I don't think there is a typical turn around time. In the beginning of the interview season, it was ~3 weeks even though they said 6-8 weeks. (i.e. I interviewed on 10/26 and then was accepted mid nov.).

I would think that post interview decision should take the estimated 6-8 weeks now because it's the holiday season. The committee members are taking their vacations around this time.

Does anyone know if there's a "typical" turn-around time post-interview for decisions? I know that they say 6-8 weeks at the interview info session...but is this really true? I'm three weeks post-interview as of today.

do you get any email either way, or you just have to check the status page?

status check or snail mail for acceptances. I interviewed on 10/14 and was accepted first week or so of november by status update. Received snail mail about 6 days later.

At least 6-8 weeks for most.

Thanks Chuck's! I wrote my strong letter of interest a month ago and sent it in there! Hopefully it is well received 😀 Also, if we've already sent a letter of interest and have no major updates, should I be writing again next month to show maintained interest? Or should I just sit tight?
I would hold off til around May 15th.

Why wouldn't you choose Oakland? I would think that being closer to the university would be better?

Yes, indeed Oakland is the university district and those that live close can pretty much walk to campus. But my experience with Oakland is that it is a little on the dumpy side, and the city has all sorts of problems with slum lords people taking advantage of students. And it can be loud in Oakland, and parking can be crazy.

Shadyside and Squirrel Hill are the two single most beautiful neighborhoods in the city if one is speaking as a whole. As an architecture buff, I might have some qualifiers there-but these areas are both close and good choices for students. I am a big fan of Squirrel Hill and its beautiful neighborhoods and great business district.

Hope that helps!

I was just waitlisted post-interview. I'm an undergrad senior, and I managed to do very well this fall semester (4.0). Do you think I should wait till May 15 for an update/interest letter?

Or simply send in a very formal update letter (not a letter of interest) now, and then another "letter of interest" in May?

Thanks.

If it is first update/LOI, send in now. If not, send grade update, then an LOI reminder closer to May 15th (ish).

In a similar situation. Problem is, I only have my recent grades (also 4.0) to report. I've continued my AMCAS activities, but I have no "new" activities.

So are grades enough of a reason to send an update?

It's been quiet on here. Has anybody recently received an admissions decision? If so, when did you interview?

i just got a pre-interview rejection like 2 minutes ago.

balls.

Is anyone else expecting a decision tomorrow? I'm 7 weeks post interview and I think before Xmas they were up to Nov. 12 or something...:scared:

I'm hoping so. I intervewed Nov 16th, so its been over 7 weeks now.

Are status pages supposed to be updated tomorrow? I wonder if I'll hear. Maybe too early - having interviewed 11/30, I'll be about 5.5 weeks post-interview - but maybe not!

It shouldn't be too early. I interviewed second week of October and heard from them second week of November or so. But with the holidays they may be a little behind.

well, I'm just assuming thursday is still the day they send out updates... they've slowed waayy down cause of the holidays so I'm not counting on hearing tomorrow but I think the week of Nov. 16th is the next group up. Feels like forever ago.. I'm definitely scared:scared: I cant check til 2pm at the earliest but i'm gonna check here first so I volunteer someone else to be the brave one and check and then post if it's up...Mr. 88?

I'll be checking in the morning most likely, will let you all know if anything shows up. When did you interview Holy? Sometime that week or with me on the 16th?

sorry if this was asked already, but when will they be accepting from the waitlist? could we find out (potentially) tomorrow that we were accepted from waitlist?

Waitlist movement does not occur until April-May most likely. The waves of status updates are for interviews that have just been reviewed, and I don't believe they pertain to those who have already received any information.

Yep, same week as you. Where I am there was a big snowstorm this morning so now I Am available to sit by my computer and compulsively check my status page. Great  I dont think they'll post for a couple hours so I am going to try to resist the urge.

As far as waitlist, check out last year's thread. People actually started hearing back starting in Feb! It seems like it was similar to this year with the vast majority of applicants being waitlisted but then a second round of acceptances very early. kinda like a non rolling school that is just a little bit rolling. But it still seems too early for that IMO.

haha. And I just checked. I suck at life . Not up yet. Gonna be a long day.

Yeah, I was just about to post that no news was out yet. Hopefully they don't wait until next week.

