Regardless im likely going to withdraw after seeing the fin aid from here between now and the may15th deadline. Im OOS so GL to you guys waiting on that list. This school is awesome but i dont want to be 220k in debt to move to WI.

yeah my financial aid is also a little brutal... but i havent gotten too good of packages anyway.

Just got my finaid package too...all loans tho. do u guys know if there's separate application for need-based institutional scholarships or if this is pretty much the "finalized" package??? =(

Nope that's the final. Need based has no seperate app.

How did you guys know if your fin aid had been awarded/how do you view it? I tried OASIS and my student center through the myuw portal and it doesn't show anything so I'm assuming that means mine isn't there yet, but I submitted everything the beginning of Feb so I'm a little confused.

Also, I'm so sorry to hear about some of you that didn't get as high on the wait lists as you were hoping and I wish you guys the best. Perhaps you'll still get lucky, but even if you don't I hope you get in to other schools or reapply next year 👍

Bluesteel, go to Oasis. Click on accepted student link. Then click on the financial aid button. You will need your student id number if you don't have a netid. The financial aid awards are on a separate account, not on Oasis. It is a separate website. Hope that helps.

Hope that works.

Thanks so much for trying to help 🙂 OK, so I found the link but since I already have a netID it just takes me to myuw, which I already checked and it doesn't show anything. Dang, I was really hoping to see mine. Oh well..maybe tomorrow?

Instead of using your netid, use your student id number and create a password. There is a special link for people that don't have a netid under the oasis financial aid tab. try using that. Then click on financial aid.

I've looked everywhere on OASIS with no luck. I also don't have any financial aid listed on myuw. I don't think that everyone has gotten their packet yet...

They roll out financial aid packages as they get them completed- the first round came out yesterday I believe. There are some scholarships for first years, but not many. Although the cost of attendance for UWSMPH is not outrageous, and the cost of living in Madison is easy to handle, so I would still think UW is competitive with other schools.

There are more scholarships available to M2s, 3s, and 4s; which are based on a variety of criteria, and there is additional scholarship information which is sent out to us on a regular basis.

Amy Schrader most likely spoke to you on your interview day. Email (easiest) or call her if you can't access your info and she can direct you from there. I don't have her email in front of me, but if you go to www.wisc.edu and search for her under 'people' on the right hand side, her # and email will come up.

Good luck with all of the decisions coming up for you!

Hi all - I was accepted a while back and have been keeping up with this thread for a bit now...thought I should finally say hello.

So hello!

Wanted to bump this thread.

So going off what drizz said, it sounds like they "over accept" people? Meaning they want a OOS class size of 23, but accept upwards of 40. So in order to get off the OOS WL you have to wait for about 17 or so accepted students to withdraw?

It's not exactly that cut and dried that you need OOS people specifically to withdraw, but people in general. UW likes to keep the numbers of accepted students close to the final number, because we can't accomodate more students than 168 or whatever it is now. We really can't, the lecture and small groups are getting pretty full, it's sometimes hard to get a seat in the small group rooms when there's things the whole class has to be there for. That means when someone withdraws, the admissions people will give one of the people who is #1 on one of the waitlists an acceptance. I think there is a limit on the number of OOS students that we can possibly have in the class (it's in the 30s) so they probably want to get below that before they accept any more OOS though. I think we're mandated by the state that we have to have 80% IS but I could be wrong about the exact number.

Thanks for clarifying. I think you also mentioned that last year was an anomaly because so few people were accepted off the waitlist. Do you have any idea of how many OOSers were accepted off the 07/08 and previous cycles?

I don't really know to be honest how many people came off the waitlist in my cycle, it's not exactly something we talk about at school, but I think they did have an class of 2012 thread that talked about it a little bit. I think there was quite a bit more waitlist movement. In most years about 20-30 people come off both waitlists combined.

Is the med school itself known to be on the party side? That sounds pretty cool.

oh i was talking about the undergrad, no idea about the med but being that its connected the opportunity has to be there id assume? honestly it was pretty poor judgement and kinda dumb to do that there, but i dont see how that would affect the med school really.

this might be a dumb question, but does anyone know of the appropriate manner of withdrawing my spot? some schools simplify it down to a click of a button, but it looks like i might have to send an email to dean wall. any insight?

That's sounds like the right thing to do. I won't be withdrawing myself, so I don't know from personal experience but Dean Wall is very nice and I'm sure she will take care of it for you. Too bad you're not coming, but I know people on the waitlist will be very grateful for your spot, and I wish you the best of luck with whatever school you matriculate at. By the way, since I'm sure the waitlisters will be wondering, IS or OOS?

So anyone care to comment on strippergate? What's going to happen to the students who were involved? I can imagine that the school and the alumni are not pleased.

