us they could not guarantee our letters any earlier than 8/1. so i figured rushing to be earlier than that might not have even done me any good, as i wouldnt be complete anywhere til they were in anyway.

ok sorry for the hijack 🙂
 
My interview's in a week and I still haven't figured out my housing yet. I really, really hope they send out information on Monday or I'm sleeping in the airport.

why not book a hotel, and if student housing gets setup, you can cancel the reservation?

Uh, what hotel companies have refund policies for cancellations?
 
Every single hotel I've checked thusfar has a no refund policy or wants over $100, so it looks like I'm out of luck.

Edit: If I stay closer to the airport than the hospital, I can book something. Guess I'll do that.

do priceline name your own, then at least you can probably get something for under $60. good luck at your interview by the way!
 
if i recall correctly, martin lawrence and will smith had a really easy time sneaking into people's houses and apartments in bad boys 1/2. you may want to explore that route

Haha. Thanks for the well-wishes guys.

At one point I had actually considered seeing if I could just sleep in the hospital. I'm sure they have some empty beds.

I don't know what all the whining is about. Book a hotel and start researching the school and practicing interview questions. There's tons of hotels in Miami. Here's a La Quinta: http://www.lq.com/lq/properties/propertyProfile.do?ident=LQ667. $55/day. If you can't manage that, you're going to crap your pants when those tuition bills come in.
 
Er, it really isn't that big of a deal. I'd certainly prefer to stay with a student host, less so because of the price and moreso because it's an excellent way to actually learn about the school from something other than a website. It just seems silly to pay for a hotel when a much better experience should be available.
 
Haha, I knew it was going to be warm and sunny, but these are apparently record highs. Goodness gracious.

At least the beach is a very short cab ride away from the medical center. I know exactly what I'm doing with my three hours between my interview and my journey back to the airport 😎
