I'm pretty sure OOR and Washington residents are on the same list. Good luck! I imagine they're going to go deep on the alternate list this year 👍

Thank you Foofoo and Crywin for the financial aid info. The 52K tuition for OOR students during the first year is pretty scary but we'll see what happens. Luckily, I could become a WA resident after a year.

Right now, I'm deciding between the school that's closest to home (Emory) and UW which is that farthest from home; except maybe Hawai'i haha. I'm still on a couple of other wait lists which I'd love to get off of but I don't have my hopes up too high.

BTW everybody, May 15th is right around the corner!

For the sake of us on the waiting list, feel free to choose another school. Emory is a great school and I would personally love to see the waiting list go HIGH this year. All kidding aside, congratulations on your acceptance.

There's no one reason why they accept somebody. I didn't have stellar stats; solid but not stellar. I think what caught their attention was my passion to serve Latino and immigrant populations. This interest is evident throughout my application. I personally think my LORs were really key for me. Don't underestimate the power of some awesome LORs!

You'll pretty much know if you have a shot at UW as an OOR applicant based on whether or not you get a secondary application. I hope this helps.

Well, if it helps, I have NOT been accepted off the ranked waitlist and my site selection tab is still there.

I wouldnt be worried if you are number 17, you'll almost certainly be in by Monday at the latest

I was #1 on the waitlist and I was called by Dr. Teitz the monday after we all got the waitlist email. It was kind of surreal and crazy. She asked me if I knew that I had already been accepted and of course I said no! She said that it must of just happened that morning, so she was rather quick with her phone call. But she IS the dean of admissions, so depending on who your excom member is they might not have that information as readily available or as soon as it happens...

but if you're #17 you'll definitely get in soon. if not within the next few days at least after the 15th, my prediction is that this years waitlist will make it to #43! I'm pulling for you Lieutenant Dan 🙂

I'm not sure how long it will take, apparently they have to mail you something first before you establish it. But you could call the financial aid office and see what they say about that. I think they may have addressed that issue in a previous email, I can't quite remember though...

Anybody know if the new national health care law has funds to defray students' med school costs? I've called both senators and my congressman about this 2,704 page bill, and nobody seems to have read it or know if it includes such funds.

Today, May 15, is decision day, so those choosing another school must drop from the UW acceptance list.

But, since May 15 falls on a Saturday, does that mean the real deadline is Monday May 17?😕

With a scholarship and grant at another school of equivalent stature, costs are nearly the same. But, UW may have freed up some grant money of its own as some previously accepted candidates go elsewhere. It would sure be nice to be able to make a final side by side comparison.

Bluetulip7, it sounds like you got accepted as the button disappearance seems to precede any other signs of acceptance, do you mind posting what number you are?

As for the rest of us, it may take a little while to hear back. Last year the 15th was on a Friday, and there appears to have been no movement until the following Monday the 18th, so it is possible it could take until Tuesday to see major movement.

I think this is the only UW forum...I don't think there are WWAMI specific forums, I think everyone is using this one.
