Making me insane i just want a decision, for better or worse at this point🙂. After my final today im going straight to the mailbox better be some good news...since im going to fail this final lol

Yeah, the waiting is definitely killing me. It's been 5 weeks for UW, and I'm also waiting on decisions from multiple other schools. Is it just me or does it seem like everyone else is getting decisions quickly from the schools they interviewed at and you're the only one waiting and waiting and waiting? It seems like that to me, all the people I know that applied this year interviewed at other schools around the same time as I was doing interviews and they've had acceptances weeks ago while I've heard nada 🙁. Good luck on your final Elijah05! :luck: I have 3 coming up so I will soon share your pain.

No news in DC. Sorry team! I guess it's next week for us.

same here in wisconsin. but there is always mail on saturday to, so you never know.

congrats blue stell, no word here yet. you interviewed the week before nov 6th???

it seems odd that they just randomly grab 15-20 apps. what keeps your app from getting passed over and passed over? in theory it can happen and next thing you know its been over 8 weeks and you haven't heard anything. there must be some system in place to make sure they have reviewed your app atleast 6 weeks after your interview.
Well, I don't think they just grab random applications. They review them as they are completed. Second, they assess competitiveness at that time. An applicant will hear back sooner as his/her application is more competitive. If a person is not given an instant rejection, they are reviewed again within some sort of time period, say December or January. This is why they put a time limit on applications being sent in, so they know the entire pool at some time.

Just be patient! I am guessing there is some part of your application that they might see as slightly weaker than other applicants, but you must be a strong applicant because of not getting a rejection. The applications chosen for review I do not believe are random, though. Hang in there and be a stud at your interview!

Yup, Oct 30th so it took me 5 weeks and 1 day to get my decision in the mail. Thanks guys, I really couldn't have asked for anything better. Good luck to all of you still waiting! :luck: I'm really excited to know if any of you will be my future classmates!

oh man grats thats great news. You going here for sure? Or still waiting on some others. That should hopefully mean that us in 11/6 should be hearing next week!!!! At least i hope so.

Rjc I already interviewed on nov sixth. Waiting for reply about acceptance. Hopefully next week like Elijah said cuz we interviewed the same day. But I think my interview went well.

Hey, what is the format of the group interview? I have never had that before.

When you're logged in, there's a search function at the top of each thread.

Regardless, after some icebreaker introductory questions, my session became a Q&A for applicants to find out more about the school/student life. The med students were more interested in answering my group's questions and eating their lunch more than anything.

Thank you 🙂 While I am waiting on some other schools to get back to me, UW is my #1 choice so I will 100% be matriculating here. I'm definitely crossing my fingers that you guys here back next week :xf: I'm really rooting for you guys!!!

thank you blue steel. that is very kind of you. here's to next week :xf:

What is the closest hotel to the interview location? Thank you for your help!

homenow, i believe it is a best western that is about 2 blocks away from the med school. it is on university avenue, and another street (sorry forgot its name), but the number might be around 2500 because my girlfriend lives down the road from there and she is in the 2500 block. might need to mapquest it or google but its there, i've seen it numerous times and plus it is like a ten minute walk away, so no paying for parking. good luck

speaking of hotels, aside from closest, any recommendations?

Alternate listed...🙁
I guess it's better than a rejection but I reeeeeeeally want to go here. They are by far my number 1 choice and the interview definitely did nothing but confirm that.
Before people ask,
I actually got the letter around 11/18 but forgot to post it on here
I interviewed 10/30/09. Stats are 33/4.0, IS

Better luck to everyone else and I hope hope hope hope they reconsider me later... Until then, it's back to waiting :corny:

Happy to hear you got in Blue Steel! Your interview was worth the coffee spilling incident lol. Congrats!

OOOaF, i'm a little shocked by ur waitlist. you have good stats, and most of your activities are the same as mine (depending on length). makes me a little more nervous about getting accepted.

same, and i have a much lower gpa and mcat lol. Ah well heres to hoping 🙂. Do these guys even do post interview rejections? Or are they like most schools where near no one is rejected and everyone is waitlisted.

For those accepted.. what are your thoughts about setting up a facebook group for those most likely going to UW? I saw people doing that at other schools; might be a good idea to get to know each other ahead of time.

That sucks that you got alternate-listed, I'm really surprised. I really thought you would get accepted right away. But you're right, it's way better than a rejection and they do pull from the waitlist once the interview season ends. The nice thing is that they have a separate IS and OOS list and that they rank you and tell you your number. So if you are ranked #5 you pretty much know you'll get in. I wish you the best of luck getting accepted to UW later in the cycle! Don't lose hope!