This is a pretty good example of how things can be blown out of proportion. No one knows whats going on with the investigation but people are pretty upset by a couple people showing bad judgment reflecting poorly on the rest of the school. My feeling is that it'll blow over and be a non-issue in a couple weeks but we'll see I guess.

Are there any accepted OOSers here who are likely to withdraw?

Hey guys, congrats to all of the acceptances and good luck to the wait-listers. I was wondering if any of you applied for WARM or have any information on that. I'll be applying in June for WARM. Thanks guys.
Hey there! I have seen a few posts regarding the WARM program. If anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know. I am an incoming WARM student in the class of 2014. Although I have not started, I do know quite a bit about the program. If there's anything I can't answer, I'll try to find out from another source. Good luck applying, and keep me posted if you need anything in the process!

Hey guys,
Does anybody know how many people have been accepted off the IS waitlist so far? I was ranked number 5 so I am trying to get a feel for where I stand.
Thanks!

How many out there are still waiting on their aid package? I got my info in fairly early so I'm starting to wonder if I've overlooked something..

I haven't heard of anyone being accepted off the waitlist yet. I was under the impression that they will make all waitlist offers after the May 15th deadline, but I could be wrong. According to last years thread, those in the top 10 or so heard from UW around May 22nd.

I am also anxiously awaiting news on waitlist movement because I think I have a pretty good spot on the waitlist but who knows, every year is different :scared: You are a few spots above me, so definitely post if you hear anything!

Yeah, I'm still waiting too. I actually called the aid office last week because I also got everything in way early and other students that got their stuff in after me had already received their aid packages. They said that they are posting aid packages as they go through them, but everyone should receive theirs by the end of next week. If for some reason we haven't received one by then, to call the aid office on Mon the 10th to ask what's going on. They also hinted that even though I turned my forms in really early, it's taking longer to process mine because I'm IS and low-income so I'm eligible for more aid. We'll see if that holds true when I actually get my aid, but they basically indicated that it's much easier/faster to process aid applications when all people are eligible for are loans.

Thanks Blue Steel, this was very helpful. I will wait patiently then..

Just withdrew my spot officially. Good luck to #1 or whoever on the OOS WL 🙂. I was accepted in dec and obviously am OOS. Loved UW madision a ton but their fin aid package makes it cost a bit more then my state school...so no real reason to leave. Good luck all🙂

About to send my official withdrawal to Dean Wall too. Wisconsin surprisingly blew me away and I've been wrestling with this non-stop for the past few months. But in the end, UIC (state school and home actually) fits better with my goals to eventually practice in an urban setting. So I guess congrats to #2 OOS WL!

Good luck everyone!

The waitlist letters mentioned calling after May 20th to find out your status. Do they update the list post-May 15th after people have withdrawn their acceptances and, perhaps, waitlist spots?

Yeah, as people drop you will start seeing your number move up towards the top of the list. Then if you're finally number 1 and someone drops you get a wonderful notice of acceptance. Good luck all you waitlisters! And good luck at your state school Elijah, boo that you're not coming this fall but I wish you the best of luck 😀

how many in-staters were accepted to UW-Madison and Medical College of Wisconsin and have decided to attend UW??

I think it's a lot. At least 30-40 people from my class got into MCW too. It's hard to pass up the combination of cheaper tuition, better reputation, and much nicer facilities.

Hi guys...
Im top 5 OOS waitlist.... UW is my first choice...
Would really appreciate if people who deny their acceptances could post a quick thread saying so....
Thanks

thanks dude! UW mad is so sweet i really loved it so much. It was hard to turn it down but my state school is going to save me about 70k per year as well as not having to move my family across the country. Just couldnt pass that up. Kinda wish i was single because id have probably gone to uw mad no matter what lol. Loved it that much.

I'm OOS and withdrew my acceptance a few weeks ago. Good luck!

hello future classmates!!! 🙂 and to those waiting good luck guys:xf::xf:

So far, we have 3 OOS people who were accepted withdraw?

Can we use the SDN rule of 1/3 and assume 9 people around the country withdrew? lol

That'd be nice. Theoretically, that would bump me up to the top of the oos list!

Hey. How likely do you think it is that say out of these 9 people, they have to dip into the waitlist for At least a few people?

Check out the admissions website, it seems like a lot of people will have to withdraw to get to the OOS waitlist. For the class of 2009, they accepted 104 OOS and 36 matriculated. Based on the threads, looks like they only pulled 2 off the OOS waitlist last year.

Meanwhile...hoping for some in-state waitlist movement myself!

True true.... But considering the consequences of more people avcepting their offers vs. The number of available spots open, they probably make sure they don't accept too many people and would rather take more people from the waitlist. I hope to see more movement in both lists...

I know people that have been offered waitlist spots and aren't taking them, so I think things are starting to move a bit.
