Congrats to all of those who have gotten in! I received my interview invitation and will be interviewing on the 19th of February. What types of questions did they ask you for those who have already interviewed?

anybody hear anything so far this week?

Hi Koko,

so only 10-15 people on the waitlist are picked? and this is even for OOS students? thats a very small number....:/

Just got invited to an interview, oos, complete sometime around mid Sep, it's been a loooong time. 🙄

Rejection via mail today:
IS
Stats on MDapps.
Application complete 7/12

I haven't been around too much lately but if anyone has questions about the school, feel free to PM me.

Good luck to today's interviewees and I'll be meeting some of you today!

No news but i got that same email about receiving acceptance. So happy they dont require a deposit for the spot 🙂

Congrats! Maybe there will be a little more movement now! I think there's only
4 more interview days!

Hey guys, join the facebook group if you've been accepted and will be matriculating. It'd be nice to get together sometime before the start of the semester to see what kind of a freak show we're in for.

the group is entitled "UW School of Medicine and Public Health - Class of 2014" 👍

Since I am on the Waitlist and most likely not be accepted, my girlfriend is looking for a female roommate to take my place for the year. She will be a second year Pharmacy student at UW so she will be busy, just like you. The apartment is a 10 minute walk to the HSLC (where the classes are). PM if you are interested and I will give you her email. Just a side note, I am on the waitlist so there is a small chance I will be attending. So if you are not sure that you will be here either next year, we can stay in contact over the next couple months until things are decided! Thanks 🙂

have an interview with madison 2/19 - seems really late, probably for waitlist unfortunately, but an interview nonetheless - anyone have an idea of how many people madison interviews? thanks in advance

I don't know why people always think that late interviews are for the waitlist. I honestly have not heard a single school that interviews specifically for the waitlist. In fact, the rolling schools that I applied to all said they allocate a certain number of acceptances per month so that chances are not diminished with later interviews (that being said, it is harder to get an interview when you apply late, but I don't think once you get an interview, the chance of getting in is smaller)

anyway, here are the 2008 stats:

Total admissions data 3264 applied, 455 interviewed, 270 were accepted, 163 enrolledIn-state admissions data 676 applied, 309 interviewed, 176 were accepted, 125 enrolledOut-of-state admissions data 2588 applied, 146 interviewed, 94 were accepted, 38 enrolledWomen's admissions data 1406 applied, 195 interviewed, 150 were accepted, 87 enrolledMinority admissions data 935 applied, 119 interviewed, 77 were accepted, 43 enrolledInternational admissions data 0 applied, 0 interviewed, 0 were accepted, 0 enrolled

good luck

Yeah, 2/19 isn't so late, relax. I don't interview until 3/5, and I don't think it's a big deal.

I'm not 100% sure but I think MCW does interviews for the waitlist

Based on the secondary thread, it sounds like they are already transitioning into interviews for the wait list.

yes they do interview for the WL but they tell you that also in the invite. Also beyond that very few schools do this. In general if you interview its for a spot, granted there are less spots so you will have to be a better applicant and very impressive, but nonetheless still a chance. Whether you interview in sept or march, if they love you and you wow them somehow at the interview. You will likely be in. I wouldnt worry too much.

Hi guys,

I have an interview early March and I am OOS. I was wondering if you guys knew whether the OOS people can qualify for IS tuition after the first year. I know some state schools don't let you do that. I didn't want to ask the financial aid office yet because it seems a bit presumptious before I am even accepted.

thanks,

nope you are OOS for all 4 years. good thin is tuition for OOS is only about 34k or so. That is about as cheap as my IS schools actually. And cheaper when you factor in cost of living (im in cali);

Darn, that makes my decision harder even if I get in. But you are right that their OOS isn't bad, it's only 5k more than my IS school, but they don't seem to have any grants/free aid whereas a lot of private schools do, so the cost is gonna be similar here vs. a decent private school. umm, time to learn how to play poker

They do give out grants/free aid. I'm not sure it is on par with other schools but you could possibly luck out and get some money.