UPDATE: Status change: waitlist. Boo.

I need a hug.
I think I'm going through the 5 stages of grief.
Waitlist group hug guys?

o god, this pitt waitlist thing is soooo scary. I think I am in the next group or so.

Do status changes occur every Thursday when stuff isn't interrupted by holidays?

Sorry to all the waitlisted ppl. I'm pretty sure I'll be joining you in limbo-land soon.

🙁 Sorry about the waitlist

...on the bright side, though, in this case, maybe the 5th stage of grief will be a different type of acceptance 🙂

welcome to the waitlist, friends. it's not the happiest of places but not the worst.

good thing is they said they'll draw heavily from it this year, as they did last year

looking at last year's thread, a slew of post-waitlist acceptances came out in the begining of March. may happen again this year. good luck to all at any rate!

haha awesome.. yes, let us all move toward acceptance.

It is not the worst place to be, that's true. It seems that many, if the not the majority of waitisted students who really really wanted to go to Pitt got in in the end. Here's looking at you, Chuck. I'm not losing hope yet. And yes, let us pray for early waitlist movement. :xf:

Just found out today- waitlist as well. It's a lot better than a rejection, but still I'm a little bummed out. I really loved this school and the city is great..

For those of you who have heard already, when did you interview? I'm still waiting and I interviewed late Nov.

I interviewed 11/30 and haven't heard. I think some people just heard who interviewed in the middle of November, so they're getting around to us.

Indeed, my interview was 11/16 and I heard this Thursday.

Hi everyone,

I am currently confused between two schools: University of Pittsburgh and NYU.

Is anyone else applying to both schools and not sure which one to pick over the other (they're not my only schools but I'm working on eliminating some of my choices to make it easier when it comes to a final decision)? If yes, can you tell me which one you'd pick and why?

As for the others, I would appreciate it if I could receive some opinions, even if you're not considering both.

Thank you all and good luck!

To people who have been accepted: what are your stat ranges?/ how did your interviews go? annd is this your top choice?

To people who are WL: What are your stat ranges?/ how did your interviews go? and is this your top choice?

I am really curious as to what Pitt is looking for.

All I can say to this is that Whatever it is that Pitt is looking for it is definitely NOT just stats. Look through peoples MDapps to see that basically everyone who interviews has pretty amazing stats (except me lol) but that seems to not carry much weight in whether or not they accept you. My interviews went very well, but I have not come across anyone who said their interviews went poorly at Pitt. It's just the style that doesn't really lend itself to bad interviews. IT's blind luck I tell you, Blind luck! ( Not to discredit those that were accepted, just to say that they waitlist tons and tons of super applicants)

Totally true. It's not totally blind luck, but it is definitely outside of the stats + interview performance realm.

I felt my faculty interview was kind of...awkward. Someone on my date said that they had a weird interviewer as well, as they mentioned their parents profession and the interviewer just started discussing how much they personally dislike that profession.

Not saying this is the norm at all, just sharing an experience that is not "it went fine/well".

Note: I was a WL, 3.95 cum, 4.0 sci, 35Q MCAT.

i know pitt is amazing and everything. But if you had to pick just one thing about pitt (besides the great student atmosphere) what would it be? I was surfing their web and this question came to mind.

This is interesting... I can imagine that as being uncomfortable 🙄 Well, I'll speak for myself and Bender, who also said his interviews went really well and say that a good interview is not the most important thing. A lot of doctor's are awkward IMHO at least, so I'm sure there are lots more out there with interviews that were just so so. That being said, unless you get someone who's really kooky for the most part it's just a very straightforward interview and closed file so they're not grilling you about the C in orgo that you got. Or I should say that I got....cause you guys all seem to have 4.0s in science

I got WL'd with a 35Q, 3.9+ GPA as well. I thought it was my best interview. I feel very optimistic about Pitt though, considering so many spots will be filled by waitlisters, as opposed to my other waitlist, Vanderbilt. That list never moves.

3.7 and 39, with what I felt was a great interview, especially the student one.

Have to say though, I'm really not digging this whole waitlist almost everyone then fill the class from the waitlist strategy though. While I loved Pitt its hard to imagine giving up another acceptance mid-summer after going through finding an apartment, moving in, etc.
