I got the complete email finally, but I had to email twice asking! (and i emailed only because way back when I called they told me they couldn't tell me my status over the phone . . . ) 🙄

So congrats to all of you with interviews . . . Is Yimmie the only OOS so far? Do you mind sharing your stats? 🙂 I'm not holding out a ton of hope for Miami, but an interview would be a welcome and happy surprise

Dang, I didn't know you could send a pic with your package on it

Most ppl it sounds like don't receive a complete email, I just called to check if I'm complete.

lol ok so they wanted the secondary turned around in two weeks, i turned mine around in 16 days... am i going to get dq'ed for that??

also, what email address are we supposed to send our pic to? I sent mine to [email protected] , is that correct?

and also, as a general question, how long does it take med schools to download your LORS? mine didn't get to AMCAS until last Friday... from what I understand it takes school about 2 weeks to download your letter. is that correct?

Does anyone know any good car rental places near the Ft. Lauderdale airport? I'm flying from Philadelphia, and will have to drive to the Boca Raton campus. Figured I might as well rent a car.

Ha, I was on the phone with the Days Inn last night making a reservation when I got an e-mail from Prabhat, the student hosting coordinator, letting me know that someone volunteered to host me. The timing was impeccable.

Also, it's currently 65 and raining in Boston. I'm so excited for some climate change.

There should be car rentals at the airport. I'd stick to that or you will pay for transportation from the airport.

If we get interviews at both campuses, does that mean we have double the chance of getting in (i.e. their decisions are independent of each other)?

The two campuses have separate interview/waitlist/acceptance pools. You can be accepted at one and rejected at the other, etc.

So I had my interview yesterday.

This school proves that the US News rankings are completely unrepresentative of a school's quality. I think the U is ranked like 38th or something; it should probably be higher, and likely will be in the next few years. It really has everything you could possibly ask for:

- A GIGANTIC hospital that services a major metropolitan area, and the only students that rotate through it are those from the U.
- Specialties headed by world-renowned physicians, particularly the guys in opthamology and spinal injuries. The opthamology department recently performed some mind-blowing procedure that was featured on The Colbert Report.
- A substantial amount of funding and opportunities to research anything you could ever want.
- Hell, you can get clinical experience in anything you'd ever want. Sports medicine? Four professional sports teams go to UM-Jackson. Emergency medicine? A huge trauma center that deals with every emergency in South Florida. Obstetrics? They just hired a guy that's pioneered a half dozen procedures for fetal surgeries. It's ridiculous.
- A curriculum that's broken up in a way that doesn't have you taking exams every other week and constantly stressing out.
- A support system that's instilled from the first day of school. The entire class is divided into groups of 10 to 12 ("societies") that work together and occasionally compete for funsies. Other schools have adopted this idea because apparently, it works extremely well.

Also, it was 95 when I was there. After my day at the hospital, another interviewee and I went out to South Beach and stared at topless girls while watching waves crash on the shore. Students typically live in high-rise apartments about ten minutes south of the hospital; others spend some extra cash and just live on South Beach. Lastly, the dean of admissions laid out exactly how and when they'll review our applications and gave us an exact date when we'll find out our status. He also mentioned that 75-80% of interviewees are accepted or placed on an alternate list.

😍

If anyone has any questions about the interview day, let me know.

If anyone has any questions about the interview day, let me know.
I'll be down there next Thur and Fri. It made my day to hear how much you enjoyed your interview! I know Miami has been big on trying to grow their research programs in recent years, so I'm glad to see there's a variety of opportunities. Also, that 75-80% number is sounding very good.

Oh, did they mention when you would hear any info? Regardless, best of luck to you!

when i save what i have written the online application doesn't tell me if i'm over the limit so I'm wondering if they meant a 375 character limit excluding spaces?

anyone want to help me out here?

thanks

Dean Weisman said that they review applications every other Wednesday, and their first review will be on the 14th, which won't include my interview group. He said that they call those with their status that day, then send an e-mail, then send a package in the mail, but added that he really prefers when people pick up the phone because he gets to give good news far less often than he has to give bad news. So, it looks like I'll hear from Miami on the 28th. Hopefully it'll be good news :xf:

Good luck to you too -- I really recommend getting a student host and begging him/her for a quick tour of the city. It's gorgeous.

bringindafunk: Every single essay for every secondary for every single school includes spaces in the character limit.

It always includes spaces, in all your applications.

Got an invite today!! And since I am here in FL for this week, I am going to go ahead and do this coming up Mon and Tue for both campus.. I wonder if I can still get student hosting, even though I can't submit the request "two weeks" in advance. Soooo rushed!! Any recommendations for hotels would be super helpful! Thank you. 😀

Also, what's the main differences between the two campuses?

hey i didn't get a conformation email either, though i just scheduled it yesterday.

how long did it take others to receive the email with the information? i don't know anything like what time it starts, where to go, etc (also boca campus)

This only applies to the Miami campus:

There is a confirmation e-mail, but it takes about a week to show up (at least it did for me). They also send a reminder the day before your interview with the same info. With regards to student housing, contact Prabhat Mishra ([email protected]) and he'll set something up.

The biggest difference between the two campuses is their location. Miami-Miller is set right in downtown Miami and utilizes one of the largest teaching hospitals in the country with a level 1 trauma center and a bunch of other stuff. The FAU campus is in Boca Raton, which is about a twentieth of the size of Miami. The school is a lot smaller and the focus on is more on community medicine. There are also curriculum differences -- check the website for info.

Good luck guys!

I submitted around 8/24. Letters were in a before that. Have not got a complete email!

I got an acceptance phone call last Thursday too! Interviewed late September...1st acceptance! Good luck everyone!

I was selected by as an Alternate for the Miami campus. I am not sure if I should be worried because it is early. I wonder how the alternate list works, if I may get an acceptance in a couple months?

I got put on the alternate list too 🙁

I still have faith because last year 75% of people who interviewed got accepted...but now that might not happen until May.

Sucks because I thought my interview went really well and Miami is my top choice

Glad I am not the only one! I guess we just wait 🙂

Invite! Woohoo! 😀

Invite for both campuses today. Complete late August.

I got an interview invite for both campuses today too! I'm excited, I thought florida wasn't going to show me any love.

Wow -- good to see that Miami is sending out some love. Good luck guys!

Got an interview invite yesterday to the Miami campus!

OOS, Complete late August.

Anyone heard any decisions from UMSM@FAU (the Boca campus). I interviewed there in early October but haven't heard anything. I don't know if I should expect anything anytime soon!
