does anyone know anything about the extent of financial aid they offer? do they offer any scholarships based on merit/fin hardships?

Yes. I think the financial aid guy said it was about $11,000 a year for need based scholarships. As for normal merit-based, it seems like they are few and far between as far as the school-associated ones go.

I have an interview on March 23, so I will drive to UVM on March 22 from Philadelphia returning on March 23 or 24. Does anyone want to join?

make that three!

good luck everyone still in the running!

Make it 4.

It said the interview season has come to a close, so it looks like thats it for everyone! oh joy. It never stops stinging.

For those that interviewed on the 11th (goodluck btw), I just want to make sure I have this right.

We will be reviewed on April 1
Most OOS will be waitlisted

When can we expect to hear from them about their decision?

I called and was told that our decisions should be up online a week after the adcom meeting, so by April 7thish

strange...my interview was on march 4th and I swear the lady told us we'd hear a decision ON April 1st (it was funny b/c everyone laughed since it's April Fools). I'm wondering if that was wrong and that I'd actually hear on the 7th as some of you had said.

NVM. Just called them today.. They meet on the first and decisions go out the following few days.

Hi everyone, congratulations to those who got interviews and acceptances. Any people think they will attend UVM? And is there an established post yet for us future Catamounts? Can't wait to get out on the East Coast.

Thursday the 25th (in two days)is the last day...I know cuz I will be there...can anyone tell me how the weather is around Burlington right now...I know it says it is raining but I am wondering as I will start driving tomorrow from Virginia. Thanks!

Withdrew my application today. Hope one of you gets it.

Good luck everyone.

Theres a facebook group up

anyone going to second look?

anyone gotten fin aid packages yet?

second look? maybe

financial aid package? negative

what type of housing are you thinking about btw?

Did most of you send in numerous update or letter of interests post interview? If so, how frequently did you send them. Since almost everybody that gets an acceptance is wait listed at first, just wondering if such letters give you that boost.

Either a local house or centennial court apts. im most likely going to second look, im waiting on that fin aid package though

Hey, has anyone been accepted in March from the waiting list?

I wonder if there's been any movement.😴

I interviewed a few weeks back. Loved the school, loved FAHC, loved Burlington, loved the admissions staff. And Church Street was pretty cool, too!

Without a doubt, UVM is where I want to be. It was weird, I felt completely at HOME at UVM COM. Hopefully a good omen.

Crossing my fingers!

The closer look day is May 7th, but you have to RSVP sometime in April. On another note I was accepted into the class of 2014 a couple months ago and am trying to find others looking for housing in the fall. I live in Burlington and have been contacting some places, but I am wondering if anyone else is looking for places for next year.

Good Luck to all still waiting to hear back....

hey, does anyone know how big the waitlist is/how many people usually get pulled off. are the odds good?

At my interview March 25th, I got the impression that a student's interest in the program can make the difference in terms of receiving an interview invite as well as an acceptance. All of the other applicants I asked had contacted the admissions office prior to receiving their interview offer. The M4 that came to talk to us during lunch said he had to send in five letters post-interview before he was given an acceptance. He made reference to other students needing to express similar interest to gain admission. It seems like more than any other school Vermont is not only receptive to letters of interest but gives preference to those applicants that write them. Good idea on the school's part as they'll end up with students that want to be there and are willing to pay the enormous OOS tuition fees ($70,000 COA).

I plan to withdraw soon.

Do you guys remember when they said the committee is meeting this week?

When I emailed the admissions office, they said March 30th and April 1st.

So they should be getting back to you a week to two weeks after next.

Good luck to everyone waiting! 🙂

Theres a facebook group up - joined it already 🙂

anyone going to second look? nope, I know I am going to UVM already.

anyone gotten fin aid packages yet? nope, even though they say in their timeline that it will be March, mine hasn't come yet

Thanks. Geez, 5 letters seems a little excessive. I was thinking it may make you look desperate but its good that they actually look into those letters unlike some other schools.
You're planning to withdraw before you hear back from them?

No, I'm planning to withdraw post-decision. I'm curious to hear the committee decision.

Yeah, even though the M4 had to write 5 letters of interest to gain admission to UVM, he just matched into pediatrics at Philadelphia Children's Hospital. So he matched into one of the best residency programs in the country for pediatrics. Whatever it takes to win them over.

Does anyone know how often UVM lets people off the waitlist? When they meet to discuss the rest of the applicants who have interviewed pver the last few weeks (which, from previous posts, sounds like will be on March 30/April 1) do they also discuss students' files who have been waitlisted and send out any offers/rejections to that pool of applicants as well???

I am very torn simply due to the fact the OOS tuition is hugeeeee... but there is so many things I loved about UVM and would want to attend for... that match list was pretty impressive to say the least

Agree, oos tuition is really high. What other options are you looking at?

an in-state school. I wouldn't go anywhere else OOS except for UVM, loved it there. I'm still planning on attending but the financial aid package is really going to make or break my decision.

I really did love this school...it's just too bad it would be OOS for me. I'm waiting for the decision from my in-state (although private) school. Even though it's private, it would still be a few thousand dollars cheaper to attend than being OOS at UVM... I wrote a letter of intent for the in-stater...really debating hard about whether or not to send it, especially after reading this thread every so often. I guess I should worry after I actually hear news, lol.

No, I'm planning to withdraw post-decision. I'm curious to hear the committee decision.

If you are certain you won't be attending, why not give the space up for one of us waitlisted folk who are certain we would?

...Although, I can't blame you if you want to have the satisfaction of being able to turn down a school after being accepted. 😳

Seriously? If you don't want to attend then withdraw you application. The members of the admissions committee take their job very seriously and I can't believe you would admit to wasting their time for the sake of your ego.

Haha. I like to look at it from the applicant's perspective. I put the time and effort and a great deal of money into my application to have Vermont review my file and make a decision on my application. I intend to get my money's worth. I also feel that I owe it to them to hear them out and keep an open mind about their decision. Perhaps it'll change after hearing from them.

I'll most likely be waitlisted like the majority of the other OOS applicants and when and if that happens, I will withdraw. The rest of you will have to be patient and persevere - like most applicants with their top choice schools.

I think that your waiting to hear the decision before withdrawing is perfectly reasonable, even if you do not think you would go to UVM (at this point, at least). We all worked hard on our applications and keeping your application active until a decision is made post-interview is smart. Obviously this is a stressful process for everyone, but we all need to have faith in the process and trust that if we belong at UVM them UVM will find us and offer us an opportunity to matriculate come August. UVM is my top choice and I am OOS waitlisted, and have been since December, but I don't have any resentment or ill feelings towards Golf Shoes and I don't think anyone else should either. Every one of us deserves to at least find out where we stand with a specific school, because applying/interviewing is not only a financial expenditure, but it is also one of time, energy, and effort and the least we deserve is to know whether or not those expenditures paid off. So good luck to you Golf Shoes, and everyone else who is waiting. I hope that everyone gets in where they will be ultimately be very happy.
