I think about 30 accepted people will turn down OU acceptance offer for sure. I'd be surprised if at least 30 didn't. I would assume that if you were in the top 30 wait list, you have a good chance :scared:

I'm hoping for the best, although my luck with any sort of admissions has never been the best.

They have raised the GPA. My princeton review book had an average of 3.69 but the MSAR books of recent years have a 3.8 GPA.

Yeah, those are just averages, don't take them as concrete standards. If thats the average then half the people accepted should have stats lower than that.

I bet we'll all get our letters next wednesday (3/3/10), I'm assuming most of us are instate and probably within a day or two mailing distance.

Just my opinion, but I think most people that are going to turn down there OU acceptance have already done so or will do so soon. So there may be more than just 40 spots decided upon this weekend (once again, just my opinion)

i assume 30 people get off the waitlist maybe fewer

An anesthesiologist came to speak at my premed club last week. He is on the admissions committee and told me that in past years about 40-50 people come off the waitlist. However last year only 20 were pulled.

I won't say. It was in the fall though. 😱

haha I'll just say it was one of those two choices 🙄

I wonder how many students decline the waitlist? I would think that #60 on the list could be accepted even if only 40 people are taken from the list because 20 people ahead of him declined the waitlist. I mean, there's got to be a reason that 60 - 90 people are placed on the waitlist most years. What do you guys think?

I'm really not sure. Too me they offer about 190 spots. My main question is (does that include the people off of the waitlist who get an offer or is there a wait list on top of the 190 spots they offer.

The class size about 160. But I had posted earlier that a Princeton Review Book indicated that 221 spots were offered in 2007-2008 (Do you think that includes the wait list)

However how many people on the waitlist would turn down OU? They might just keep a long waitlist in case of emergency. Someone earlier had posted that there was one student who was taken off the list a week before schooll started and she accepted.

I think the worst part is not knowing where you are at on the waitlist. If they told me I was 60, I could move on and make other plans. Yet if you are in the top ten, you know you are in pretty good shape.

I agree totally, if i'm waitlisted i'm only going to give it about 1 month. I've got a family and need to start making living arrangements.

I'm the same way..if I don't hear back by June then I'm going to go ahead and decline the waitlist. I've got a masters program that I'd like to attend and I think it'd be hard for me to make plans and focus on the masters program if I'm clinging onto the hope of getting into OU. I'm just not sure if I would have to notify Dotty to be removed from the WL or if I would simply decline if I were accepted in July.

a regular masters or an SMP?

If you're accepted to OU, do you get a fedex/ups like at OSU or just regular mail?

I heard regular mail but it comes in a big red envelope, hence some refer to it as the bre

Has anyone called the admissions office to see when they are going to send out the letters?

I thought about calling, but I thought it might be a bad idea to ask when they already said first week of march.

I would still love to know the date they send it just so I can check my mail. If anyone does end up calling please post the info.

I emailed and they responded with: Letters will be mailed on March 2nd.

Thanks for that info.

Do you think we'll get them on the 3rd or 4th. Regular mail in-state usually takes one day or so?

It's felt like an eternity and these next couple days will be even longer than the last couple of months.

Any estimates on how long it will take the mail to get to Tulsa? I know I'm being a little impatient, but I just can't help it.

but this is all assuming that on the 2nd, they send out the letters before the actual mail goes out. if they mail it out at the end of the business day then you would probably get it no earlier than the 4th, no?

Yeah hopefully they send it out during the lunch break. In fact if they have a system similar to the Norman campus system it's actually will take longer. Hopefully they go directly to the post office.

true. you'll get it this week, so chiiilll haha

You all are welcome. Guess I'm just the most neurotic, huh?

I've got nothing to complain about honestly because I've been waiting since January (my interview) and but there are people who were deferred since like late November.

However its still tough. These next couple of days I'll be waiting on the delivery of mail.

So, who knows which address they send it too? Do they send it to your permenant address or your current/mailing address?

Like am I going to have to wait for my parents to realize they have a very important peice of mail for me? Or will they send it to me in TX?

I would imagine it is going to go wherever they sent your deferral letter.

Somebody should call and ask if we could save them postage fees and just pick it up at the school tomorrow.

they would probably say no because they don't want to see you cry/be diappointed/ get angry because basically once they hand you the envelope you supposedly know if your in or not.

According to what I've read on this site apparently people who are accepted receive a red envelope.

So I doubt they would let us. But I'd be there in a heart beat.

I bet it's because they don't want to see my happy dance if I get the red one, it's not pretty.

Were you by chance able to find out how many spots they ended up offering? Was it above the 40 spots originally assumed.

I heard 40 from one source and slightly under 40 from another. Neither source I'm willing to vouch for

40 of the potential 180 roughly deferred.

Man that's harsh I for sure thought they would offer like around 60 or 70 spots.

I wish I hadn't asked.

Um, they can't offer more spots then what's available in the class. They have to waitlist the rest they want and then take people off the waitlist when spots open in the class. Even though im sure plenty of people will turn down spots, its unethical to offer more than they have available.

Like I said, sources are suspect

well it sounds right because the economy might have pinched the med school funds. Since the state funds the medical school essentially covering a huge portion of instate tuitions I'm sure that the state might have asked for some cuts from the medical school because there's like a huge budget crisis for the state. Their cutting pretty basic things just from public schools like teaching children spanish in Middle School (At least their strongly considering it).

While I agree, I was interpreting it as they stop at 120 offers and start deferring everyone. Within the next several months, many accepted withdraw to attend other schools, opening up more than 40 to become accepted now.

Absolutely not. The class size is set and funds will not change the seats offered this year. Actually the state has authorized an increase to around 200. It was in a Tulsa world article last year.

An associate professor for OU (surgeon) I talked to last week was telling me that funds from tuition and the state is around half of the budget.
