Seriously there are still tons of interview slots to be had... everyone on here needs to quit worrying about how others are doing. All it does is drive you crazy comparing yourself to everyone else. If you did all you could, it will be fine.

Well, I don't think that is the case, I have a 3.9 and I have no invite, so I think its either using both numbers ( only a 32 on the mcat), or it is not an auto invite (which I think is the case). Oh well, I guess this is to be expected, there is prob a rejection mail on its way to my house from PA :scared:

Do they even send rejections via snail mail?

Actually, I have no idea, but since they were willing to send snail mail to tell us we should complete their secondary, I am going to assume that they reject by snail mail as well.

my thoughts exactly

If it gives you guys any hope... I was complete for over two weeks before I got an invite. I was thinking I was going to be rejected because I kept seeing people who were complete well after me get invites, so just try to be patient.

I got my invite this afternoon.

I'm scared to select a date. Hopefully I can get a reasonably priced flight.

Congrats on the invite, Aggro! Hopefully you can get a good flight. I booked mine yesterday and it wasn't too bad.

These interview dates are kind of weird. Who, other that someone who lives nearby, would want to interview on a Wednesday? It's all about those Monday and Friday dates, which is why they get sucked up.

Haha, I accepted a long time ago that was not going to be an inexpensive process, but it doesn't make it any easier to click the OK button for a "cheap" flight that still costs like $220.

Maybe I'll see some of you guys on September 21st 😎

Edit: A bunch of schools don't even offer interviews on Fridays, so for people that live out-of-state, it's either go on Monday or prepare to miss a ton of class. I set up my semester so I could bail out on any given Monday or Friday :/

what's the chance of getting rejected post-secondary and before the interview invite? Like 80%?

Do they send invites once a day or throughout the day?

5413 applied last year
1014 were interviewed
class size of 147

they probably accepted 300-400 people to get a class size of 147

note: accepted from waitlist = accepted. look on mdapps to find the huge # of people accepted here (and other top 20 schools) who go elsewhere. my point is your probability of being accepted post-interview is higher than it would seem based on interview:matriculated.

Have any of you received an actual status of "complete," "awaiting review," etc?

I have been stuck at "invited to complete supplemental application" since I submitted on 7/13/09.

I was complete since 7/7. so don't worry :scared:

Just out of curiousity, have there been any in-state applicants who received interviews? Everyone seems to be OOS.

hmm. interesting observation..... I would like to know too

I just wanted to share with you guys my experience interviewing at Pitt last year. I'll say right off the bat that I loved the place. It offers wonderful research opportunities if that's your cup of tea. I think you will be pleasantly surprised by the simulation lab at Pitt. It's second only to Harvard and Stanford in size, and both of these schools ripped off Pitt's idea for a large sim lab. Overall the medical complex is very impressive and well integrated with the graduate school.

Some things you should be prepared for during your interview day:
1. There will be LOTS of people! My interview day was fairly disorganized. A mob of first-year students suddenly appeared elbowing each other to get through to the interviewees, all confined in a tiny office. It was a mess! Be prepared that this can happen and don't worry. Just relax and fly with it.

2. Your first interview is with a first-year student. Realize if you're interviewing in September, your interviewer has spent exactly one month at Pitt. Think ahead of time what questions you're going to ask them. I thought it was very strange practice (I was significantly older than my interviewer, for instance). Your student interview is not assigned to a particular room, so you will roam the facilities looking for an open office or any place to conduct your interview. Be vigilant when you're going around the building earlier that day -- I spotted several open offices in the morning (by chance) and lead my interviewer to one of them. Otherwise you will waste a significant part of your interview time looking for a place.

3. The school will send you LOTS of emails -- the most of any school I interviewed at -- most of them are not related to your application.

Hope this helps! Good luck at Pitt.

Thanks, DNAbaby, now if I can only get that invite.😀

Thanks for the advice!
I just had a few other questions: Did the student interviewer read your application before interviewing with you? Was it mostly to see if you fit well with them? or just an opportunity to get to know the school? Are there any qualities Pitt is specifically looking for in candidates?

hey for those of you on quarter system, did you enter your credit hours in quarter or semester units?

In general, I think that student interviews are very difficult to do well. Possible, but difficult. I put a lot of advice about interviewing on my blog: http://harvardmedgirl.blogspot.com/2009/06/practice-interview-questions.html

Interviewing with a student is tricky, because it is functionally equivalent to trying to impress yourself. As I mentioned, my student interviewer was practically as new to Pitt as I was. So here you are, sitting down with somebody who went through the hell of AMCAS and interviewing just a few months ago. Can they really attests to what qualities would make you a promising physician? Why would they know more about it than you? Because of two months they spent in medical school learning biochemistry and anatomy? They are not bearded experts on the subject.

To succeed with a student interviewer, follow these general guidelines:
1. ACT VERY PROFESSIONAL - err on the side of seeming boring. We naturally relax around our young peers. An interview setting is not appropriate for that.

2. TALK ABOUT WORK AND RESEARCH - ask them about their work and their research. Students really like to talk about their work, they enjoy being interviewers. Prepare some questions in advance. For example, "Did you consider doing a combined degree program?" or "What do you think about the five-year medical scientist training program? Do you know anybody who is doing it?" Have at least five of those questions ready.

3. BE SOMEWHAT COOL - students will ask you what you do in your spare time. I suppose they could be evaluating how you would fit into their community. You want to sound interesting, but don't say "I party all the time until I'm blue in face". Don't say anything you would not say to your mother-in-law. Interesting activities could be collecting pho recipes, traveling to see ancient images of Cadeceus, or enjoying political posters. Something edgier than gardening, you know?

Anyway, I say so jokingly, but of course it's as serious as your future career. Consider that committee members will read feedback from the students. Imagine what would prompt you to write positively about a person.

I'm pretty sure it's second year students who do the interviewing until November or so--at least that's how it was last year. Then first years take over. Unless something has changed, which is possible! 🙂

Random question...

Pitt asks you to bring 2 wallet-sized photo's to the interview so that they can attach them to your file... & since I don't happen to have any of those at the moment, I was thinking of going somewhere to get my picture taken.

Do you guys know of any other schools that require you to bring photo's with you? Because I was thinking I might as well get a bunch printed if a few other schools require this too...
Thoughts?

Is this for real? Where did you find this information? I'm glad I check SDN frequently or I would have missed this.

It was subtly included in the interview date selection confirmation. I almost missed it myself!

You should be able to go to any CVS or other store with a photo department and have your photos taken. It should cost like $8 for a packet of eight wallet-sized photos.

Wow that was fast...what were your stats?

Also, I just finally got up to date (read 7 pages of this crap). I'm going to try and get this sec out tomorrow. I feel like I'm so far behind. You SDNers are too fast.

3.98 GPA, 37R.

You're not far behind, it's still early in the cycle for secondaries.

According to one of the older posts, Pitt is really really fast. It might not have anything to do with stats, although maybe it does.

i looked at last years posts. some people are complete in early july and get an interview invite a month later. just because they don't invite you immediately doesn't mean you are rejected. i think they are just inviting the people they really want first (not me lol)

Me either apparently lol. I was complete 3 weeks ago, no invite or rejection yet

when you filled out your classes and credit hours, did you put the credits in semester hours or quarter hours (if you go to school on a quarter system)?
