Interview invite!!!!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh 🙂

Complete 7/9

Question----on my status page is still says, "Invited to Complete Secondary", even though I submitted my secondary, paid my fee, and sent my recs in a month ago. Is it supposed to change to complete?

Grats! When's your interview? IIRC, we have the exact same mcat and gpa. We're also the same as far as status at schools we've both apped to. For my sake and yours I hope we get more interviews!

Fall break??? 😱 I wish my school had a fall break...

yeah...fall break is great and perfectly timed. it's a week long during the second full week of october. i think it's a liberal arts college thing. most of my friends at larger universities don't have a fall break, but a lot of my friends at smaller colleges have one as well. i usually use it as a time to relax and visit friends at other colleges, but this time around i may have to use it for my interviews!

pittsburgh is pretty far from where i live (a 7 hour drive). i'm debating whether to fly or to drive. it's far enough that i could fly but close enough that i wouldn't mind driving either.

If you got money to dish it out then fly, if you don't then def drive...If it doesnt matter I'd do whatever you think would make you least stressed. For example, if you flew, then you would have to rent a car or find someway to get to campus etc.

If you fly into Pittsburgh international airport, there is a bus that picks you up right there and stops right in Pitt's campus. Very easy and VERY cheap - like $2. Great success

someone just commented on my MDApps profile that 1 in 4 people who apply to pitt get interviewed and that i should not be too excited. how lame is that.

Hahah not only is it lame, but its also untrue. You should just respond its too bad you arent in the "1/4th" to whoever wrote it

I believe it was around 5000 applied last year, and 1000 got it

Yea, 5413 applied last year and 1014 got interviews (according to the MSAR), so it's more like 1 in 5, which I what I said in the Class of 2014 thread. Whatever. An interview's an interview. I'll take it even if they invite 5000 people.

haha exactly. 1 in 4...1 in 5...1 in 10...whatever. i'm glad to have the opportunity to interview no matter what the stats are.

Top 1000 is still something to be excited about...just disregard the haters..

Dang that's a lot of interviews. So why haven't I gotten it yet?🙁

Fall 2008 admissions, per US News: 5413 applied, 1031 interviewed, 453 were accepted, 147 enrolled.

Not much different than Duke (5201 applied, 1077 interviewed).

Hey Steeler, where'd ya get that info?

1k interviewed and 450 accepted? HOLY ****

I am so happy I have an interview here

Hey everyone, I got my interview invite today.

A few notables:

I was invited for an interview though I got a 9 in VR.

For my essay on facing an ethical dilemma, I wrote about a time when I did something pretty darn despicable and then did my heartfelt best to make amends. I was even told not to include the story by other premeds, but in the end I went with my gut. It appears Pittsburgh understood.

Cheers everyone.

Hi All,

I applied last week and got an interview invite today. I went on website to schedule, but earliest interview available is 9/30. All the other interviews I have received so far are at end of August.

I was wondering 2 things. Does anyone know when the first interviews are being held? Also, it is usually advised to apply early, but is there any advantage to also interviewing early?

Thank you very much!

Hmm I am not sure about earliest, the earliest I saw was 9/11 but there are some definitely earlier. And yes, interviewing early definitely helps, for example, in the beginning they may be interviewing 10 people for 8 spots, whereas later on they are interviewing 10 for 4 spots or something like that. But earliest anyschool releases acceptances is 10/15

how long does it usually take pitt to download the letters once they are posted on amcas?

my school advises to interview as early as possible. the earliest possible interview date for me was also 9/30. i actually scheduled for 10/14 despite all of this due to personal convenience (i will be on break during that week and so i won't have to miss any of my classes). unless you have a reason not to... i think the general rule of thumb is try to interview earlier than later.

What do you guys think? Should I send in my secondary even though I have a 5 in verbal>?

no... waste of money and time... you need to retake the MCAT if you ever think about going MD in the US. Your only hope for med school is DO and that is going to require a lot fo luck. The only thing i ssuggest is retake MCAT

What did you get in other sections? Not to put you down or anything but most schools at pittsburgh's tier don't like VR under a 7 I believe.

I know I have a very, very low chance....just thought I'd ask. My composite is 24Q, GPA is 3.74 cum. Guess I'll stick to my state schools and lower tier MD schools. Pitt seems to be pretty high up there.

BTW they sent me a "reminder" to complete my secondary by snail-mail today. Do they send that to everyone? I only got my secondary like a week ago.

Is there no chance of retake? You got 10 and 9 in other sections, so you never know VR is pretty jumpy between tests

At the moment I'm not really considering it to be honest. I've only got a month or so to prepare again after the June 18th test if I'm going to take the September test....not enough time, and verbal is going to take some time to improve. A month won't do it, for me at least.

If you are willing to take a year off if you don't get in anywhere and retake, then I'd go for it this year (if you have the money as well)

Thanks...just thought I'd ask. Everyone keeps telling me to retake, but is a month really enough time to re-gear for the next test?

Depends on if you consistently struggle with verbal or through your practice tests they vary significantly, which i think is better in your case. If you want tips go ahead and post in the mcat forum

I was pretty consistently in the 6-7 VR score range. Even that isn't good enough, though.

Thanks for the advice.

I can't talk too much since my MCAT score is pretty average, but a 24 just won't cut it unless your ECs are absolutely amazing. 1 point lower and you would automatically get screened out of most schools. You should really consider a retake. Just my opinion...feel free to slap me if I'm out of place, lol.

Got an interview today too, does anyone know how good their financial aid is? Are they known for giving merit or need scholarships to reduce that (crushing) $40k OOS tuition?

I believe they give out a decent amount of merit aid.

I just got my interview invitation today earlier as well 🙂 It will be my 4th.

Has anyone tried accessing the application site today? I keep getting a timeout error

It seems like everybody's getting an interview. When I got my invite, I thought I was special. lol.
