I don't know whether to feel better or worse about seeing all these great people waitlisted as well.

I thought my MCAT score would keep me out of here, but there are some people with amazing stats and multiple acceptances to other great schools waitlisted here 😱!

Who knows what Pitt is looking for?!

man, so many of us awesome people stuck in limbo! what's the deal?

so does anyone know the mechanics of this waitlist? is it an active review one or is it a "we wait to look at everyone till the last minute" one?

Waitlisted! I withdrew, though. Hope this helps the rest of you!

I know some people who got off the waitlist last year about 2 weeks after being placed on it. However, they were late applicants so that didn't happen until March-April.

Know another person who applied quite early last year, was waitlisted, and didn't hear back until April.

I'm thinking that we will be re-reviewed - maybe not every 2 weeks, but at least frequently. It's not an alternate list yet, so I imagine we will at least get another look by the time secondaries are due for all the slackers out there...

...but who knows...

lol, someone call??

P.S. Was waitlisted this morning too =( No acceptances anywhere yet

I'm not quite sure. I have average stats, but admittedly very unique (my interviewer at Penn used the word "extraordinary") leadership experiences. I also come from disadvantaged background and have much first hand clinical experience. I think they really do take everything into account. I'm really honored by this acceptance.

As great as Pitt is, I don't see myself bailing at the last minute from another school to go.

Oh well, can't win every battle.

Congrats to those accepted! Maybe it's for the best that my Cincinnati self doesn't end up in Pittsburgh. :meanie:

i mean one of the admissions dean did mention that about 1/3 of the class is from the waitlist. that's a pretty significant number. i think that the waitlist is still a pretty favorable decision. we should try to not be too disappointed.

and yes. congrats to all of those who have been accepted!

Waitlisted. That makes me 0 for 3 on post-interview decisions. Oh well, I am starting to get used to it at this point. Maybe those schools that haven't invited me for an interview yet were on to something...

Congrats to those accepted.

Don't get down Irk! Two of those 3 that I know of are pretty spectacular schools that you've been "held" at post-interview. Keep your chin up and plowing ahead! If you're getting through the interview stage at places like Mayo and Pitt, you'll get accepted. Keep on goin!

Hey man, dont be discouraged, you have great stats and ecs. and its only November, if you can't get in somewhere, who can

Do you guys think I should call about my status? I was complete in July, no interview invite yet, but I've seen many people completed later who have seen an update in their status. I know Pitt was a reach for me (30 Mcat), but I decided to try because of an extensive research background.

Waitlisted too, but definitely won't be staying on it. (I called this-- see my post from yesterday.) Congratulations to those who were accepted! 🙂

I'm still in limbo. Don't know what to make of it.

Same, still under review, and apparently if I remember your earlier post correctly, we interviewed on the same day. Might not be a good sign though. Yesterdays decisions were acceptances, this morning we have waitlists; perhaps the next batch of decisions are flat-out post-interview rejections? Not a comforting thought.

seems like I'm late to the party. I just checked...waitlisted. Ah, well. I guess our theory was right.

Accepted! Checked my status this morning. Very happy about this. Wow... interview oct 14th

Congrats Taylor!!!!!! That is awesome! :soexcited:

why are you crying about pitt if you already have seven acceptances? kind of both selfish and annoying.

wow. I get bashed for caring about a school because I have other acceptances?? What is your problem? 🙄 Are you saying once someone gets into a school, their application cycle is supposed to end right there and they have no reason for wanting to get into any other school? You dont know my preferences or personal reasons so you have no right to judge.

Getting into a school already definitely makes the waiting easier, but we all still want to get into the schools we've made it this far with. I personally like Pitt a lot and though I've been accepted elseware I care a lot about the admissions decision Pitt will give me. You seriously can't blame people for wanting to get into a school they like, even if they've gotten in somewhere else.

Thanks rockaction for laying it straight.

I think he went about it the wrong way, but you have to consider there are people who have yet to be accepted anywhere and the anxiety they're feeling is absolutely tremendous during this time. Hearing someone else proclaim their despair after so many acceptances can be extremely frustrating. I think perhaps a little sensitivity could help some of those people. Pitt is an incredible school and rightfully so you might sincerely have a huge interest in getting in. But for people that have yet to get in, it's human nature to experience a bit of distaste at your comments. I'd aim for a bit more subtlety, rather than expressing how "sad" you are after 7 acceptances. You seem like a nice and humble person, so I know it's not intentional or purposefully insensitive. Best of luck to you.. you have some incredible interviews, so I'm sure the number doesn't stop at 7.

i totally understand. i was just sympathizing with all who were waiting to hear and had no idea i would be alienated. it looks like My MDapp is working against me. Thanks for explaining. Congrats on your acceptances and best of luck to you as well :luck:

For those of you whose application are still under review...did you interview later in october? I interviewed on the 23rd of October and my application status is still under review......