Thank you 🙂 Haha yeah definitely worth the spilled coffee 😀 I'll take a coffee incident and a UW acceptance any day.

There already is a facebook page, I think it's named "University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Class of 2014". Wow, that's long 😛

I haven't heard back, but one of my current classmates who is OOS was rejected post-interview (had his two weeks before us and got his letter before Thanksgiving).

Thanks, BTW! Hopefully this means good news for your waitlists too if UW doesn't come through 🙂

How/when can you know what number you are on the alternate list??

How/when can you know what number you are on the alternate list??

At my interview they said that u won't know until after all interviews are done. Once that occurs they will rank the remaining applicants. I was Told on average that about 15 people or so are taken off the list each year

+1 rooting for OOOaf to be pulled off the alternative list to a BIG FAT packet.:xf:

I spilled coffee all over myself at my recent interview, I hope it is a trend Bluesteel! Haha congratulations by the way.

otts27:
I believe I heard on my interview day they send out ranks in April, once everyone has been interviewed.

Does anyone know what the faculty interviewee has access to? Do they have our GPA/MCAT? Also do they have our secondary application essay?

They have access to all your essays (primary and secondary), your ECs, and general biographic info about you (name, age, home town, etc.). They do not have any of your stats (course grades, GPA, MCAT). Hope that helps!

Thank you! I had coffee spilled on me by another interviewee, I think we should make it a rule DrBOshkosh26 that coffee spilled on you (by yourself or others)=automatic acceptance 😀

I wouldn't tell you! I'd let you sweat it out.

the blizzard has taken over and the entire UW campus has been shut down. while i'm super stoked that i don't have to go to class today, i wonder if it will delay everyone's decision .... this friday will be my 4th week.

ps. i wish i would have dumped the entire coffee pot on myself.

hey guys whats the best way to get from uw to the airport?

taxi? Unless your student host would pick you up not sure what else you could do unless you rent a car. Taxi was like 30 bucks.

gotcha. guess that's how i'll have to roll. thanks.

hey guys whats the best way to get from uw to the airport?

Badger's Cab is the cheapest taxi for about $20, tips included. Or the bus for <$4, but you have to take two routes, 2 and 20, and give yourself an hour (vs. ~20' cab) for the trip.

hey guys whats the best way to get from uw to the airport?

you can also take the bus for like 2 dollars or so. it picks you up right in front of the UW hospital. but then you have to change buses 1 time at the transfer center, which will then take you directly to the airport. so it would save a lot of money. and it doesn't take that long either.

Are interviews still being conducted this week due to the blizzard? I sure hope so!

UW-Madison students, faculty and staff,

The UW-Madison campus will reopen for classes and normal business,
Thursday, Dec. 10. Employees are asked to report for normal work duty.

All are urged to use caution when traveling to and from campus. Campus
roads, sidewalks and parking lots are largely passable, though there are
slick spots, along with piled snow.

Campus services are expected to reopen Thursday, however, it is possible
some events may continue to be impacted.

Be advised, falling temperatures and blowing snow are expected. In all
cases use common sense and think of safety first. If you are on foot, be
sure to dress appropriately. If driving, carry a survival kit.

For additional information and continuing updates about human resources
policies, transit, safety and campus operations and academic impact, visit
<http://www.wisc.edu>.

THat is from the chancellor. I would assume your interview is still on considering there is class and work today and your interview will be tomorrow. Good luck!

Hey everyone! For all who were accepted/want to attend UW-Madison Med School, there is a facebook group for us!! I know it was mentioned a few weeks back on here, but I'll continue to post a few reminders here and there so new people know. It's called "UW-Madison School of Medicine and Public Health Class of 2014"...GOOD LUCK to everyone!!!

As an aside about the snow day...

I'm an undergrad here and as soon as the snow day was called, the campus erupted. After bar close my roommates and I saw a huge snowball being formed on Gilman, so we decided to help push it onto University Ave. Here is a link to a CNN iReport on the whole incident. There was also a few thousand person snowball fight on Bascom hill the next day.

For all of you who aren't familiar with Madison, it is quite the crazy college town.

Gotta love snow days 😉

A group of us were studying at the HSLC and decided the snowball fight was mandatory. Search Facebook for "Bascom Hill Snowball Fight" to see lots of pics and video.

And I believe the Ad Com did meet this week, but I am sure decisions will be going out a day later than usual. Only people in the building Wednesday were students 😀

Good luck all!
