Hey Rach I am in the same boat, how did you get the 28 date?

I called the admissions office yesterday and was told they were meeting on the 28th. Let's hope we hear back by the end of the month.

Wow that was a quick response 🙂. I hope they actually call instead of sending emails, but then again as someone said on the Canadian boards beggars are not choosers.

Hey everyone, just wondering if those who interviewed in early March have heard any news. Hoping to get some information before May 15...

Any more acceptances?... Do you think they'll accept any more before May 15?

I think I'm the only one who interviewed in March and posted about hearing back. I interviewed the first week of March and was waitlisted 3/24. I'm OOS and very non-traditional. On the optimistic side, I'm chalking up the quick waitlist decision to the probability that all of the OOS spots are currently full. 🙂 And that I'll get in off the waitlist once waitlist movement starts.

Does anyone know when the cost of attendance figures are coming out for 2010-2011? I could only find the 2009-2010 numbers.

I also am a little bit confused on why the tuition rates are different between years 1-4. Year 4 obviously doesn't have the summer tuition, but not sure about the other three years. I'm thinking that perhaps this reflects the tuition raise each year, and that once you matriculate your tuition is locked in for 11 semesters.

For those waiting to hear back:

Got acceptance call today: April 16, 2010
Interviewed: February 15, 2010

I've been checking this page quite frequently as of late, hopefully this gives others some idea of when you might hear back. An email to admissions will get you a rough estimate as well.

I also got the call today.
While I was presenting at my senior symposium, actually, so that was nice news to get after so much stress. 🙂

OOS, interviewed March 8th.

Hopefully plenty more people will have gotten the call, too. :xf: Best of luck, guys (and girls).

Congratulations Matthew! I was starting to wonder if they had wrapped up the process for the year since nobody has posted an acceptance for such a time. Do you feel you had a pretty strong application with good scores?

Has anyone else gotten a call in the past couple weeks?

That blows my theory are OOS spots being full! Congrats!

-MCAT and GPA above average
-no substantial clinical or volunteer experience
-a few unique and meaningful leadership and service experiences
-In state applicant
-I'd say application was strong, but not necessarily typical

anyone know when people on the waitlist will hear about their ranking?

Officially they have to tell us by May 15th, but I'm guessing that will, indeed, be the day the let us know.

Here's to hoping you and I and the rest of us hopefuls get a shot!

I'm really starting to wonder whether there will be significant waitlist movement this year. It seems like everyone is know has been accepted to the U and is planning on attending. I really hope I'm wrong :/

Hang in there, PoniNo1. The U of MN has been fairly conservative the past two years with acceptances. If you're in the top 40 on the alternate list, you have a good chance of getting in.

Rankings should come out before May 15th...maybe beginning of May. The U of MN interviews through the first week of April. So shortly after that I would guess.

Well, regardless of whether I get in or not, I still plan on taking a year off to work because financially my family is quite burdened with sending my other 3 siblings off to dental school and college.

Does anyone know how U of M considers students wanting to defer admission? I know they discourage it.

I know the U of MN considers deferrals, but only for acceptees with a legitimate and convincing reason. I don't know anyone that has received a deferral so I don't know of any real life examples. Continuing with a research project or volunteering/working abroad would probably qualify.

Most students take out loans to cover the entire COA (i.e. do not receive financial assistance from family or previous savings). I would encourage you to do the same if accepted.

I would rather not take out loans to cover the entire COA though. For me and my family, we feel it's better to be able to pay off at least some portion of it.

Dunno, hope they do find this reason compelling enough. =|

I hope you realize that waiting one year now to work will only allow you to pay a very small portion of tuition. The longer you wait, the more money you will loose in the end because you are reducing the number of years that you would be working as a physician. Hope this helps.

Less than a week till decisions are made on int'l applicants... I have been accepted at IU, but I really want to go to UMN!!!

I got wait-listed. For some strange reason, a part of me is relieved....

Oh well, life goes on.

I called today to get a loan estimate and found out I am getting a $7500 scholarship award! YAY monies!! 😀

I called today and was told they would be cashing the deposit checks on May 15

Which office did you call? I am getting nothing but answering machines 🙁

Medical School Financial Aid Office

I talked to the assistant as both the counselors were in meetings. Sheryl Houston called me back that same day.

Anybody hear anything yet? This process is so nerve racking... waiting all day between a phone call and checking the mail.

No reply it seems so far. Maybe they went on vacation!
Assuming they had the meeting on the 28th - what could be taking them so long?

Aren't we justified to ask them since they promised to give us an answer in April, and it is May already?
If anyone is brave enough to call them please tell us the outcome 🙂

My friend just called them and they said that we should be hearing by Wednesday... and that Paul should be making calls "soon"... take it for what it is...

You may have noticed that I've been absent posting for a bit. Well I was trying to save my 500th post for something special.

Accepted!

Just so I can be easily identified the call came with a caveat, I'm apparently missing an upper level social science or humanities writing intensive course. I didn't realize I needed one. Dean White said I could do the course over the summer. Looks like I won't be relaxing my summer before year 1. I'm not complaining. I'm ecstatic. Glad I'll be seeing you guys this fall.

Good luck to everyone else waiting.

Congratulations, Tutmos! What a relief that must be for you 🙂

I got the call today around 5! 😀

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting.

what's the attendance policy for lectures (if anyone knows)? are they uploaded online too?

Congratulations, Tutmos! What a relief that must be for you 🙂

Thanks. I still have the joy of waiting to see if the class I picked out for the summer is okay. I don't know when they added that humanities writing intensive requirement but it wasn't there when I planned everything out a couple years ago. No big deal though, I'll suck it up. Just think of me while you guys are relaxing all summer. 😛 I'll reward myself by taking it easy in, errrr 8 years! 😱

Yes, uploaded and live. I'm trying to find out the exact details as I have a 25 mile commute each way, so any days I can not drive to campus creates more than an hour of productive time. It's just the lab and exams you need to be on campus for. The MS2 that gave us a tour said there was a girl in his class that lives in Rochester, a couple hour drive away, and she only comes in for exams.

Accepted....
This is the way the world end
Not with a bang but a whimper.

The lectures are posted online; however, there will be some small group, PBL-like stuff worked into courses starting next year. The small group stuff will not be online. Many students at the U watch lectures from home at double speed.

Congrats to all the new acceptees! 🙂

Do you guys think that if we haven't gotten a call by tonight, it's a rejection or wait list?
ETA: I guess them saying we "should" be hearing by Wednesday doesn't necessarily mean anything. 😛

I called Monday and was told that we should get an e-mail about our waitlist rankings on Friday.

I wouldn't assume anything with time deadlines given.

Why do you think so? Is Almansur International? Was any international accepted so far if so I would be worried... It is a bit annoying since my interview was in September but if they accept me it was all worth it.