Wow, so many people on waitlist. Seems that the majority of Pitt's admission decisions is waitlisted. So why does Pitt need extra 2 weeks to post their admission decisions? I think it is much more difficult and time-consuming to make "accepted"/"rejected" decision than "waitlist" decision.

I interviewed October 14th and am still under review...but other people who have interviewed on the 14th have their decision already. Guess I just have to wait and see...

Thanks guys. I am actually getting better and better at dealing with holds/waitlists every time, so by the time I get my next one it probably won't even phase me 😛. Honestly, after interviewing at my state school it has all been a lot easier to deal with. Just by virtue of being in state I have a great chance at getting in there, and even though it is not one of the "top ten" schools or whatever I liked it. It also doesn't hurt that it is like $20,000+ cheaper per year than OOS or private school tuition is.

I know it is still only November, but I am ready for this whole process to be over with. If I had an acceptance right now, there is no way in hell I would go on another interview. I am sick of flying...

So it looks like some people who interviewed as late as October 14th have received decisions. That seems really fast, considering they told us on October 21st that decisions take 8 weeks! I wonder if the 8 weeks thing really meant "up to 8 weeks but maybe way sooner." I hope this means I will find out next week. I love Pitt and hate waiting.

waitlisted this morning too. =/

i'm still really interested in pitt. i was wondering what other people in the same boat are planning on doing...

i've heard of letters of intent/update letters, but is there any more we can do? can we pull an elle woods and send them a video resume? (legally blonde, anyone?)

do they accept people off the waitlist before may 15th?

any/all help appreciated!

Is sending fall semester transcript to Pitts REQUIRED? I hope not...

Just be glad you didn't interview when I did. It has been exactly 8 weeks of waiting just to be waitlisted. I hate waiting too, but 90-95% of this process is waiting so we have to get used to it.

Waitlisted. Apparently the interviewers who told me that they were very impressed with me didn't outweigh my terrible GPA MCAT extracurriculars oh whatever I don't understand this process at all.

How long should I wait to send a letter of intent/letter of PLEASE ACCEPT ME I'LL EVEN DO YOUR LAUNDRY IF YOU ASK ME TO?

Exactly!! lol. I'm in better spirits b/c I was accepted to UNC the afternoon before I got this waitlist decision. So to everyone who is waitlisted, stay positive! This isn't necessarily a bad sign for other schools.

why wait...let them know. Good luck!

I would like to become more gracious about all the waiting, but it's not easy.

Hang in there on the waitlist. I know it doesn't make you want to go out and celebrate, but you really might end up with an acceptance at Pitt -- hopefully sooner rather than later. As someone mentioned above, a third of the entering class is originally waitlisted, so don't give up. Good luck!

Had a similar experience. Got along with the student interviewer (no not too comfortable), and my faculty interviewer said I was the most interesting student she had interviewed yet and that it was very much a pleasure. My MCAT is below their average. Maybe that and other parts of my app outweighed my interviewers' recommendations.

I interviewed early and was placed on WL early. Got off WL late. It happens! Good luck!

I was a late October interview too. I don't think we'll hear for a while.

Congrats Taylor!!!!!! That is awesome! :soexcited:

Thanx w2e! I appreciate it, this has made my month! I see you are really cleaning up this cycle...haha, im just trying to be like you.

Waitlisted. sigh.

Don't know what happened. My interviews went really well..maybe my 33 mcat was too "low" for an acceptance.

I was wait listed as well OOS 37 mCAt 3.5 Sgpa 3.6 CumGPA pretty sad, I am so interested and impressed with pitt! "I mean pitt sucks and none of u should not go there (save more spots for me!) congrats to all that got in and good luck to all that are wait listed.
i am still confused about how waitlist works? So we probably wont find anything out until May? and a third of the class comes from the wait list????

I got rejected....I guess I should just be happy with have gotten an interview invite with my low stats but I am only disappointed b/c both my student interviewer and my faculty interviewer seemed to be really impressed with me. It just makes it seem like I was going to be an auto rejection no matter how well my interviews went. Hopefully the rest of the process will go well.

Congrats to everyone that has been excepted this is truly a great school!🙂

i dont think the interviews had any positive weight whatsoever unless one or both of your interviewers recommended rejection

the schools mission was to sell it self from the morning to the end. talking to the students made me realize that they have done a decent job steering people away from Penn and other places. and they just used it as a day to impress those people. i dont mind that all, it makes a ton of sense for the school to do it, and the school is just impressive 🙂

How is both interviewers recommending a rejection a "positive weight"?
