Yeah I heard they review them in random order.

But I had an interview with them recently, and it was quite low on stress level.
Didn't get drilled with questions, just chatted up with them about whatever came up.
I interviewed with a physician and an MD/Phd student. I felt quite comfortable during the interviews.

So sit tight, they'll get to you soon. For those of you heading up there soon, good luck and if you get a chance, explore the city/region. And do try garbage plates!
 
have they been sending out rejections? so you could theoretically get reviewed early but they put you on hold or rejection but you don't know yet?
 
I have my interview scheduled there for 10/8, and was about to work on my essays.

For the first prompt, "What interests do you hope to continue or develop as you pursue your medical education at Rochester?" my assumption is that they're referring to non-medical interests. Can anyone confirm this?

hey just wanted to know what the first yr curriculim was like. How are the exams scheduled? Are they spaced out or are they give at the same time? Also what are the maximum amount of units that run at the same time? Thanks.

It can be anything. For instance, we have an outdoor interest group here, so you can say you want to continue your love for hiking through that. Or, we have a latino health pathway here so you can say you want to continue your Spanish speaking through this.

Exams are about every 3 weeks and you have one at a time. Courses are integrated here, so you never really take just a biochem class or just an anatomy class and have like 5 classes at once. In first year, you have Mastering Medical Information which is biostats and epidemiology, Human Structure and Function which is anatomy/physio/embryo/histology, Molecules to Cells which is genetics/biochem, and Host Defense which is micro/immuno. You also have a clinical course that runs at the same time (hence our double helix curriculum).

submitted the secondary 9/1, got the complete email 9/3, and they emailed me the interview invite just now.

35R/3.7 if you're interested.
 
Interview invite!! So HAPPY! Love Love this school! Went here for undergrad. The facilities are awesome, love the double helix cirriculum. Dream School!😀

Well, my letters were slow so I didn't get complete until 8/11, but yep, still chillin'. I'm just going with the 'random reviewing order' theory, though.
 
Had my interview at Rochester. Very nice school with excellent educational and clinical facilities. The students are especially enthusiastic about the school, which I took to be a good sign.

The interviews were mostly very laid back. One interview was extremely conversational, relaxed and comfortable. The second interview was a little more formal, and had fewer questions-as-a-springboard-for-conversation. I'm less comfortable with that interview style, so I felt less comfortable with that interview.

There's a bit more downtime at this school's interview day than other's I've been at, but there is easy computer access for checking email, etc. There are also sometimes classes you can sit in on, which is nice.

On the whole, a good experience!
 
Hey!

To anybody who has already had an interview, how long are the interviews? Are they 30min each or an hour each? also are the interviews conducted by student and faculty or is it strictly faculty?

It depends on the interviewer.. I think they give you half hour to hour time.
I had a faculty interview for 45 min, and student interview (3rd yr md/phd) for about an hour.

i haven't. i interviewed 9/11... pretty anxious to hear back from this school!
 
I am interviewing here 12/11. planning to get to Rochester Intl' Airport 7:40am; the day begins at 8:15 the drive is ~5 min no big issue; and I could get a leeway of 30 mins from addmissions office;

My concern is flight delays. For those familiar w/ rochester whether and flight schedules, are the delays pretty bad during that time of year? Just so I could give my self a larger window.

Upstate NY is known for snow storms. December is when it begins to snow. Your best bet would be flying in the night before and getting a student host.

Do you have a connection flight to get to Rochester? Usually the connector flights are the ones that are delayed. I flew out of Rochester for winter break last year and we had a huge snow storm... my flight was delayed about an hour because the plane was coming from somewhere else that had gotten delayed. That being said, you can't predict the weather, so I'd try to come in the night before if you can. Plus, even if you do get on time, it seems like you'd be rushing A LOT.

You are correct. We did just get some snow last night in upstate NY.....but the REAL snow usually begins in December.....minus the crazy October storms and snow white Thanksgiving days.

I think the general consensus is that you should fly in the night before. Rochester is an awesome school and you don't want to mess it up. Good luck 😉.

It "starts" to snow in October/November... but nothing big usually.

It starts to pick up in December in terms of amount on the ground but honestly, I think the beginning of December will be okay. We seem to usually get slammed in January and February... not so much in December but there is definitely snow. You might get lucky though as it is usually not too severe in early Dec. but thats just from my experience of living here for 21 years. Weather is unpredictable, obviously.

SWEET! I'm in! I interviewed on 9/3 for those wondering. Found out via email... not sure if they tried calling me since I was on a plane but I am beyond excited.

Curious.. did anyone who interviewed 9/14 or later receive any news today?

The first batch of pre-int rejection went out around the same time of the fist batch of acceptances last year. I don't know whether it is also true this year.
