So...I called the admissions office today and was informed that my application had been reviewed yesterday but a decision could not be made so my application would be continued to the next round of meetings. I'm wondering should I send a letter of interest? Would that be appropriate? Thoughts?

I called today too and they told me a decision would be made at the next admissions meeting after the holiday break. I was worried because I interviewed November 6th and I assumed I was waitlisted, but apparently, there is still hope. Maybe my interviewer was slow to get his evaluation back?

If you have yet to hear anything and people who interview after you have heard, I recommend calling to see when you should be expecting a decision.

Does anyone actually know how their decision process actually works? If both adcoms link up via videoconference (or whatever) to decide on your file and you are waitlisted at one campus, that pretty much means you should be WL'd at the other too, right? I was WL'd at Boca yesterday, but my file at Miami is going to be reviewed in January. Does this pretty much kill my shot at Miami? (Essentially, if the same people wait listed my file once, why wouldn't they do it again?)

I asked an admissions lady about when to expect news. She said that in some cases the interviewers are really slow and they have to hound them to turn in evaluations. However, for me, Dr. Weisman's prediction was accurate.
If you interviewed on both campuses I wouldn't worry too much if you were WL'd at one. They are two separate adcoms and (I would assume) two different interviewers. I believe they come to a decision independently. Good luck to you.

I honestly thought I was nixed. It's great to hear it's not over yet considering I thought my interview went really well. I probably should have called earlier to check on my status.

After reading through the resident forums though I am starting to get less and less comfortable borrowing a large amount of money to attend a private school. I never really considered it before, but to just assume I am going to make a lot in the future and I will be able to pay off my loans was a little naive of me.

However, at $41,142 a year (AAMC), it is definitely one of the cheaper private schools and lets face it, it's in Miami!

I second Jihad on this one - all of the students who interviewed with me went for both Miami and Boca interviews, so they asked during the interview day. The Boca people said that admission decisions are completely separate for the two schools. Boca is also looking for a different sort of person than Miami - my interviewer at Boca pointed out that she was testing to see whether my personality would be a good fit for the interactive curriculum. I bet Boca values leadership/community service more and Miami values research more.

It's $41,142 when all the mandatory fees are figured in. And yes, they do offer financial aid to something like the top 25% of acceptances which usually means if you are out of state you have a good chance of getting some money. It still is quite a bit more than in state schools though if you have the option to attend one. Not saying it's a deal breaker, but sometimes the extra $60,000 it may cost you over four years to attend a private school isn't worth it if you can go somewhere cheaper. When you finally get out of residency in your 30's, you may wish you had that money to spend on other things.

Just a thought.

submitted 2ndary in late aug and still no interview... am i pretty much dead?? ahh i love miami too

I don't know where AMCAS came up with that number, but according to Miami's website, tuition and fees is $30,068 a year.

What time does the actual interview take place?

Anyone else gonna be there tomorrow?

According to the 2010-2011 MSAR, for IS students, it's $30,048 for tuition and fees. For OOS students, it's $39,254 just for tuition and fees.

Hmmm... I was told by a 2nd year at Boca that the Boca adcom conferences with the main campus, and that decisions are made together. Actually, the student said that the main campus actually has to okay the Boca adcom's decision on an applicant- meaning that the main campus has the final word on each applicant. So if this is the case, if you were WL'd at one, wouldn't the same adcom waitlist you again?

I have been told my several faculty that the decision to interview lies with the main campus...but post-interview (aka acceptance) is independent for both campuses.

Is anyone here planning to attend the Boca campus next year, or am I all by myself so far?

this place is awesome! really attractive people too!

When I called they said I would be the first decision day after the break. Would anyone happen to know when this will be by any chance?

Also, is there a second look for accepted applicants?

I applied pretty late and am OOS so I'm not holding my breadth, but I'd love to have a chance to interview here. Miami seems like such an amazing city.

Happy holidays!

i really think they should have a second look...i wanna see who id be spending the next 4 years with!

maybe if we call the admissions office they could get something together for like april??? thoughts?

if you tell them that they are interested in visiting them, Agnes will tell you that they will be glad to be accommodating but I don't think they will do a formal one. I'm totally down to not have a second look if they use that money for scholarships though :xf:

i would also like to have a second look, it'd be a good opportunity to bring my bf down and see what he thinks of moving there!

i think your bf would love miami. i know if i had a gf shed chop my nuts off if i didnt go to miami and i had the chance to. 🙂

anybody received pre-interview rejections? Have not heard a thing since I was complete a few months ago? not sure if good or bad news

I'm not pre-med but I graduated from UM in May with my bachelor's and my boyfriend moved to Miami with me from our hometown. It's a cool city.

Big Day tomorrow.

Adcom meets for the first time since the holidays. I'm definitely hoping for a phone call! 🙂

Good luck!

the meeting is today January 6, or is it tomorrow?

Just got the phone call!

I was really, really flustered because I thought it was an acceptance phone call - but it went for about 3 minutes about how my interview day went, and I was like 'the tour was a little unorganized, but I loved it really.'

The caller then said something like...'well maybe next year you can walk around a little bit slower and get a feel b/c you've been accepted!'

Woohoo, first acceptance of the cycle! I applied in 2006 and only received 2 interviews in state (Virginia) and didn't get in...so this one's for all the people who almost lose hope! Busted my behind for the last 2-3 years and it paid off. 😀

What do you think guys... Is there still hope for an interview invitation?