First, congrats to any newly accepted applicants! And good luck to all the students still on the waitlist!

As for aid, BubbaChuck3 is absolutely right, UW does give some scholarships/grants. Not everyone gets something but this type of aid mostly falls into two categories: need-based aid, and scholarships that come from generous donors (usually our wonderful alumni). If anyone wants some more specific info about the scholarships feel free to PM me.

i talked to a few students who were on basically 1/2 tuition scholarships. That is pretty good. They do have a lot more aid then most people think. Its not going to be on par with say harvard or hopkins but plenty of students get aid. Man i hope they throw some my way lol. I loved this school so much money may seal the deal!

I was lucky enough to get the full tuition scholarship. So like I said it is definitely out there.

Anyone looking for a roommate for next year? Looking for another male, PM me if interested. We would live in the Old University area right near the med school.

Just so you know, AFAIK the full tuition scholarships are generally for URM students. I would say a good 10% of the class or more has 15k scholarships though.

what if you are not a URM but applied disadvantaged as well as come from a very poor family (i.e on fafsa your EFC is 0 and you parents make <10k per year). Or does it not matter about economic status only if you are a URM?

I really really REALLY hope that I am admitted off of the alternate list. Attending UW is something that I have always wanted. I am praying and crossing my fingers every single day.

It's possible you'll get some need-based aid. My understanding was that the funding for full scholarships came through MSMC. I am not sure if that money is specifically for URMs and not for minorities in general though.

Me too stromijj...I know what you're going through. Keep hope alive!

uw said i was in the top 25% of those on the waitlist. did anyone else get this message in their letter?

I was waitlisted at UW and was given no indication of ranking in the waitlist letter.

uw said i was in the top 25% of those on the waitlist. did anyone else get this message in their letter?

Hmmm...I'm very sceptical of this post. Congrats if that is true, but a couple of things make me suspect a troll. First, I talked to the admissions office last week about the waitlist and they told me no waitlist has been made and none will be made until all interviews are done and all applicants who interviewed have been reviewed. Second, even when ranks are given out for the waitlist (which according to last year's thread and some current students I've talked to is around the middle to end of March), they give you a specific rank as in you are #5 on the IS waitlist, etc. As far as I know they never tell you a percentage, especially because they never tell students how big the waitlist is. In other words, they tell you that you are #5 but not out of how many. So saying someone is top 25% doesn't really mean anything...if the waitlist had 200 students on it you could be anywhere between 1 and 50 and be anywhere between definitely going to get accepted and definitely not going to get accepted. Not trying to be mean and say you're absolutely lying or anything, but these things really make me logically question that they gave anyone an indication of where they are on the waitlist.

:troll:

They would never put that in their letters. I've talked to the admissions office several times and they said there will be no official ranks until mid-April because the last of the interviews are mid-March and they need time to check out those applicants.
However, after my talks with the admissions post-interview about my application and the waitlist, they did tell me that I was a strong applicant and will not be in the bottom of the waitlist and she would expect my app to be in the "upper portion." This is extremely vague and I'm just taking it as a compliment and she mentioned if it didn't work out this year to make sure I reapply.
Sorry if this bursts any bubbles.
If you are on the alternate list I would recommend contacting the admissions office to discuss your application to see if there were weak points because the person I talked to was really friendly and helpful.

I've tried calling several times but no answer. Which number did you use? Was it the one given in the letter? Thanks

I used the number in the letter. I also had trouble getting someone to answer my call. You need to leave a voicemail with your name, number, and maybe AMCAS #. They will call you back in a day or two. From there I would get an email address for further contact and if you are not near Madison you can set up a time for a phone conversation about your application, waitlist process, etc.

Hope this helps🙂 and if that doesn't work PM me and I'll give you the email address I have, but IMO it would be better if you got a hold of them yourself.

hmm interview invite! but for a waitlist position...hmm
